2500 kilometres journey from England to my hometown in Italy. After 3 days cycling in the UK I took a ferry from Harwich to Holland and followed Eurovelo 15 alone the Rhine river, with some diversions in Holland and France. I then moved to Bavaria and cycled south to Austria before crossing the Alps and arriving in my hometown of Rovereto, in the northern Italian Alps.

Most kind Peter. Those cycleways criss crossing Europe are really enjoyable and mostly flat! So far I manage to reply to comments as best as I can. Thank you so much for much for this amazing video! I did cycle trips in Europe and Africa had so much fun... Sadly I lost a leg in a motorcycle accident 6 years ago but managed to ride a bicycle again a few months ago. This video inspired me so much and I have yet again hope and dreams of long rides and trips on my bycle. Greatings from South Africa!

Phillip-Neil, I should thank you for this comment. It is most inspiring to read about your motivation to get back to what you love after the accident you had. I am sure with your attitude you will find a way to do it. It also reminds me about something I try to always bear in mind; good health is not something to be taken for granted and while I am able to do what I enjoy doing I try to make the most of it and these videos are simply the result of this. Many thanks and all the best for your future adventures.

@hazelisaacs2201
@hazelisaacs2201 2 жыл бұрын
@@carolleenkelmann4751 I've had my Brompton for 15 years and love it- they are worth every penny. The difference in riding style is more than made up for by the ease with which you can just put them on a train, in the back of a car / taxi / luggage rack of a bus etc. if the weather suddenly changes. Here in the UK there's a lot of lip - service about taking bikes on trains but in reality competition for space with wheelchairs, prams etc means bikes are just not a priotity or there are so many different regulations on different rail companies it can get awkward on journeys where you have to change train. With a Brompton this has never been an issue - I look up the nearest rail station to a place & set off. I'd love to have the courage for wild camping but men can get away with more than I would as a woman travelling alone!

I started watching your videos. I took my wife to a Brompton store. I asked her if she would like to do some Brompton touring in England or Holland/Belgium. She said a big emphatic yes!! Another beautiful trip! I'm amazed at how many places you can travel safely away from cars. Here in New Jersey I take my life in my hands every time I head out because of rude and uneducated drivers. With all the sad things happening here right now this video is another example of how far we need to go as a nation.

Hi Doug, even in Europe there are differences within regions. What I followed here is a network of rides called Eurovelo which are a great way to cross Europe and are mostly on dedicated cycleways. I loved touring in the US too but as soon as you get closer to cities you are better off the bike so I know what you mean.

Without a doubt this video has set a new high quality standard for profiessionalism for bike touring videos. As you have noted the cities and towns you traveled through I listed them out in the order you noted. By using Google Earth/directions I was able to plot your route with the distances between each city/town then by going back on to your video I was able see the countryside you were travelling through between each city/town, also all the side streets you took through those villages. I must say you did an absolutely marvellous job of plotting all the back roads, cycle tracks and low traffic volume roads going through so many countries. I'm watching it all again. Very, very inspiring Gianni a beautiful production mate. Viewed in Cambodia.

Your videos are simply works of art. This latest one being a prime example. You seem to go by the mantra "less is more," that is, less talk, less narration. You let your scenery, and your music, do the speaking. With very few other videographers would I spend 34 minutes - and fewer still would make videos this enchanting. Thanks.
@BromptonTraveler
@BromptonTraveler 3 жыл бұрын
You made my day Stephen! I don't think I deserve those compliments but that you liked it is already enough, thanks! I do try my best and edit videos that let the scenery speak rather than having my face splashed all over it and my voice getting in the way. Due to limitations of riding mostly solo, I do have to use those shots of my 'mug' while I ride but they are a way to bring some variation rather than a vain attempt to impress anyone! Voice over I find are at times helpful to describe situations and I have used them in the Patagonia trip. Otherwise less is more is for sure one of the guiding principles in my life. Regards

