This Free Online Guitar Lesson is Crossroads by Cream with Eric Clapton.
I started dreaming of the guitar around then, and I didn't start playing till age 12. By the time I was 14 I was playing whatever version of crossroads I could muster.
Once again I have to thank Steve Maase for being probably the greatest guitar teacher in the world. We were and still are lucky to have Steve in Albuquerque New Mexico.

The greatest guitar solo of it's time, it had everything, even Hendrix was mesmerised by Cream. The interesting thing about this solo is if you learn to play it, it will teach you everything you can do on a guitar (apart from tapping and whammy bar techniques). It will teach you double stops, double bends, slides, hammer ons, pull offs, vibrato etc. I also believe this is the most complete solo Clapton ever performed, it's melodic, intense, fast, accurate, and had every single thing in it Clapton knew how to do at the time.Tim pays a nice homage to Clapton at the end of the solo, but Claptons end solo is incredible!

The weird thing is that Clapton didn’t like it. He said he screwed up the timing a couple of times. I agree with you though!

Is there a moment when you were learning guitar, that your teacher or someone pointed out something that you were doing wrong, like how you were holding your pick, etc..that changed everything? I watch these and of course say "wow" like 99.9% of everyone else, but watching you teach makes things not only attainable, but much less frustrating...live forever! eagerly awaiting any material from you! thanks millions! This was the first song and solo I ever learned, and was back in 1986. The tablature arrived in a guitar player magazine and I just poured over it. I have forever been glad that I learned it, because everything else following wasn't too tough and paved the way for me to learn other player's guitar styles. After this song, I went deeply into Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and the three Kings.

I find this lesson - and your lessons in general great for providing a foundation or reference point to fall back on when creating my own licks. Okay Tim, my guitar's in pieces having been thrown out the window, so what's next? I would run out of superlatives describing your demonstration of how to out Clapton the big 'E' but the greatest compliment I could give is how you really put yourself and joy into playing. There is a sublime love in there for what you do and that's what separates you from we lesser mortals who have enough problems simply getting the notes right never mind putting those subtle bends and beautiful, expressive tonality in with but a thought. The smile as you come down that blinding half blues, half country run before flying back up to the 12th fret is worth a thousand words. Thank you for being who you are. I have taken the liberty of looping your piece 4 times into a 6 minute track if that's okay although without the smile it isn't quite the same! Put that on a CD and I'd buy it like a shot. The sheer exuberance of your playing is a wonder to behold and an inspiration to so many. Thank you for being who you are.
