That awards ceremony was embarrassing. No top 8 medal ceremony of any kind, immediately jumping to Chris who just lost, only giving Uma like a minute to talk, having no professional translators and making Xian do it, leaving Uma hanging as he stands there awkwardly as a nothing trailer plays, and ending it off on Rob walking across the stage as everybody just forgot about the damn first place trophy still sitting there. It made the whole event feel more like a locals with an Arby's gift card on the line and not a world championship for a million dollars.

Perhaps you guys don't know that UMA only brought US$300 on his way for this tournament. There is no sponsor and he was on his own. He was planned to eat only one meal a day, but luckily the game organiser provided some free meals. This is a true story from US$300 to 1M.

Uma qualified through Aubi Cup, the WW tournament for Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macao tournament, by defeating Chris Wong in the grand final. Also earlier than Aubi Cup in Asia East online premier, the top 4 are uma, Chris Wong, NL and Leshar. NL took the W there but that is the real stacked region.

I was tryin to tell people not to sleep on 'em. But there names aren't Punk, Tokido, etc so my friend group thought I was nuts when I told them there was no way at least 1 of either Uma or Chris Wong made it citing the last offline we had them in. I got a small (big) amount of satisfaction being right. But more, the satisfaction was people actually learning names that aren't just the legacy players. That players like Kusanagi can show his stuff. That Asia East is a real region. That in this format a player that never would have been able to make it due to the financial burden (Chris, Uma) can show their worth on the world stage and come out on top.

Sure, not even defeating the most fearsome competition could not account for proving that someone is considerable a top player among the best in the world, aaalright, we're at this again...
@epicgamerman2510
@epicgamerman2510 4 ай бұрын
@@Gibbidens God, can you just shut the fuck up. First of all it took me like 3 reads to understand what the hell you were trying to say and I was still annoyed the entire time (although admittedly if english isn't your first language that's on me, sorry). Far more importantly though, is that no one said anything that warranted your super passive aggressive comment. Let me list them for you in case you didn't get it. It's refreshing to see new, less traditionally represented people (like uma), which is true. The people who HAVE been traditionally at the top need to watch out for rising fierce competition, which is true. Finally, that winning over a long period of time is more important than one victory, which I guess is what you're taking issue with? Even though that's so barely debatable it's almost given as true???? Sure, the person who said it might not have had the greatest attitude ever, but that shouldn't detract from the point in any way. Honestly I'm really not sure what you're disagreeing with, no one said uma wasn't to be considered a top player... I just don't understand why people like you are mean and condescending for the sake of it. Please stop and think critically before you type. (And yes I understand the irony of responding to getting angry at that by writing a mean comment, but I'm really sick of people sharing defensible, valid, and discussion opening opinions only for them to get shut down by what feels like a really intentional straw man.)

It is criminal that Leshar got out of Group F in winners (winning sets against AngryBird, Mena, EndingWalker, etc) and went on to get 5th place overall to only get 0.5% of the prize pool. 10k out of $2,000,000. Overall great video btw Brian and cool tournament to watch I just wanted to mention that again cause it's crazy.

I was really happy to see Uma win, Juri is one of the characters I play. And I might be a hater, but I thought it was way more fun rooting for him and Gotchakun as they knocked out the Lukes. I'm casual, but I felt like they just had more tricky tech while the Lukes were just buisness as usual. Of course they are amazing players that I don't want to throw shade on, but I feel justified on being kind of sick of Luke since I watched a lot of the pools matches too.

@pat_squared6359
@pat_squared6359 4 ай бұрын
This is how double elimination works and why you want to stay on Winner's Side. Chris had lost already to UMA earlier and was put into the loser's bracket. So he had to beat him in a set to "reset" the bracket and basically knock UMA into Loser's Side first and then beat him again in that bracket to win the whole thing. UMA's advantage is he only has to win one set since he never lost a set in the first place.

Props to UMA, but it's hard to call the winner of this wack setup as the "champ". The best regions, i.e. Japan, were artificially limited slots. Pools were random instead of seeded so we had nightmare pools like F and then comparatively easy pools. Pools were best of 3 and the overall event was so slow and stretched out. The downtime between matches was absurd. Again, no hate on UMA. He beat the players in front of him. I hope he enjoys that cool million, but Capcom should be embarassed with how inept this tournament format is. Winning EVO or some of the other stacked tournaments this year is more impressive.
