I purchased a copy of Crossfire a few years ago along with some suitable miniatures. Despite the purchases I’ve not painted the figures, due to other projects distracting me, nor played a game. This video solidified the preceding rules explanations and has provided much inspiration. Thank you!

Firstly, this was an educational game that ably illustrated why a commander should prioritise manoeuvre over 'action'. This game also shows why tanks should not move as freely as infantry. The P.IV moving from centre to right flank in one turn was pivotal.
@MatakishiTeaHouse
@MatakishiTeaHouse Ай бұрын
It wasn’t really pivotal. The British were on the back foot well before the tank appeared in front of them.

Really enjoy this content. Thanks for sharing. Been considering playing crossfire for a long time but I have one reservation which is demonstrated quite well here. Because of the initiative mechanic, most of that game took place in the British corner (~25%) of the table with ~50% not being used at all. Does this happen often in games? Feels like not much of the table gets utilised as the phasing player sets up an optimal position around the non-phasing player. Thanks and keep the content coming!

It's not common with experienced players. Mark, playing the British, should have moved as far forward as he could with as many units as he could manage before allowing one of them to be seen. As it turned out, he lost the initiative very early on. As the Germans, I was very conscious of the need to expand out of my starting position as, in a previous game, I'd been hemmed in, out manoeuvred and destroyed quite comprehensively.

Hi, I would really like to play crossfire, however, there is one question that I can't find the answer to, I saw in some battle reports that small chip markers representing squads can be hidden under terrain and then revealed when the enemy player comes into that hidden units sights. What I don't understand is how does the player with the hidden unit know when the enemy is within line of sight if there unit is not on the table for them to check. Love your videos
@MatakishiTeaHouse
@MatakishiTeaHouse 2 жыл бұрын
Well, you need to remember where your hidden troops are. They can see into any adjacent terrain feature so figuring out what they can see is quite easy.

His opening moves weren't very good, unfortunately. He should have pushed as many people forward out of German LOS as possible before committing to a move that exposed him to reactive fire.

Man I remember checking Matakishi´s Teahouse about 15 years or so, looking for info for my samurai armies. Good to see youre still around. I have a question though, I have found your house rules for tanks for Crossfire. I dont seem to find the ones for close combat though.

I have a question regarding flanks. When browsing Crossfire forums and such, I often see the advice "Defend your flanks". The problem is, I'm not sure I really understand why. Normal squads can do reactive fire 360 degrees anyway, so what does it really matter from which side you attack them? Attacking a force from the front or side or even back seems to be the same for me. So what's the big deal with flanks?
@MatakishiTeaHouse
@MatakishiTeaHouse 2 жыл бұрын
Support weapons can only shoot to their front so attacking a position from the flank or rear negates their firepower completely. The main problem for a defender who is attacked in the flank is that often his own squads will block the shooting of each other (depending on how they're deployed) this can result in a whole line being rolled up with close combat assaults (this is quite a common fate for novice players). Also, being attacked from the rear prevents a defender from using retreat moves to extricate his units safely. There are many disadvantages to having enemy units running around behind your lines.

just an additional point, units can see 360, but they cannot shoot effectively 360 degrees. They roll less dice if they’re shooting on their flanks or behind them, therefore your units are only shooting at full potential to their front.

If everything gets a no fire - does the game break? No more reactions so opp is free to go about their business - assuming capping objectives is the goal and opp doesn't have to shoot/risk losing initiative
@MatakishiTeaHouse
@MatakishiTeaHouse Ай бұрын
If this were to happen and if the victory conditions were to occupy objectives that were unoccupied by a defender then the current active player would win. The chance of a complete force going no-fire is… unlikely.
