Thank you for your comments on our BF108 Taifun. We’ve watched your video and wanted to give you some insight into some of the behaviour that you’re experiencing. Our Taifun was made with valued input from type rated pilots who have assisted with some of the defining characteristics they experience in real world operations of the type. The Bf-108 is not an aerobatic aircraft, in more modern times it has been used for some basic aerobatics but is known among its pilots that they can only be performed in specific scenarios as it is not a natural behaviour for the aircraft. To achieve a roll for example you must dive into the manoeuvre and have an entry speed exceeding 150knots and fly a high roll similar to a lazy warbird style else the aircraft loses authority over its control surfaces. The torque roll on the type was quite pronounced and we have left the trim assignments active to assist pilots with longer trips as well as the newly released auto pilot. To help with this we are going to implement an option for setting trim on the ground, similar to how real-world operators do on this and many other types. We value all feedback and thank you for flying the Taifun!

Thank you very much for the feedback iniBuilds! As I tend to state in my videos, unfortunately the best I can do most of the time (when it comes to these more unusual aircraft), is to make an educated guess regarding the flight model etc. I’m quite surprised by the aileron authority issue (I’m genuinely curious to know why being upside-down, reduces aileron effectiveness to that point?), but far be it for me to question those who have actually flown the Taifun haha. I think the ground trim option will be a good one. I would assume (though perhaps I am wrong) that most Bf108 operators would have adjusted the aircraft’s trim tabs for straight and level flight. Even if that isn’t the case, it will make the aircraft more pleasant to fly in the sim. I’ve pinned this comment, so that hopefully viewers can get a more rounded picture of the product (it’s always very helpful when devs can chip-in and give such feedback, so thanks for that!). Cheers and all the best : )

Neuschwanstein was indeed no fortification. It was build by Bavarian King Ludwig II, who was an eccentric hermit, increasingly mentally retreating into a medieval Wagnerian fantasy world as he got older. The Bavarian state eventually had him committed to a mental asylum, where he died under mysterious circumstances. The castle itself is actually only finished on the outside. Inside only a few wings are finished. Ironically nearby Hohenschwangau Castle is a real medieval castle, but few visit it. Keep up the great work!

Thanks very much for the info Daniel, very interesting (you’re a much better tour guide than me haha). I did actually learn that the castle / palace was built by Ludwig II, but then his name completely escaped me as we came overhead XD That other stuff is very interesting though, as I say. It would have been cool to check out Hohenschwangau also then, though I don’t recall that one being modelled in the sim. . . Thanks very much! Will do and all the best : )

Thanks very much DT, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! IniBuilds have stated, that most of the behaviours I encountered during the video are “true to life” of the real-world aircraft, though the dev will apparently be offering an option via the tablet, that allows the user to select whether the rolling tendency is modelled or not (a reasonable concession for the sim I think, otherwise the Taifun just isn’t that pleasant to fly with typical sim hardware). I’m not sure as to whether the product has been updated yet - I haven’t had a chance to look myself. Cheers again and all the best! : )

Thank you very much sir, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! Very high praise indeed and much appreciated haha - it’s always great to hear that someone is enjoying the content. I do verrrry occasionally do group flights, but we’re only taking about 1 a year roughly haha. Partly it’s a time issue - I generally don’t have the time to organise these things, but also there seems to be very limited appetite for such events (usually I can only string together a handful of participants at best). I do have a “group flights” sever on my Discord, so it’s worth keeping an eye out there and I’m sure I will organise something before the end of the year haha. The channel membership is really just there for those that are interested, though there are some associated “benefits”, including an early-access video playlist, a private Discord “lounge” and the occasional private post / update etc. Thanks very much once again and all the best! : )

nice review. picked this up a couple of weeks ago. noticed it loads up default fairly heavy at 77% payload with the CG back towards the AFT limit. by reducing the weight, the CG improves which helps with the FM. the constant leaning left is improved but still need to watch , I have right aileron trim to a joystick button and seems to do the trick . overall I dont regret the purchase but probably dont fly it as much as I would like

Hi Damon, Thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I did actually custom load the aircraft ahead of the flight; just 2 in the front and a small amount of luggage down the back. I have heard that aileron trim does the trick on the Bf108 (I only tried rudder trim), so I shall have to give that a go. I don’t regret my purchase either, but given the number / quality of addons we have available to us now within the sim, I can’t see that the Taifun is going to be garnering much of my attention (sadly). Cheers and all the best! : )

The FM on this is *awful*, if you get past all the artificial stability jammed in to make it remotely usable it's still all over the place - and it's also hopeless in a crosswind, so I don't know how they missed that. The model is pretty nice, I think the textures are far too shiny & could do with some wear, but not any massive complaints there. I can't fly it though, it's just nasty.

7kt is a fair bit if the wind isn't directly abeam, I'd be surprised if the model could handle even that.

