Crowning with a box blade the easy way!

Using my John Deere 3032E and 5’ Behlen Country box blade to crown a gravel driveway. I show how easy it is to crown a gravel drive using a box blade without having to adjust the leveling arm.

Hi Jeff, I just bought a box blade for my Kubota BX and was quite interested in watching your technique, thanks for posting the video, however , I think a bit more editing would improve its watchability, gets a bit bit repetitive at times. The driveway looks much improved!

Great video! Do you remember what type of driveway material you put down? I have a lot of work on my driveway coming up this year and want to make sure I'm getting the right stuff.

Up north where we are it’s basalt. I moved south to TX and they use limestone. Call your local quarry or pit and they’ll tell you what to use. 1.5” for muddy areas and 3/4” to top it. Get crushed material with fines so it locks together. Clean rock won’t lock and will always move on you. Good luck!

Looks good. Is most of that blade work done in float or is that precision experience at work there?

'Precision' :) Depending on slope of grade and angel of the blade dictates how much of the 'top' gets knocked down. I try to only knock a little off the top before pulling the box blade back and forth a few times to get it just right. Thanks for watching!

@@iveneverdonethisbefore8390 only if you lower it all the way. You can use angle and height to precisely get what you want but you're right if you lower all the way it will always be considered float

If you wanted to can you blade with the box and use the bucket at the same time? I've ran big heavy equipment for years but never ran a utility tractor in my life, thanks

It doesn’t work that well in gravel in my experience, or I’m not that good...🤷‍♂️ I have done it plowing snow over asphalt, and it doubles my efficiency. Thanks for watching.

Came from the dealer I bought the tractor from. I don’t even know what kind they are, but they’re great for moving implements! Just hook the lynch pin and pick it up.

Start out explaining how you set up your blade. Angles,pitch etc. Thats why people watch these videos.

B0x blades are not the right tool for the job . Straight blade you need a blade with a pitch to get it right.

Funny thing is I planned on buying a Kubota but the salesmen at my local dealer didn’t want to give me the time of day and didn’t think I was a serious buyer… when I walked into the JD dealer it was a whole different experience. They were helpful, answered my questions and took me serious. For that reason I bought a JD and will continue to purchase from JD in the future. That being said, I don’t think having a Kubota will help with views. It doesn’t seem to help you at all! 😉 Thanks for watching!
