Rodman was a three-time NAIA All-American in college who averaged 25.7 points and 15.7 rebounds per game before going on to star in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.

Rodman was a College scoring machine and was a pretty solid scorer in Detroit. He just sacrificed almost every bit of that in Chicago for the betterment of the team.

Exactly! I'm from Chicago and watched it all! When they got Rodman I had no idea how it was going to work. Then I watched him grab 22 boards one night and play lock down defense. I was sold! Rodman a Chicago legend now! Also he could score, but they didn't need that, he sacrificed for the team!

Saw an interview where they talked about warm ups, Rodman would just watch people shoot, just standing there. Someone asked him what are you doing, he said counting the rotations of the ball. He did that so he would know where the ball would go. Brilliant and crazy all wrapped in one.

Rodman was not only a great rebounder, he could defend every position. He tried to do whatever the coach asked him to do at a high level. Every now and then, the team needed him to score more, and he would always produce.

No he couldn't he wasn't a good scorer. Don’t get me wrong a bad nba scorer can average 12 atleast pretty easy if given touches. But he wasn’t a “good” scorer That's why he just rebounded instead of being a high scorer and rebounding. If he could efficently drop 20 and 15 he'd do it every game but he just didn't have that ability

Great defense, semi decent passing, tough picks, and mentally (with addition of some dirty tricks here and there) breaking down opponents helped too. And if I am not mistaking he was averaging 20+ last season of college. He wasn't one dimensional rebound hound by any means... Oh yeah, Dennis could run on a wing of a fast break with the best of them.

@@basketballerlover5272 Can't argue with that statement. NBA is on a different level. However, as I see some other people mentioned, Rodman could probably score more. He just chose a different role for himself. I recall him scoring 3 3s in a to row in one game just because he was feeling himself (maybe Steve Kerr's spirit left Steve and possessed Rodman for a couple of minutes? 😀). Dennis was a very unique player.

Rodman was so much more than just a rebounder I can not believe he didn't mention his defense and not just being a good defender but a lockdown defender he had the ability to take superstar players out of the game on top of grabbing 20 + rebounds a game. The man was a master of his craft.

He left to go to san antonio first though? Seriously nobody talks about his two years there. Everyone assumes he went straight to chicago. He always had a career resurgence in chicago because his last few years in detroit and in San Antonio he wasn’t nearly as productive. He helped on boards but defensively and offensively he wasn’t performing at his peak. That phil jackson system rejuvenated him