Haha, I don’t think that’s entirely unfair RD XD The Taifun is one of those aircraft that just looks like it would be a joy to fly and sadly that’s just so far from being the case currently (I wasn’t kidding, when I said I had a stiff arm / back at the end of the flight haha). Now of course, looks aren’t everything and it may well be that the aircraft had its vices, but one doesn’t need to be have been born in the 1910’s and be called Hans, to know that the flight model has some very strange behaviours currently. I’d like to think that iniBuilds will continue to work on the Bf108, but if the P-40 is anything to go by, we aren’t going to be getting any drastic updates, sadly. . . Thanks for your thoughts. All the best! : )

@@IntotheBlueSimulations I've read some flight tests since ( sadly no flight tests with data yet ) and they all paint a picture of a pretty sporty aircraft with some good handling, but of it's time. It does not have a constant speed prop ( I can't remember if the ini one does ), and it has some squishy landing gear which I think they made an attempt at. There was a note somewhere about some rather interesting ground handling. If I could find a flight test from the RAE or NACA with some instrument traces then I'd have a go at it, but there's little to start with unlike say, the FI Spitfire which is bang on in a lot of areas already.

@@CCitis Yeah, it's very stiff/overstable, which not only makes it horrid in turbulence but harder and less entertaining to fly than it should be. Thank you for the detailed look at the plane! In my experience, Messerschmitts are rarely a pleasure to fly in simulations (exciting, but not pleasant) - but I thought this one would be a bit of an exception, having a pretty docile reputation as a tourer and all. I think I will wait on buying this one in the end - the flight model does sound like it needs some work. The aerobatic issues I can overlook, but it was good to hear your thoughts on it as a touring aircraft, because that was the main reason I was considering it.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Жыл бұрын
You’re most welcome Otohikoamv! Haha, well I haven’t flown too many virtual Messerschmitts previously, though I did spend quite a bit of time with the 109 in DCS and that thing was rather special (somehow, the feeling of flight in that thing, was just above and beyond most other virtual aircraft - especially in VR!). I don’t tend to do much in the way of aerobatics outside of my reviews and was really looking forward to picking up the 108 as a tourer also. To add to my findings during the review, apparently one can bind hardware to the aileron trim function and use that to null out the left wing down tendency (though that sounds like a bit of a workaround to me). Even then though, the pitchiness of the FM etc, does not make the Taifun particularly relaxing / enjoyable to fly (sadly). I wasn’t kidding when I said I had a stiff arm / back by the end of the flight - getting old sucks haha! XD I’m glad the review was useful at any rate. Hopefully iniBuilds will continue to work on the aircraft. Cheers and all the best! : )
@otohikoamv
@otohikoamv Жыл бұрын
Haha, I can relate! I was doing a bit of touring with the Ant's Aeroplanes Tiger Moth under the previous sim update, and also got a sore arm, especially in turbulence. It's gotten a little easier with the reduced turbulence settings in the latest sim update, but it can still be a handful. Granted, sometimes that's exactly what an aircraft needs to be (vintage helicopter or glider flying would be very strange if it didn't require a lot of input all the time!) - but something just feels off about 108 flying like that. So I'm still on the lookout for a more perfect 1930s (non-US-built) tourer. And no disrespect meant to the 109 (and the 110, and the 262) - I really have a soft spot for them as well, and they are rewarding to learn and fly. I agree that the DCS 109 is a spectacular plane, too. But they tend to be very unforgiving - I've snapped more virtual wings, gear struts, and other parts off Messerschmitts than any other airplanes over the years. 109s can be very nasty at the edges of their flight envelope, and consistently one of the hardest (simulated) planes to handle landing and on the ground in general. And being the energy fighter they are, they also take a lot of mental load to fight in compared to more of a classic turning fighter. So, they can be very nasty to fly, especially starting out, but very satisfying to get proficient in. Just not my first choice for a relaxing, scenic flight, that's for sure :)
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Жыл бұрын
Haha, I took the Tiger Moth on a bit of a trek around the Alps on one occasion, the flight became more of a chore than anything; having to constantly counter turbulence and search high / low for some ridge lift, in order to make it into the next valley. I think I’ll stick the rolling hills of England next time XD As much as I love the 109 in DCS, I never was much good at fighting with it. I think I played too many early generation flight sims and now all my brain can compute is a turning fight haha (I just don’t have the discipline to keep my speed up in an energy fight - I really should practice that. . .). Cheers once again! : )

I really like the Taifun. Sure it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of more detailed aircraft, but for the price it's fine. As for the keeping the wings level: the keyboard binds for aileron trim still work, even if the aircraft has no actual aileron trim. It's a bit of cheat, but since we never have the controls of the actual aircraft at our disposal, I think it's an acceptable compromise. 😉 Also, most aircraft should come pretimmed for the usual cruise settings, so it's not our fault if the mechanics didn't do their job right! 😄

