What i'm wondering is if the game has a difficulty progression system like ascension levels in Slay the Spire or Covenants in Monster Train. From what i read in Steam discussions, the game only has a hard mode (added ~November 2020), and some seasoned Roguelike veterans find it too easy after learning the main things. (though probably for 95% of players, it's more than hard enough)

That's more or less correct. There is an additional hard mode but not an incremental one like StS ascension levels. I play a lot of roguelikes/roguelites and I can see it being easier than a lot of them , especially traditional roguelikes. But it stays challenging long enough that I think most people will get a few dozen hours out of it before it starts to be an issue.
