Thengo Maloya is one of the veteran politicians in Malawi, served in the Nyasaland African Congress, Malawi Congress Party, United Democratic Front and Democratic Progressive Party. He has served as Cabinet Minister 5 times across the different regimes and also served as a diplomat.
Thengo Maloya was there when the first president of Malawi was being welcomed and he worked closely with Kamuzu Banda. He was around when the infamous Cabinet Crisis of 1960 took place and fled into exile, where he stayed for 30 years - he had all his 8 children while in exile.
He was part of the team that fought against the One Party government from exile and eventually returned to help establish democratic rule.
He is a living encyclopedia and remembers events surrounding the Cabinet Crisis with amazing clarity.
