Crossfire - Ableton Live Control Surface Script for the AKAI FIRE

Күн бұрынIn this full walkthrough for CrossFire, an Ableton Live Control Surface Script for the AKAI FIRE MIDI Controller, we'll take you through the installation and use of each of the modes that are configured for this little workhorse of a controller.
Grid Modes include:
- Step Sequencer
- Note Mode
- Drum Mode
- Performance Mode (Clip Launching & Track Control)
Included is the "Lock to Track" functionality that people have been requesting for the Ableton Push 2 for a while.
Whilst the controller was obviously designed for integrating closely with Fruity Loops or FL Studio, nativeKONTROL have absolutely maximised this very effective controller when used with Ableton Live.

This is an amazing script! I bought it back in 2020 for a different purpose, but now that I am using ableton as it should... man this script is a game-changer for the controller that I had initially shelved. Works with Ableton 11 too! (I've got the suite + M4L version)

Great Walkthrough! I honestly would have over looked this whole product bc of how it was advertised. This could really boost a workflow. Especially when you compare the price tag of an Ableton push to this

just bought the akai crossfire. i do hesitate at first, but turns out I love this more than a launchpad. still wishing that the playing clips shows its corresponding color only with a higher brightness (as it does in FL Studio), instead of showing green regardless of its track/clip color.

Crossfire is awesome. Bought last night. $100 controller without FL Studio... RGB colors, OLED screen... very, very nice. Thanks Isotonik, and Stray from NK! Only suggestion I might have... any way to change the scales by semitone and also keep the root/scale note format? It gets confusing when changing semitone as the colors don't seem to reflect the new (changed) root notes... if you guys could tweak that in a future update, that would be much appreciated!

Phrygian is pronounced "*fri*·jee·uhn" (ˈfrɪdʒɪən) named for the region Phrygia of Anatolia (now western Turkey) -it's the place where King Midas ruled. And if you play just white keys on a keyboard and start on E instead of C, you get a phrygian scale which can be useful to get traditional Spanish sounding melodies and chord progressions :)

Is the browser always looking in the Drum Rack folder? Can I use the browser in the other instruments presets folder? I am not been able to do so

I just got the script and it is great! My question is how can I maximize a plugin when I select the track using the fire? When I select the track, I only see the minimized version of the plugin, in this case fabfilter

Thats not possible via Lives API, it's a highly requested feature so we hope one day they'll update Live to make this possible....

1. Yes with the exception of the Step and Performance Modes, which are strictly for use in Session View. 2. Yes, in Step Mode, you can shift the timing of Steps.

@@IsotonikStudios The lack of step mode for arrange is a shame tbh, was really hoping for a controller/script that would let me edit clips in Arrangement view, as Push is pretty much useless in that regard.

looks much better than Push 2. I had one, didn't really vibe with it. Just having the 16 steps/buttons in one row works much better for me, maybe because that's how it's displayed in ableton

glossywheel I think we’ve packed as much as we can for it into the script, it’s exposed to MaxforLive though if you feel inclined to write a sequencer, we have a Euclidean one coming soon....

Isotonik Studios I am super interested, does it also have swing capabilities in the sequencer? I was looking to this as an alternative to the beatstep pro. I’m basically trying to achieve making ableton as a drum/sample machine while I play with hardware synced up, and of course record all the drum sequences. Could this help me achieve that?

Global Mode controls global parameters. Unlike other Encoder Modes that have their own LED indicator, when Global Mode is selected, all four LEDs above MODE will be lit. The ENCODERS control Tempo, Global Quantization, Record Quantization and Swing Amount respectively.

i finally got crossfire script. But I was a bit disappointed about the encoders. I want to freely map all encoder modes to any live parameter. Encoder modes should be "encoder banks", is it possible? sorry for my English

No MIDI mapping the encoders is not possible, you have the user modes that are more powerful as they give dynamic mapping capabilities.

Very much worth the money, but it would be awesome to have more than 22 colors. The 64 LED pads are by far the coolest part of the fire, it's unfortunate they stopped at 22 colors for the script

omg that could lead me to buy the akai fire 16 steps sequencer if it had more rows =D damn it could be a cool lesser mouse usage device besides push2 that feature where you lock the fire to one channel ?! must be the channel armed ? would it work with any other controller ? something like a small keyboard for one channel only ? and is there an template where we could use to make an custom sticker template and stick it on or lay on for visible function names =D ?

Hi, the channel doesn't need to be armed but it works because of the script so it an exclusive feature to the Crossfire script currently. The printed names on the controller very closely follow what their functions are with this script, i'm sure you could find someone to make an overlay but it'd be an effort...

Darren Cowley oh damn how cool is this :D I was allready thinkin if it would be possible to do an midi device that i can put in an channel that send to an vst(on an other channel) and recieve back. Like somethin to have scaler on 1 channel but allways to reroute is so damn annoying. And to have an device that i could do with 1 click would be awesome like i habe the ni komplete m32 that i could make that bind exclusivly to scaler so i can send and recive always the notes from an specific vst like scaler. But would this m4l midi routing device possible ? Sry big out of topic Love the concept of the crossfire :D lile i said im allready thinkin to get the fire just for crossfire.

Hey, I have some issues. I can't link any parameter to the "user" knobs. I just doesn't link anything, Knobs, faders... What could I do to make this work?

No, the FIRE isn't really velocity sensitive and it's not possible for a script to change that....

I like the product, and this is a great representation of what crossfire can do, however I found this tutorial to be quite convoluted and difficult to follow. I think with some more organization and title work to focus the attention this video would be perfect!

Is there any way to lock Fire on clip? I want only use for one drum rack but when i choose other clip in ableton, all disappears/changes. I want to have Fire and see steps only for one clip and one drum rack.

Lock to clip isn’t a feature of Live and sadly can’t be overcome, only one point of focus is allowed…

Sad to hear it only works in session view, it would be neat if you guys made a vst type sequencer plugin you load on a track to use the akai fire in ableton arrangement view.

Yes you focus on the same clip and move one of the controllers to the second set of steps.

Thx for answering. One more question....is it possoble to make the fire output with a resolution of 32 steps per bar instead of 32 per 2 bars? I often live jam at 60 BPM and need those fast rolls :)

Does anyone know why my akai keeps just acting as a piano when I’m using it with Live 11? Clicking even the shift/alt/browser etc are all acting as keys 🙈

Nice device but it is 100 for it plus another 30 for the script... you can get directly an ableton controller at that point. You are losing some features, that is true; but you get something that work with Ableton out of the box, without have to pay extra for a script controller. Also if you want to spend more, and get the whole experience without getting a push, you can always buy an Akai APC40 MK2, which has fundamentally everything you may need and works with Ableton out of the box

@@IsotonikStudios yes, the others are usually 8x8 because that's how you get most real estate on a screen, so it mimic the screen grid to an extent. Indeed it is a choice; and I like when there are choices, because everyone get what fits their needs.

LaunchControl XL if you want faders as well, or if it's just encoders then in my opinion the DJTechTools MIDI Fighter Twister can't be beaten!!

First part is correct, which is why the product isn’t listed as being compatible with Live 11. Website is fully functional however…

Much too complicated. Who is gonna be able to remember all these 100s of shift commands, modes, shift commands within modes etc pp ? All i would want from an Ableton script for this controller is to do step sequencing with a drum rack, that's all. Is there a script for just that, that is a bit easier to understand and more simple than this one right here ?
