I’m sure Neil had his buddy , the original drummer, on his mind while singing this song. Holding back tears is so hard to do in a live performance whether you are on stage or in the audience! 😥🎤💔 Rest in Paradise Paul Hester. ✨🥁💖

This is MY band... like my all time favourite band. I love Neil Finn. I think he is one of the finest songwriters in the world. When this song came out, oddly enough, I was being cheated on in my marriage and deciding whether or not to leave. So hearing this song come out by my favourite band helped me to do just that. It helped me express the grief of it and heal. All these years later, I still love this song. It will always be special to me.

The very first time I got dumped by a girl, this song came on the radio, back when it was a just becoming a hit. In the last 5 years I lost my health, my career, my wife and step-kids, my fortune. It was a dark tunnel, but driving home tonight this came on the radio, and I sang along with all I had. As soon as I got home I got out my guitar and wrote a nice finger picking arrangement, and tomorrow I'm getting all my record eq. out that's been in storage since '16 and I can't wait to do a cover of this. I've been getting there on my own, getting close to that light at the end of the tunnel of appreciation and gratitude, but funny how this tune finally closed a circle for me of getting into relationships again and again where I lived for someone else and thought I had to be need-less not to be selfish. Loved your reaction, and love this song, this just might be the greatest night of my life, all glory and praise going to the Lord for that. The life lesson He kept presenting to me, louder and louder, to the point of having everything stripped away for me to finally get it tonight, singing along driving down a dark highway to this tune, I finally get why... and I'm bursting with gratitude because I know without losing it all I'd strangely never have a chance to be happy. A serious spiritual awakening was sparked by hearing this song again after so many years, and I don't think it was any coincidence.
@jonofoz5 күн бұрын
I heard it for the first time just yesterday and I feel 1,000% spiritually and physically renewed. Needed it. Badly. I’ve spent my entire life thinking I had to be needless in order to not be selfish, too. But no more. Amen to non-coincidences!

To me, this song was a follow up to the bands very successful first album in the U.S. The band hit it fairly big in 87. They truly worked their butts off. This was the first single from the second record released in July of 88. This song should have been a big hit but was perceived as to Country, and the momentum slowed stateside, still a major band all over the world.

Tia Elina - I watched it live on the telly. I was not fortunate enough to get tickets! Crowded House is an Aussie institution. A brief, but never forgotten flash in Aussie music history. It’s like they’ve always been there forever, but when researched, they were around all too briefly, but with MASSIVE impact. Each member had longevity in the Aussie music industry, most notably in Split Enz. But always somewhere, just too short in their incarnation as Crowded House! (I know you’d know this, but it’s more for others’ benefit, if they’re interested) 😉
@because_the_internet4 жыл бұрын
Hold up. I might concede that Crowded House are an Australian band, given the nationality of all members than that don't have the surname 'Finn'. There is no way that Split Enz could ever be considered an Australian band.
@popepenka83344 жыл бұрын
Because the Internet - oh they’re New Zealand all right, but I didn’t say they weren’t... what I (carefully) said was that they were an Aussie institution - embedded very deeply into our psyche. A great deal of their career was crafted in Australia, because unfortunately back then, there wasn’t as much coverage in NZ, so many NZ bands came over the ditch to make it here.

I only saw Crowded House live once. It was a huge concert (the Concert for life, an AIDS fundraiser from memory in Sydney) and they weren't even the headliners. Heaps of bands played that day (def fx, yothu yindi, others I'm no chance of remembering) in 1992. Crowded House played just before the headliners, INXS. Crowded House had the crowd in the palm of their hands and their music sounded as good or better than their recorded music. I'm a big fan of INXS but they embarrassed themselves that day. Michael Hutchence (INXS lead singer and one of the best front men of all time) was clearly off his face on drugs or alcohol or both. I'm not sure how the INXS musicians performed that day because all the focus was on how Michael couldn't stand up straight or hold a tune. It was a real shame. Back to Crowded House though, the Finn brothers are extraordinarily talented. Neill Finn, the guy you just watched in the video has an equally talented (debatable of course) brother called Tim Finn that was the lead singer of a huge band in Australia (and NZ where they come from) called Spit Enz. Neill, who was a member of Split Enz towards the end of their journey joined with Paul Hester (also from Split Enz) to form Crowded House. I love both bands but if I had to choose one song from either brother/band as my favourite it would be Tim Finns [Made My Day](kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bKqnmNV0larGpZs.html&start_radio=1&t=20). Some songs just do it for you and this song does it for me. I was seven or eight when it came out and it's the first "pop" song I felt a resonance with. It's also a bit of a sad song though, it was one of the songs on Tim Finns debut solo album. It was because Tim went solo that his brother formed Crowded House and I can't imagine how good the music would have been if the brothers worked together for longer.

Crowded House is my second favorite band, the first favorite is Duran Duran. I love the song of "Better be home soon". I remember when the song came out back in 1988. It wasn't a huge hit like "Don't Dream It's Over" but I liked it. BBHS didn't get much radio airplay back in 1988 like DDIO did in 1987. Crowded House's second album "Temple Of Low Men" wasn't as popular as their debit album here in the states.
@sherdoni3 жыл бұрын
Better Be Home Soon hit #1 in Australia, New Zealand and in Canada in 1988. Canada had always been a big supporter of both Split Enz, and CH. The record company, Captiol, didn't properly promote the album, so the fact it didn't receive much airplay was understandable. Bruce Springsteen once commented that Temple of Low Men should have been massive in the USA, if not for the record company fumbling it. But it was not to be, as the big hair bands started to dominate the charts by 1988. They only properly toured the West Coast from Seattle to LA after their cross country Canadian Tour.
