In fact, even after Raphtalia somewhat cured his delusions about all the people around him, he still is unable to discern how others feel about him. His interactions are not driven by emotion, but by rationality ("He/She did all this stuff for me, that must mean that he/she somewhat likes me"). That's why he took to L'arc so fast, he was incredibly blunt about everything. No need to discern emotions when the guy literally tells you how he feels. Now, I could go on, but we would be entering spoiler territory for up to volume 15, so, I won't do that.

The fact that Raphtalia seems to show no ill will towards him despite constantly being bought and sold by him (Naofumi is her fourth owner and the fat, blonde bastard was her third) shows that he doesn't even treat the slaves harshly either. Seems to give them just the most basic necessities without harming them.
