One of my mums absolute favourites. She’d sit down for probably the first time all day doing her knitting and watching the going’s on of Meg and Sandy, Carlos Raphael the chef, Josephina his wife and Amy Turtle - the gossip. Mum died in 1972 so the show must’ve been running for decades.

Ronnie Allen was also in another Hazel Adair & Peter Ling soap 'Compact' (BBC 1962-1965) where he played Ian Harman, the editor of "Compact' the womens magazine. I would have liked to have seen some info on Pamela Vezey, who played Kath Brownlow and who, IRL died the same day as my mum, and of the same illness, and Trish Hope, one of Meg's friends and employees and who will ever forget Mr. Lovejoy (William Avenall) J. @@minty448 Clearly you don't watch Coronation Street in 2023 then - Craig, The Keystone Cop, Steve, the gurning taxi driver, Mincing Sean to name a few - you could start a timber yard with them. Ronnie Allen could do gravitas - the trio I have just mentioned wouldn't even know what that was - they would probably think it an own brand version of Bisto.

Thank you for this of course. Angus Lennie was also in a series called Dad that was on BBC1 between 1997 to 1999; or at least one episode of it. It also starred George Cole and Kevin McNally too. The episode that he was in I am sure was meant to be in a golf course clubhouse. I think the son fellow was meant alas at the time to have had piles sadly, and in it he asked him whether that cream worked up his bottom or not?! I know he then said to him that it had, but it was in front of many other people as well too! I think that series was written by Andrew Marshall; who had already done 2 point 4 Children there too at the time also. He was also a writing partner with David Renwick, who of course before that wrote One Foot In The Grave on BBC1 as well too. Well done too!

True story.....one of the several Directors was a lecturer at Salford University when I was there, (97 to 99) and I was a mature student but the younger ones had never heard of it. He used to say that he couldn't even bear to see himself in the mirror after working on it but I think he was being a bit unfair to himself.

Used to watch this every evening. My Mum and Dad were firm fans, not that in those days there was very much competition. What about Hugh Mortimer? He was a regular for many years and also Carlos the Chef? Lastly the Garage owner/manager? Forgotten his name but can see his face ...................... As a young boy back then had quite a thing for 'Jill', thought that she might have been a bit of a goer!. Seem to remember from the dark recesses of my memory, that Ronald Allen (David Hunter) was in the b/w Film of the Titanic.