Haha, well most of my feedback for these sort of aircraft is an “educated guess” in fairness. Of course, it’s very hard to know how such a machine may have flown, especially when I haven’t really flown anything similar. That being said, most aircraft have certain similarities from one to the next and it’s usually apparent when something is “off”. The older the aircraft, the harder it is to really offer up any concrete critique though, as older aircraft did quite often have unusual flying characteristics, vices etc. iniBuilds actually left some informative feedback in the comments section. I’m not sure it 100% excuses the flight model, but it’s certainly very constructive and well worth a read. Like you, I certainly enjoy these sorts of vintage birds though! Cheers Gary : )

Haha! You should know better than that by now, Roland : P In fairness, I don’t think anybody wants to wait a couple of weeks to find out whether or not a product is any good, hence why I made this a flight as much as a review. Making reviews is a funny thing though; a lot of people seem to watch them retrospectively (even when I get the video out the same day), which I would have thought renders the content rather useless, but if people are watching, who am I to complain haha! XD I really hope the FM gets some more care and attention, the Bf108 is otherwise a wonderful looking / sounding machine as you say. Flight models don’t seem to have been iniBuilds strong point in MSFS to date. . . Cheers once again! : )

Great route! I would love to fly it. I couldn't make out the airfields. Sounded like Pussy and St Josef. Could you give us the ID for the airfields, please.

Hello again Michael, Thanks very much, I’m really glad you enjoyed the route! The airfield ID’s are available in the video description (I try to include them there, when I remember haha). Departure was out of Füssen (EDGD) and arrival was into St Johann (LOIJ) - I tracked via Innsbruck (LOWI). Please just note, that the St Johann scenery is not native to the sim, it was a freeware scenery that I downloaded from Flightsim.to. I hope that helps. Cheers, happy flying and all the best! : )

My usal question, Does it come with a working radio ?
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Жыл бұрын
Hi Jo, It does. There is an option (via the onboard tablet) to select a more modern avionics setup, which includes a com radio, transponder etc. I hope that clarifies things. All the best! : )

Great stuff Guilherme! As Jeremy points out, there’s a superb improvement mod for the Beech 18, well worth checking out (if you haven’t tried it yourself already). Either way, enjoy the flight! : )

I stopped flying and uninstalled their A310. Not only is it an absolute nightmare when it comes to fps, that widebody huge airliner is more sensitive on the rudder than the 1000 lb Zenith 701 from SWS lol. Looks like they still haven't figured out how to make planes that handle more reasonably.

Hello David, I enjoy the A310, for its retro systems if nothing else, but I agree that even after the update, it’s pretty FPS hungry and the flight model feels strange in a couple of areas. I have to say, given how much praise there is for iniBuilds efforts in X-Plane, I was expecting slightly more from them in MSFS, specifically with regards to flight models (otherwise, they make some very nice products). Cheers, all the best! : )

Hi Barrett, The RT effect is something I add during editing, using a program called Audacity. The effect can’t be created “on the fly”, so far as I’m aware, but I’d be happy to outline the details behind how to create it, should you so wish. Cheers and all the best! : )

Hi Barrett, I actually made a short video (for someone else) regarding the technique. Feel free to give it a watch: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j7SZf5hosMjNYqc.html Just be advised, I’ll be taking the video down in the coming days (so better to watch it sooner, rather than later). I hope that helps! Cheers : )

You can tell how twitchy the controls are just by watching! It doesn't seem very accurate. Part of me wonders how much of that has to do with MSFS though.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Жыл бұрын
I’d say it’s a bit of both KAP; MSFS has twitchy handling characteristics at the best of times, but with the Bf108, this twitchiness is more pronounced still. I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best! : )

Nice but....there are too many aircrafts on the market, it is positive, but we cannot buy everything, because then we have no time to fly all of them...😂😂

Haha, it’s certainly a fair point Antonio! There are a large number of quality addons now available for the sim, so addons such as this, do somewhat struggle for a seat at the table (with a better flight model, the Bf108 would have been a great addon though). Cheers, all the best! : )

Does the window being open affect the roll tendency to the left? Noticed you had it open the whole flight.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Жыл бұрын
Haha, a very good point Chris! Admittedly, I didn’t consider that at the time, though I don’t believe that was the case / such drag is modelled. Others have reported that aileron trim can be used to null out the left rolling tendency (a hardware binding will need to be assigned though, since no such control exists on the aircraft). I gather iniBuilds are going to update the aircraft and allow users to choose whether or not the flight model displays the left wing heavy behaviour. This makes sense, as I would imagine in reality, a fixed trim tab would have been adjusted for level flight in the cruise. Thanks for your thoughts! All the best : )
