Cruise Prices Look More Expensive, Infants in Adult Areas

Cruise news today. Starting tomorrow, California’s new “Honest Pricing Law” will require businesses, including cruise lines, to include all mandatory fees in advertised prices. Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald responded to concerns about children in the adults-only Serenity space, particularly regarding a breastfeeding infant. The Amsterdam City Council has announced a target date of 2035 for relocating the cruise terminal from its current city-center location to outside the city. Carnival website says the Serenity area is for adults 21 and over. Taking the baby into this area is wrong and should not have been permitted. Breast feeding is a totally separate item. A wishy washy answer is what causes problems. Either it is a 21 and over location or it is not.

I guess they need to change the sign to Serenity- A QUIET PLACE ON SHIP. Adults want to talk and have full blown conversations, THAT I DON'T WANT TO HEAR. I would rather have an infant that I can't hear.

@@CruiseRadio I have no problem at all with public breast feeding. Its as natural as anything on planet earth. However, its a valid question. Should infants be allowed in the Serenity area? Carnival was definitive in their answer so now we all know.

Carnival has already changed the drink package pricing to include the gratitude. It's much easier to budget things with the upfront pricing.

If I'm in a serenity area, I DON'T want to hear ADULTS talking and carrying on, having full blown conversations and interfering with my time there. I would rather have an infant that's quiet. I totally agree with John Heald. Breastfeeding is 100% different than children in the area and using the whirlpools. I'm sure the mother wanted to get outside and enjoy her time while taking care of her infant. This would never interfere with our using the serenity area. People just have to complain about anything. Would the person prefer seeing the mother in the buffet area breast feeding her child???? I would like to see how that would go over with them. LOL

Thank you for the update concerning prices of cruises. It is much appreciated. It is about time that customers see the REAL prices and not just what the cruise lines want to show and, then surprise, surprise, a few hundreds of dollars appear in the total (and I am not talking only port fees and taxes). This is a good and fair business practice. People need to have a clear picture of what they are paying for, especially cruisers who are new to this market. Enjoy the rest of your day. I don't care about anyone breast feeding anywhere they wish, I do have issue with an infant being in the Serenity area as it is supposed to be adults only. Do they have to take the child somewhere else once they are done?

Gratuities are not included in the advertized rate because they are optional. So early morning is the best time to visit to have them removed so there wont be a wait and nothers wont be around to hear you do it

Good morning Doug! Another clarification on adults and no kids that really should be be looked at again. The mother may certainly breast feed in public, however, the space says adult only. Rule of adult only space was in place before baby was even born. Have a great Sunday.

John Heald said the person complaining wasn’t even on the ship. People under 21 shouldn't be in Serinity area is the point! Breastfeeding in public is not the issue.

Good morning Doug! We were just in Amsterdam on a NCL ship. We moored in Ijmuiden and had about a 45 min commute each way to get into Amsterdam. There was a RC ship moored up in downtown Amsterdam.

This should 100% include gratuities as they are pretty much forced on every guest. Otherwise the new law is shit. At least with the US market people understand that taxes are never included. So that sort of sticker shock isn't as big of a deal compared to forced gratuities. The US is long over due for swapping to a standardized VAT that is to be always included in final pricing.

I think the Serenity area should be adults only. I commend Carnival for their breastfeeding policy, but the mom has plenty of other guiet places on the ship that she can breastfeed her baby.

Doug - wait - a baby is under 21. How can a baby be brought to an adults only area. It’s not public if you exclude anyone. Either Heald’s answer is incomplete or you’re not being clear.

Welllll I agree that the complainer has a point about the woman breastfeeding in the serenity area. It is an adult section of the ship, like said no one under 21. Now if it was a 21 year old having their meal……oh forget it. 🤣 but really it is an adult area I don’t think any child should be in this area as there are plenty of areas available for people of all ages and a mother would have lots of choices of where to feed a baby. Personally I don’t want to see a woman exposing herself while feeding and a towel or something to make it less obvious is appreciated by some of us. We all have our opinions and I’m not saying I am right or wrong, or those that figure full exposure is right or wrong either.

@@JH-ld9jk doesn’t mean I have to agree does it? You sound upset, but that’s your opinion, it is a fact that you have to agree with. The adult area of the ship is restricted to any person under 21 is not permitted, that’s the point of the adult area. I don’t think the passengers on the Serenity deck want to hear kids or for that matter a crying baby, if they do there’s lots of room everywhere else to be with your kids.

The entire point of the Serenity area is to give adults a place to get away from screaming, yelling kids… z allowing infants into Serenity for any reason seems counterintuitive to the main mission of the space.

Some adults are worse than infants and kids. They don't know how to act in a "serenity" area. They make more noise, they talk too much, and some don't respect the others in the area.

Some people have nothing better to do than complain. The idea is that the area should not be overrun by kids jumping in the pools and screaming around the decks. A breastfeeding baby is unlikely to be wreaking havoc!! Heaven forbid a young mother wants to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet herself.

Adults, only, means just that. There's plenty of other non-restricted areas onboard. Even better, nurse the baby in your cabin where you may be more comfortable and no one will be offended. I nursed 3 babies and only nursed in public if it was an emergency and always covered up my baby and breast. I guess modesty is a thing of the past.

I agree that she should not have been in an adult only area, but she should be able to nurse anywhere else guests are allowed. If you don't want to see someone breastfeeding, you have the ability, the obligation, to look away. I nursed 2 while living in Germany (military wife). I am so grateful they treat breastfeeding as a normal part of life.

I would agree. Except the entire reason for the Serenity area is to give adults a place to get away from screaming and yelling children. By opening the door to infants (breastfeeding or not) it erodes the reason that area exists

I don't care about seeing a boob, but seeing a baby in a 21+ area is not right. you're allowed to breast feed anywhere that allows under 21 - go there to feed the baby.
