I asked my wife to answer this question. She has never seen a GMAT question in her life. She picked the correct answer, and was even able to tell me WHY, just like the instructor. I fell for D, unfortunately. My wife is much smarter!

LOL. Good for you man marrying well Right? And since your wife is smart, clearly she also must have picked a good husband ;-) P.S. We have had a few cases of husband starting to study for the GMAT and then their spouse join in and often (not always) the other person who did not even consider applying/taking the GMAT has done as well/better in their apps. Airline De-Regulation Question : Ans. Choice B Can actually be correct if you apply this thinking : Since more airplanes are there, it is anyway required to increase # of landing & take-off slots !! And Choice A is incorrect like others because, Bad-Weather is not new phenomenon post De-Regulation, and air-traffic control equipment could already have been taxed prior to de-regulation.

Hey Marty, thanks for the explanation!! About the last question in critical reasoning. Even I was stuck between choice C and D but eventually chose the answer C but my logic was that it had mentioned the word "accessible" and the passages conclusion had the line "'easier to reach" Does it count? Or is it illogical?

Since "accessible" and "easier to reach" have similar meanings, choice (C) and it's logical to decide that the conclusion of the argument and choice (C) are about the same topic. At the same time, the simple fact that the topic of choice (C) is similar to the topic of the conclusion isn't a strong reason to choose (C). To reliably get CR questions correct, you need to go beyond considering the topics of choices to considering the logical implications of choices.

I believe that Marty is wrong on the Longview CR question ( 1:44:00 ). The correct answer is C. The questions states "Which of the following is an *assumption* on which *the support* for the board member's *conclusion* depends?" Marty is trying to find the assumption for the conclusion, not the assumption for the support to the conclusion. The support is clear; it states that administrators *noticing* drug use increase correlates (in a causative manner) to the decrease in grades. Now that we are answering the question that is actually asked we can quickly eliminate A, D, E as these are in no way related to *the support*. Between B and C the answer is C - the passage clearly assumes that *noticing a drug use increase* = *drug use increase*. Students not being able to hide this drug use falls directly in line with the assumption (since this means administrators are not simply becoming more alert - there is indeed an increase in drug use). The support may also assume that no other variables are creating this false correlation, but answer B does not satisfy this assumption, given it requires us to additionally assume that a specific change in the curriculum would result in worse grades.

@@martymurray6756 Yes, clearly by process of elimination B is the correct answer. This said, I'm always very doubtful of answer choices that seem too specific or that potentially require other assumptions to be valid.

Hey, I didn’t understand why the answer in CR’s Longview Prep Board Member question isn’t D. Isn’t he assuming that TFR sessions wouldn’t be effective, that’s why drug use reduction is the only way out?

@@martymurray6756 But then wouldn't it rely on the fact that the curriculum hasn't changed? The argument states that reducing drug use would improve scores, not that it is the sole reason for the drop. It might imply that it is the biggest one, but wouldn't answer B just count as "alternative"?

"Whereas" connects 2 clauses that don't have to be matched. the clauses can be different. a it= energy of france WRONG COMPARISON b energy compared to Germany. WRONG c CORRECT. (I assumed that the sequence has to be same= WRONG ASSUMPTION) d 33% of the energy of france *produced in france* comes from nuclear power in germany. WRONG e "where" , 33% of WHAT?

1:53:00 / 3:01:39 CR Q 3 USE ARROWS Confused between c and d. ALTHOUGH, Gmat doesnt like options in something is successful (a plan) in other cities. Because logically, just because something is successful in one area doesn't mean and doesn't imply that it will in another. Part vs Whole logic. But this is an exception q. BE CAUTIOUS IS ALL. c CORRECT d " than under the plan" Comparing plan with itself. if we have restrictions ie everybody driving in their own lane than that would BE EVEN BETTER than normal plan. plan+caveat better than plan. HENCE WRONG. NOT SUPPORTING THE CONCLUSION. It is talking about a hypothetical.

ANS=B. CORRECT something else did not cause the averages of test scores to go down. only drug use did. my ans=D WRONG. TRAP. (A weakener NOT THE ASSUMPTION/this is just an alternate way to increase average of scores BUT THAT IS NOT THE ASSUMPTION OF THE ARGUMENT) "would" = even if test review sessions are effective, the drug use argument is not being addressed. GO TO STIMULUS: conclusion's assumption is not D

WRONG. elephant cannot be the example of income distn b the elephant, ......, WRONG meaning clarity. zoo elephant NOT ANY RANDOM ELEPHANT c d same as a. elephant cant be example. e same as a. elephant cant be example.