Thanks Tobe. This trip was 28 days in total and 25 days riding. It was in June last year in the midst of the pandemic so the only time I could use a hotel was in Rotterdam. Traveller, you are amazing to venture out with a folding city bike. No electricity to help you...All the way from UK to Italy.. Your videos are indeed beautiful. No rain.. God bless! A question I have is would the journey be easier if you had a bigger big wheel 26 inch bike... Don’t know! NRN!
@BromptonTraveler
@BromptonTraveler 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, a bike with larger wheels and maybe more gears would make it a little bit more comfortable. Usually the benefit of Brompton is if you have to take it on a plane or train or bus... On this occasion I only took the bike back on a plane on my return journey. This route though is easy as there are not too many mountains to climb and a Brompton is more than capable in these conditions. Thanks

it's not so much of a problem, I'm autistic and no great at communicating to people who even know me, and I have travelled independantly, door to door across many lands where I've only had the words for please and thank you. It's a very basic act, with only readily identifiable needs. Food, shelter, direction of a town, that's about it. What's more a bicycle is like a magnet of goodness as it brings out the best in folk of the briefest of acquantance to offer the help one would only expect of the most grateful servant. Truely it opens the heart and mind as the landscape unfolds before you.

Thank you for sharing this unique cycling experience. This is very inspiring and motivating. Just a suggestion, but I think this type of video would be very therapeutic for people of all ages including children, who are physically grounded due to illness or laid up in hospital (especially those who love to cycle). It takes you on a journey of freedom, movement and adventure. I loved the parts filmed from the saddle. I have a Brompton with the same handlebars and I really felt part of the journey. I have done that ferry trip from UK to Holland many times. For future reference, It is actually much better, faster and more convenient to go on as a foot passenger with it. Once you get through passport control, unfold it and then you can actually wheel it all the way up to your cabin. Then you have your precious Brompton at your side at all times. Hope that helps. Cool video.

Thanks for that Colin. If I ever do it again I know what to do! I did it in June 2020 and passengers were so few that it went very smooth anyway. I can imagine what that boat can be like when busy...Like you say though it is not worth risking a Brompton when you don't have to! ;)

England-Holland-Germany-Alsace-Rhine-Austria-Germany(yet again!)-Austria(briefly again)-Italy. Wow! Epic 😁!!! And beautifully put together! Even at almost the age of 71 (though a youthful 71), it inspires me to gradually get back on form, and start using my Brommy to do some serious solo biking trips. I have already much of the equipment required. I just have to get it out of the mothballs after years of disuse (hoping it hasn't been moth-eaten 😨). I must say: I thoroughly envy your apparent effortlessness when you reach the mountains (heavily loaded to boot) 😵. I thought you were travelling in an easterly direction with a view to skirting them. No way!!

Well, I was heading home which is just beyond the Austrian Alps into Italy. It is pretty add to go around them without adding 500 miles or so! :) I do like climbing though even though on a Brompton I am pretty slow... I hope you get to spin the wheels of your Brompton again soon. Thanks
@Muddy283
@Muddy283 3 жыл бұрын
@@BromptonTraveler I spin them regularly but at the moment on *very* short journeys. In more normal times, 40k return journey is a regular (i.e. weekly - occasionally 2x weekly) trip but nothing greater than that. I need to start getting seriously regular, i.e. short daily outings gradually increasing the mileage, in order to build up the form. Then when I have some reasonable base form, starting with a one-day outing slowly get a bit more ambitious. Btw I've sent you a message on your website with my email address as requested.

Gianni, another fantastic trip, And such a great video, thanks for putting it together and sharing it. I was particularly impressed with all the quiet cyclways and paths you were riding on, good to know that there are route availble for long distance trips. Sustrans routes are great when they are, but so often short and lucky to get over 20 miles before hitting a busy road. I was also really enjoying some of the music backing the video, do you have a list of the artists?
@BromptonTraveler
@BromptonTraveler 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Neil! Most appreciated. I haven't cycled much on Sustrans here in the UK but over the pond they have quite a few Eurovelo which are mostly on cycleways, and cross Europe from all directions. The one I cycled most on this trip was Eurovelo 15 which follows the Rhine river to the source in Switzerland. Good to hear about the music as it is always really hard to find copyright free music. I mostly use www.epidemicsound.com for all the tracks but don't have a list of artists at hand. Thanks
