I like Crush 40 because they haven't went the way modern music has went. They've kept the same style since 1997 and I love that. They didn't start writing love songs left right and center, and the odd ones they have wrote haven't been anything like the modern ones and are amazing. No matter what song Crush 40 make, you can pretty much guarantee it'll be awesome!

Hrag Avakian *WARNING: I'M GOING FAN MODE HERE. NOT ONLY SHOULD YOU PLEASE CORRECT ANY INFORMATION YOU TRULY KNOW IS INCORRECT, BUT ALSO FORGIVE ME IF I SOUND RUDE. THANK YOU.* I thought so too, but no. They started in 1997 with Sons Of Angels. They changed their name because an old Norwegian band got back together. To avoid confusion they changed their name to Crush 40. Not sure where Sons Of Angels came from (I might look that up eventually), but Crush 40 according to several sources comes from Johnny Gioeli, the lead singer, not wanting to turn 40, so he was "Crushing 40", and Jun Senoue, the lead guitarist, liking Crush Soda. From what I know, Sons Of Angels never released _any_ songs under that title except in Japan. Their first and only album was called "Thrill of the Feel", and was released under SEGA Wavemaster Records I believe in 2000. Here's the long and short of it: Johnny worked with Whitesnake I believe sometime around the 90s (not exactly sure when, but this is 100% true, it's on the Crush 40 website, crush40.net). This is how Jun, the sound director for SEGA since Dark Wizard/Sonic The Hedgehog 3, got in contact with Jun. Jun Senoue and Johnny then proceeded to write music for the game "NASCAR Arcade". I believe all the songs from the "Thrill of the Feel" Album was in NASCAR Arcade, *EXCEPT* for "Open Your Heart" from Sonic Adventure. SA1 was released in _1998_, not 1999. This is called a "Bonus Track" in the album. I have never actually played any NASCAR games, let alone NASCAR arcade, but the music from that album suits racing games. Maybe that's why they were such a good fit for the Sonic series. So, Jun and Johnny preformed "Open Your Heart" for Sonic Adventure. NASCAR Arcade was released in 2000, but I believe the music was written/composed/etc around 1997/1998. I read this in 4 different places, but I don't have the links handy. I believe one of them was a Sonic fan website, but I don't think it was the Sonic Wikia/Sonic News Network, sadly. "Thrill of the Feel" contained many MANY awesome songs, such as "Into The Wind", "Revvin' Up", an *_AWESOME_* version of "Dangerous Ground", and many more! Crush 40 changed to their current name in 2003, and did so with the release of their 2003 self-titled album, "Crush 40". This contained a different version of "Open Your Heart". This time not classed as a Bonus Track. It also contained the SA2 or "original" version of "Live and Learn", not the remastered version in their 2009 album "The Best Of Crush 40 - Super Sonic Songs". It is also important to note that each time Crush 40 have released a version of "Open Your Heart", they have been slightly different from each other. The "Thrill Of The Feel" version has a longer intro by about 2-3 seconds, but the "Crush 40" version has a longer ending to make up for this. Subtle differences but you can hear the "Crush 40" version fade in a little more. The 2009 "The Best Of Crush 40 - Super Sonic Songs" version is very different. The song is in stereo a lot more. It uses the same intro as the "Crush 40" version. The "thunder, rain and lighting" parts have a sort of "radio" filter on them. The ending was completely cut and ends just like it does in the intro for SA1. There is more of an echo on some parts too. I think there might even be more drums/symbols too, but I can't be sure on that. During the intro, Johnny says "ALL RIGHT!". At the end, he says "Open Your Heart! Yeah!" instead of just "Open Your Heart!". How do I know this? I have listened to these songs A LOT XD The "Crush 40" album also contained all the songs that feature Johnny's singing from "Thrill of the Feel", as that album has some just melodies (IE Rush into the Crazy World). I didn't enjoy those, and I believe they were from NASCAR Arcade. The "Crush 40" album also included "Escape From The City", which was from Sonic Adventure 2. I'm not sure why they decided to include that. I'm guessing because it was quite popular and iconic to SA2, and Jun of course played the guitar for it, as he did in every other stage/melody/what have you that featured guitar in SA2 (IE This Way Out for Prison Lane, Wont Stop, Just Go for Green Forest, That's the way I like It for Metal Harbor, Vengeance is Mine for Radical Highway, Still Invincible Don't Care, Hey you!! It's time to speed up again!!! and so on). Of course, Crush 40 have proceeded to release "The Best Of Crush 40 - Super Sonic Songs" in 2009, as I have already mentioned, which featured: • I Am... All Of Me (New Mix For This Release) • His World (New Mix For This Release) • Un-gravitify (Previously Unreleased. New Recording For This Release) • All Hail Shadow • Never Turn Back • Revvin Up • Into The Wind • Watch Me Fly • Fire Woman (Previously Unreleased. New Recording For This Release) • Sonic Heroes • What I'm Made Of • Live Life • Knight Of The Wind (New