I grew up on Eugene’s games in the arcade like Defender and my all time favorite Robotron 2084 which I played just last week in a Barcade here in Worcester, MA! Thanks Eugene. You are a legend!!

This is an incredible interview series. I can't wait for Part 2. I kind of grew up at a time when Eugene Jarvis' creations kind of ruled the roost in the arcades, at least over here. Defender and Robotron were huge, and the sound that came from them really set them apart. One thing that each game did was give the player a unique experience, at the time, that they had to wrap their head around the concept of how the game plays. This often made them seem like they wouldn't do great at the Electronic Expo kind of showings, but were a big hit with the actual gamers themselves. The whole, player controlled side-scrolling wrap around shooter concept was a Defender creation. Even to the point of the "then alien" design of having your ship turn, and then drift to the other side of the screen as it accelerates in the other direction, was an adjustment (even though that was to make sure as you travelled, you'd have the most amount of screen to look ahead at what you were flying towards).

From Cruis'n to Fireteam Raven I've spent so many quarter and hours on these machines. What a legend.

Awesome. I’ve liked his games since I was a kid. I’ve always felt he doesn’t get the respect he deserves in the industry. His arcade games were innovative and fun to play at the same time.

Great video I just hope raw thrills puts *online* mode on blast and the rumored HD arcade trilogy switch release theyve hinted at in another interview.

Robotron is the progenitor of Vampire Survivors, the $3 game that is up there with epic Elden Ring as best game of 2022. I only now realize why Vampire Survivors is being so successful.
