If you're a seasoned commuter you probably already know that sometimes the way you're directed through a Tube station isn't always the quickest. So why then do Tube bosses make us take a longer route? Our Transport Correspondent Tom Edwards spent a rush hour at Victoria station to find out.

I lived there and nothing worse than reaching your station after a day at work and it is being locked up at 5.30 so your choice get on a bus which will likely be stationary for 30 to 40 mins due to the crazy traffic or walk the 3 ish miles to Charing Cross. This was not a one off situation. If I had a note for every time I have heard signals down at London Bridge I would be rivalling Jeff Bezos. Another favourite, signal failure at Waterloo then trying to get out of that melee is like trying to get out of a mosh pit. Needs serious money spent on it. No idea what it is like now but the Northern line was famous for being the misery line. Also on one of my last visits only a few years ago reached Camden 5pm and guess what locked up. It was just like old times.

First surname Safer on the pavement than roads. Last year I lived there 6 cyclists were killed in 2 weeks and even if that is higher than average enough to show how dangerous it is on London roads. I remember being in South London lights on green and watched a cyclist taken out by a car who must have ignored the red light. Even on YT there is a vid of a geezer sat on a bike at a junction stationary and a copper drives right into him. I'll take my chances off the road.

Immigration is overwhelming all of our infrastructure. Things can only get worse. And it’s making us poor. The cost of Crossrail for instance. Sixteen billion, nearly all of it spent on foreign made trains, signalling and building materials steelwork etc. And the trains ARE mostly foreign. We just assemble bits from Austria etc. And when it’s finished we will only be back to how things were a few years ago. No real improvements are possible with a third of a million immigrants (that we know about) coming here every year, year on year. Equal to a city bigger than Newcastle. In Britain now EVERYTHING is overcrowded and miserable. Thanks immigrants. And the cretins keep telling us we need lots of immigrants - to cope with all the immigrants! burnzy3210 then prices go up. Plenty of immigrants do great hard work because they grew up that way. Yes every culture should be preserved however to say that immigrants only have jobs because of quotas is ridiculous. Btw no there wouldn’t be heaps of room if immigrants moved out because more country people would move in.

Saying that compamys don't have employment quotas is also ridiculous. People are being side lined because companies don't want to seen as racist or sexist. It's called Equality of Outcome.

Cartoonman154 when did I say they don’t have quotas? I said they’d still employ immigrants even if there were no quotas because certain groups have better work ethics. East Asians and Indians work like machines and don’t expect a raise unless they really deserve it. In the US, Mexicans who work on farms are much faster at picking fruit and veg and accept lower pay, so that everyone can have cheap fruit and veg. Not everything is entirely about quotas. This is about population. The UK actually could house everyone easily, there’s already enough bedrooms for everyone. People just congregate in London too much. People need to spread out. Even if all immigrants leave London, rural English people would then move into London because the north has unemployment issues. The trains being inadequate isn’t a good reason to tell natives to have less kids. You can organise cities to be more efficient. Such as have more bus lanes and bike lanes. Get rid of cars completely. Build taller buildings, have shops and jobs within a 300 metre radius of any residence. Just things like that will keep congestion down.
