Agreeing with Tyranny being underrated. It's not the longest or most complex but it really delivers an experience no other games do. I hate how the few games that let you be evil don't really lean into that and still give you choices to be morally good whereas in Tyranny you really can't completely change all the circumstances. I've seen some great videos on how even if you rebel against Kyros in the end he/she will still win.

Yeah it's funny Wasteland 1 and 2 were rather subpar to me. They're weren't terrible but they couldn't stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the others on this list. However Wasteland 3 really raised the bar and I'm hoping they will keep going.

I saw that! Whole series is 90% off! While Inquisition wasn't my favorite it's worth a playthrough, and Veilguard looks pretty cool from what we've seen so far.

all troika games (arcanum, temple of elemental evil, vampire bloodlines) are hidden gems. Temple of elemental evil is the most accurate computer version of D&D3.5E, and is on par with solasta and bg3 in accuracy (even better on some points). Arcanum is just fallout with a steampunk skin (so what's not to like) and vampire bloodlines is still one of the best immersive sim today.

That's a solid game as well, but for some reason I got burned out on it after a good 40 or 50 hours. At some point I may return to it but I think the problem was with me, not the game. Overall it was a solid title.

Numenera was such a digital book. Never got around to finish it, as I had gotten DOS2. I prefer more dialogue checks and meaningful content than tons of random characters giving you their life stories- ahhh *traumatic Naruto filler flashbacks*

After Kingmaker give Wrath of the Righteous a try. Its also a Pathfinder game but instead of setting up a kingdom in a no mans land you are leading a crusade against the demons of the abyss. The main draw is deciding how you ascend beyond mortality to gain the power to fight the demons. Do you become an angel? Do you become a devil? Do you become the cold embodiment of law? Or do you reject ascension and decide to push your mortal body to its limit becoming a living legend? I would honestly listen to the main menu song of Wrath of the Righteous at the very least as it very much encapsulates the theme of the story.

I would love a larian version of Icewind Dale. While I love bg1 and bg2, the turn based combat of bg3 is far superior and less headache inducing (usually)

Icewind dale isn't an evolution of baldur's gate. Icewind dale is a dungeon crawl campaign. Unlike most CRPGS that has story companions, in icewind dale you make a party of 6, there is no interaction between companions as you manage the party as a single body. The campaign is also very linear, you just chain dungeons and go from point A to point B without going back most of the time. that said icewind dale 1&2 are very good dungeon crawlers (especially icewind dale 2).

Never played it but I have heard really good things! I'll add it to my backlog

Yeah so I don't think there are any hard boundaries on what constitutes different RPG types (with the last being Japanese Role Playing Game). I think a lot of times they blend into one another

CRPG- Computer Role Playing Game (Baldurs Gate, Pillars of Eternity etc) TTRPG- Table Top Role Playing Game. (Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, etc.) ARPG -Action RPG (Final Fantasy 15, Kingdom Hearts, etc) JRPG- Japanese RPG ( though japan makes RPGs of all type, this moniker USUALLY refers to turn based games with linear stories, so Persona 5, Final Fantasy 7, Pokemon, etc) Like with all categories, there is no real boundary between any of these, aside from Tabletop i suppose. It’s mostly vibes

The first time I went to the camp in BG3 I was laughing so hard because it's literally Dragon Age 1's camp all over again

@@pancakesean6888 yeah I also loved how it also changes when you travel to different places and you can actually rent a room in a tavern, that's a nice touch. They should've done something similar in Dragon Age.

Dragon Age Origins is my favorite game of all time. No game will ever top it for me, and I have played through the game 6 times and no sign of it getting dull to me. I highly recommend the mod Slinks S3 Ravage for anyone that wants combat and items to be more interesting on subsequent playthoughs. It's an amazing mod that creates random custom enemies on the fly and adds completely new, randomized loot for all enemies in the game. You can get absolutely crazy items, and you have no idea what you might get. It makes looting so much more exciting than vanilla. Add some mods that increase the difficulty and combat becomes a blast to play through again, imo at least.

Did you seriously claim the writing and dialogue is better in DA:I compared to DA:O? How can anyone think this way is beyond me

So I'm dating myself here, but when a lot of the old CRPGs came out with those static isometric graphics we were AMAZED at how it looked. Back in the 90s and early 00s having a static 2D matte allowed for pretty groundbreaking graphics at the time. On some shitty 800 by 600 pixel monitor Baldurs Gate 1 looked incredible lol

@@pancakesean6888 I get that it was good graphics for the times back then. It's just frustrating that after witnessing BG3, there is nothing exciting in the old games to me anymore. The difference is just too big

@@arc7498 Yeah that's completely fair. I think anyone who loves BG3 and wants to try BG1 is just not going to have a good time at all because everything is so difficult and manual. I would love a modern remaster in the BG3 engine but that's a tall order

@@KairuHakubi You're right, nothing in the term crpg prevents a Japanese game from being one. However, if there -is- a Japanese CRPG, I've never come across one. Japanese developers, in my experience, do not make games in the crpg -style-. Technically the 'c' stands for computer, but like many genre names its kind of loose and arbitrary and used to describe a certain 'feel'. I'd say there are two main criteria for a crpg, and you only have to hit one of them. As you can see in this video, MOST of the entries are either isometric, top-down, point and click experiences that lean heavily towards mouse and keyboard, with some exceptions in the full 3D Bioware titles. However, those ones all hit the second criteria, which is extensive dialogue options and the ability to make story decisions and choices in how your character speaks. As an off-shoot of that, letting you customise your protagonist in terms of looks/voice/class/build is also pretty standard, except in some edge cases like Planescape. That's why Disco Elysium is here despite having no combat system; because it hits these other criteria that give it the crpg 'feel.' Meanwhile 'JRPGs' have an entirely different feel despite being in the same overarching rpg genre. Old or new, they tend to fit better on consoles with controllers. The stories are generally baked-in, either fully linear or with very limited choices. The protagonists tend to be set characters; you can MAYBE name them but customisation is very rare. As to 'Japanese' versus 'Western', that distinction is secondary to how the game feels. If a western country made a game that looked and felt like a JRPG, I'd call it a JRPG-style game. If Japan made a game that felt like one of these, I'd happily call it a CRPG and say that it belonged on a list like this.

I fully agree, its just interesting when we consider that New Vegas absolutely -does- count despite the exact same engine, visuals and mechanical framework. All it took was some design philosophy changes to right the ship, so to speak.
