Nice work, Mike. Concise and straightforward - perfect video to build confidence in anyone who wants to give it a try. However, an absolute must for the RV rookie: Use DISPOSABLE GLOVES for all the black and gray tank work. Trust me.

Mike: just watched your video and am most impressed. We've never rented a RV before and my wife & I are in our early 70's and just retired. We plan to go across country to visit our son in California and then return to WV by a much slower, southern route as we'll be making this trip over Christmas holiday. I've watched the Cruise America videos and yours makes more sense. I have visited the nearest rental agency and toured the 25footer so after watching your video, I feel much more confident. I noticed several comments on the mileage issue and I expect it to be pretty low, as it's a huge vehicle with a lot of weight. Anyway, thanks for a most informative video and we are getting anxious for our trip. Cheers to you & Happy Holidays. Noel

Furnace uses a lot of propane. We would just run the furnace before bed and when getting up. Or you could use a Mr Heater type portable heater. If you are hooked up on utilities you could augment the furnace with an electric space heater. Also the house battery runs down pretty quick. Otherwise they are good sturdy basic RVs. Safe travels.

Great video! We are renting one in two weeks (first timers) and I'm super stoked! Two questions for you: 1 - Didn't you want to wear gloves when draining the tanks? 🤮 Your video is the only one I've seen someone not wear them during that time. 2 - How was the fridge? I read in the CruiseAmerica Renter's Guide that the fridge typically only gets down to the low 60s, which seems pretty useless. Did you have any issues with that? Thanks again!
@RoadTripTravel
@RoadTripTravel 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! No, gloves are not required. I just jumped in the RV and washed my hands when finished. The waste is flushed out by the grey water and the sewage does not get on the outside of the hose. Oh, the fridge and freezer worked excellent on my trip. No issues at all. Thanks for watching. Thank you. Well done. I’d like to know actual space numbers for storage because we’re considering renting an RV to move across the country. Also what if something goes wrong how’s there customer support? How did you compensate for no plug-ins for iPhone or computers and how was internet traveling across country for that matter?
@RoadTripTravel
@RoadTripTravel 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it. We did not use the customer service, but I understand it’s quite good. We had it for three weeks and didn’t have any problems. There is quite a bit of storage available but, that would have a lot to do with how much stuff you have whether it’s enough space or not. You can get a cigarette lighter with a USB, that will do the trick, or you could get a USB battery pack and bring that along with you. Thanks again for watching. Cheers, Mike

Make sure before you leave the lot you not only know how to turn thing's on, but that they also work! I rented one in VA to drive to FL and did not bother to test the heater. When I got to FL. the temp. dropped to below 32 Deg. and it started sleeting, and the heater did not work. Also while driving the smell of sewer gas was so strong you had to drive with the windows down, and yes the tank was empty. I called there 800 for roadside service and they pretty much told me there was nothing they could do about it. I had to buy a portable heater, and some tank treatment. I HATED the toilet layout! It's raised up on a platform and by the time you finished pooping your legs fell asleep. The second time I rented an RV I used RV Share instead. Most often everything you need to cooking, eating, sleeping is included in the price, saving you a ton of money!

Hi Mike, very informative video. Question, do we need to book camping sites if were parking overnight near the sites? Also whats the total costs of your gas?
@RoadTripTravel
@RoadTripTravel Ай бұрын
Thank you Angela! I'm not sure if I understand your question? If you are not parked in a campground and find a safe and secure place to boondock for the night, no, you would not have to pay. Gas of course would depend on how much it is going for. When I did this trip gas was only $2.50gal. A lot more today. I think it has a 50 gal tank and gets about 9-10 mpg. I thought I mentioned that in the video, but today I can't recall. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. Hope you'll check out some of my other videos. Cheers, Mike

Hi! Great vid. So I’m confused on something: When do you use the generator and when do you use the propane? We only get 4 hours I think it is per day to run the generator without enduring more costs upon return. Traveling with 3 adults and 2 children. Staying at campgrounds each night no boondocking for first timers lol. Rented the Large RV. The girls will be on their phones all day when driving (I going to try to keep them occupied doing other things but ...) anyway we are going from hot to cold (Florida to Jersey). So what powers what? Generator does what and when will we use it? Same question with the propane. I appreciate the help!
@RoadTripTravel
@RoadTripTravel 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jennifer…thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it. Happy to help, here are answers to your questions: Propane essentially stays on the entire time. It powers the fridge/freezer 24/7, stove when in use, hot water when in use and the heater when in use. We went over two weeks with 2 people and had plenty to spare. I suspect you will be able to go a week or so with 5 people. You can fill up at a campground like KOA or Good Sam. If you are staying any campgrounds the entire time, you will not need to worry about using the generator, it powers everything not mentioned above, like the A/C, outlets, microwave and lights. If during the day you need to run the outlets or microwave, you would need to use the generator. The lights run off of battery, so you don’t need to use the generator. Since your girls might use their phones all day, I would probably pick up a couple of small back-up batteries so they can keep them charged. At night, when you’re on shore power at the campground, you can charge everything up. Does that answer all of your questions? If not, let me know. Hope you have a wonderful time.

Yes, We ran the fridge/freezer 24/7 off the propane, along with the heater, stove, and water heater for over two weeks. You’ll have no problem for five days. You will need to because of your water usage, but for five days you should be fine if there are only two of you.

Hi Mike, Me and my wife are coming over from the UK and never driven an RV. Do you have any tips, and are they a difficult drive?
@RoadTripTravel
@RoadTripTravel 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your question, and for watching. Have you ever driving left hand/right lane before? I think that will be your biggest challenge. Class C RV's as featured in this video are quite easy to drive after your first day of trepidation. My biggest concern the first time was breaking, but that's not an issue as they units have plenty of breaking power. Overall, not much of a learning curve. Are you familiar with peer-to-peer RV rentals? You may want to look into that as well can compare rates and features. Cruise America has 3 primary RV's for rent and have no frills. Check out this video to learn more. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kN9pZsKgl9bbgnU.html Where will you be traveling? Be sure to check out MikesRoadTrip.com for all kinds of road trip guides and inspiration. Ha, yeah, pretty common term in the States, at least in the RV community. Boondocking is when you find an open area and park/camp for free, but with no hookups (water, sewer or power).
