This is so true. We often underestimate kids once we’re adults but we forget that when we were kids we were actually really intelligent and able to comprehend the basic foundation of a lot of adult issues, even if we couldn’t get all the nuances just yet.

SO good!! My kid has watched excerpts from drag performances with me her whole life. It was never hard for her to understand. She understood the difference between drag and a trans person and that people of any gender can do drag. So the real question is why do adults pretend like it's so incomprehensible.

Also most kids know a little boy who chooses a fairy costume or tutu unprompted when playing dressups* or a little girl who wants to dress up as Spiderman. *That little boy I knew growing up was one of four rough-n-tumble boys from a rural football loving family in the 90s. And his mum taught cake decorating classes. So it truly came out of nowhere.
@injunsun6 ай бұрын
The ignorant are worried drag is a gateway to getting otherwise "normal" cis-gender, straight kids (especially boys) to think about and "go" trans and/or gay, because they believe those things are learned, and a choice. They really DON'T comprehend it, because it exists outside their world framing. To make it fit, they have to MAKE it fit, by describing it in terms it is not. Meanwhile, they need to be worried more about their church youth ministers and boy scout leaders.
@aja11086 ай бұрын
It's because they're trying to juxtapose it with a Trans and gender movement. They're different things. So it's keeping those men who haven't worked out their own stuff out of your children's psyche. Drag is understandable, especially by children, because they understand the world of make-believe. The misogynistic "women" with a penis want to imprint more than educate. It's very much a male agenda as you see no female to male impersonators needing representation and a platform.
@hay6930Ай бұрын
Kids are naturally accepting. It's on the parents to make sure they're probably educated and socialized.

I was a GA 9th grade English and drama teacher and every time I watch Bob do comedy I wonder if he would have been like my student Ashley that I never forgot about. She was so funny and knew she could get me off topic by making me laugh. She would randomly say something like, "y'all picture Ms.Anderson on the beach in a leopard skin bikini and thigh high boots!" Or "Girl, your breath smells like hot lettuce!"I don't know why that's hilarious to me but she got me every time.😂

I love your explanation of drag for people who interact with kids but aren’t family. It’s an awesome way to have that conversation with kids. I’m going to give some context in who I am because I agree with you, Bob. 7th and 8th grade is ROUGH when you’re a kid doing it, let alone when you’re trying to interact with kids at that age as an adult. I was born and raised in Miami, FL and I am third generation. The only time those 3 generations didn’t live in Miami was from 1962-1964 when my grandparents moved to Atlanta, GA for my grandfather’s work, and my mom was 8-10 years old. Now, I think the problem with Atlanta, GA in 1962-1964 is somewhat apparent, but I’m going to explain. My grandmother was an exceptionally kind soul. She was gentle and loving and the most loving person I ever met. All of my life, I remember her taking every opportunity to teach me to be kind and not judge, particularly people, by appearances. She was not able to handle the very apparent racism in Atlanta, GA while being away from her family. So, my family moved back to Miami, FL, with my mother remembering many lessons from my grandmother about how you treat human beings privately and publicly. Fast forward to me being in elementary school in Miami, FL and watching Hollywood Squares with my mom every time it was on. One day, a wonderful star who is so funny is on. She goes by the name RuPaul. She’s glamorous and beautiful and clever. I remember thinking, “Wow. I hope to be as beautiful and funny as she is one day”. Now granted, I wasn’t in the dreaded 7th grade yet. (Boy how much that “Bullied in the anti-bullying class” rang true to me.) But RuPaul’s biological gender didn’t matter to me, nor did I consider it my business. Even when I was an adult and saw RuPaul again on an episode of season 1 of Top Chef. Anyways, as my mom and I would watch together, what mattered to us was spending time together and laughing at these funny people including RuPaul. We were excited by her appearances because we knew it was going to be funny. We were disappointed by her not being there with another person being present who we knew wasn’t as funny. My point is that spot on as your view point is about how teachers can speak about drag to kids, Bob, parents and kids’ natural demeanors along with parents’ reinforcement of kind demeanors rather than critical and harmful demeanors is necessary too. Thanks for always being there to entertain and educate, Bob. ❤❤❤