Mix For This Release) • Live & Learn • Open Your Heart (New Mix For This Release) • Is It You (Previously Unreleased. New Recording For This Release) Some of these songs, such as Live Life and Live & Learn, do have different versions in this album. The reason being they were remixed and release as singles for the 2008 album "True Blue - The Best Of Sonic The Hedgehog". This featured a remix of Live & Learn, the same remix featured in this 2009 album. "True Blue" was in 2 parts, and one part was released 2008, the other in 2009. It featured over 40-50 songs I believe, all from artists such as Bentley Jones (he remixed Open Your Heart completely in that album) to Steve Conte (Singer of "Seven Rings In Hand" for Sonic and The Secret Rings in 2007. This album as a side note also contained a version of Crush 40 singing "Seven Rings In Hand" which I hated at first but have grown to like a bit. They created this with Bentley Jones but it still has that rock feel and not a remix feel). The version of "Live & Learn" that we are currently talking about is called the "2007" version. This is most likely due to it being recorded and such in 2007, but the album being released in 2008. Live Life on the other hand was released differently because the version on this album *_IS_* the original. The version released on the OST for Sonic and The Black Knight, Face To Faith, cuts out the 20 second intro at the start which has some small guitar but mainly violin. I find that part beautiful, so it's good they released the original and put it on their Best-Of album. Then their 2012 EP (Extended Play) "Rise Again", which contained 4 songs: • One Of Those Days • Rise Again • Song Of Hope^ • Sonic Youth As for the "^" beside "Song Of Hope": This song was released in 2011 as a charity song for the Tsunami victims in Japan. Crush 40 sold it on iTunes for 69p/whatever currency you use wherever anyone who happens to be reading this from. Of course not all the profits went to the victims. iTunes took a cut I believe. But Crush 40 didn't make a single penny from that song as a single. I believe every other song except for Song Of Hope and One Of Those Days were preformed live at certain places in Japan, but I am not 100% sure on this My reason behind thinking this is because in the 2012 live album called "Crush 40 Live!" (with the !), they preform Sonic Youth and Rise Again with no comment. Then, when they preform "One Of Those Days", Johnny says "Brand new. This is called 'One of those Days'!", so I'm not exactly sure. He also asks the audience (as he usually does) to sing along, yet he says it's brand new. Maybe the album was just released, maybe Rise Again or Sonic Youth were released as singles/preformed before that concert at some point. Crush 40 do a lot of live shows. A LOT of live shows. They just did a live show back in March this year (where they preformed Dangerous Ground for the first time ever I believe. Jun told me they preformed it there via Twitter), so maybe they did preform it at some point before the live album. I believe they preformed live before that album. That album is all from one night though, because if you listen to every song one after the other in order for the 58 minutes it goes on for, you'll hear that it flows PERFECTLY from one song to the other. After their EP, they preformed their Live album, which contained: • Sonic Youth • Free • His World • Sonic Heroes • Open Your Heart • Knight of the Wind • I Am... All Of Me • With Me • Never Turn Back • Fire Woman • Revvin Up • Watch Me Fly • Into The Wind • Rise Again • Sonic Boom^ • All Hail Shadow • Live & Learn • One Of Those Days • What I'm Made Of ^Sonic Boom was released in 2010 to celebrate a Sonic anniversary. If you don't already know, Sonic Boom was a game created in 1993, and the theme was called "Sonic Boom". Crush 40 and Cash Cash (I assume it was Cash Cash because they were the most recent band to preform music for SEGA; the theme for Sonic Colors/Colours called "Reach For The Stars") got together and remixed that song. Pretty awesome mix. That's all the Crush 40 trivia and more for you! All these albums (except for "Thrill of the Feel" I believe) you can buy on iTunes right now if you don't own them already! Have a great day!

sonic2kk Crush 40 started in August or September 1998, not 1997. In fact they weren't planning to turn it into a band, Johnny was just a guest vocalist. They changed their name in 2001, not 2003 (SA2 released in 2001 and band was already credited as Crush 40). Sonic Boom was released in 2011. And I dunno what kind of version of Face to Faith you have but mine Live Life on that album is identical to "The Best of..." version (with that violin intro you were talking about, and I'm not sure but I think the mix itself is the same too).

I wouldn't say "replaced." Crush 40 DID do a remix of Open Your Heart for Sonic Generations. Not to mention Jun Senoue, the lead guitarist of Crush 40, is the sound director for the games.

Such a nostalgic feeling to hear these guys making songs... I know this song isn't that new, but this is the first time I've listened to it properly. I'd love to see Crush 40 return for a Sonic game, they suit the games so well. :)
