You know, if anybody has had good character development overtime besides Naofumi, it's the Blacksmith here. He didn't like the Shield Hero at first, but then he met Naofumi. He didn't trust demi-humans at first, and then he met Raphtalia. Now he treats them as equals and with respect. He's a bit underlooked, especially given certain things about him like his level.

For those finding it stupid that naofumi doesnt see her Grown Up Will understand in the next episode. SPOILERRRRRS !!!!! he was so affected by what happened at the beginning that he has some kind of mental breakdown. He cant taste food anymore nor can he see that raphtalia as she is right now, he still sees her as the young version in His eyes. Let's just Say that when he finds out, It is one of the best scene and the founding of their relationship.

Technically she is a tanuki (demi-human). Tanuki (or "Raccoon Dogs") are not actually related to raccoons. They're members of the Canid family. Their closest relatives are foxes and other canids like dogs, wolves, coyotes, jackals, dingos, and maned wolves.

And yes, her growing as a person is the point of her character, but throughout the entire episode, the shield hero himself is berating people, calling them lolicons, for salivating over her, so yeah, a ten year old suddenly getting a woman's body is *PRETTY FUCKING WEIRD* to put it mildly, that doesn't mean it can't work as a story.

If I had to convert every character into their purpose in the show Naofumi would be the protagonist Malty,three heroes church and the king would be the obstacles And Raphtalia would be a rock. Raphtalia's purpose is to come back from a low place and help the guy who helped her out of the low place out of the low place. But when you see the story unfold you get really attached to everyone but the king, Malty and the three heroes church.

I have two theories: 1: her shirt was really long on her when he first got her, and now it seems to fit better, so maybe she just grew into it. 2: He might have just bought her new clothes if she seemed to be outgrowing the old ones. He clearly cares for her basic needs, so it seems pretty likely.

I'm not sure if it's the translation or just the direction they chose, but the manga had his armor being made with parts he found. It's main feature was it could be upgraded with items he found, and the main perk was they didn't have to explain him wearing the same armor.

Maybe the twist would be better if Raphtalia still looked like a kid and she looked grown up after the fight with the Spear Hero and she was comforting him. Then we would be asking why Raphtalia is acting so much older and be in the Shield Hero's shoes, only seeing Raphtalia as a kid while everyone else sees her as an adult. Instead of us just asking how did she grow up so fast for nearly two episodes.
