I don't think it's that bad in a live game against a bad player... except the river. Could have bet smaller turn to just go for value with a smaller bet river to get called by a king (or aces with the Ah?) or maybe bigger to jam for pot on the river if my opponent calls too much.

The only way to play this hand worse is to bet fold the river instead of check fold. Also I think a good line out of position when calling a raise and especially multi way is to just check all flops when first to act, check the nuts check the royal check quads check your draws check top pair check rags that missed and then nobody can ever know what you have and you can react to what others do instead of the opposite

It's amazing how people don't understand that it's ok going broke in spots. This was a trivial call even if you think that you're beaten because there are too many times where in live poker someone will be value owning themselves with a King. If he has a boat he has a boat. One reason I don't like taking these passive lines from out of position is because of how weird it makes it on monotone boards. What offsuit Ah do we have here? Do we have anything at all? Are we double flatting, like, AQo? If so, basically our only natural flop bluff is AhQx. Everything else either wants to get to showdown (Kx and underpairs like JJ-77) wants to bet for value (flushes, sets) or wants to give up (unmade hands with no heart). So really the hands that want to force money into the pot are quite polarized here. It's AhQx, flushes and sets. When you bet small, you are making it very easy for opponent to just continue whenever he has something. That's not what you want - put him in a tough spot by check-raising, and now he has to decide what he wants to do with a strong hand that can't improve like AK no heart or a strong-looking but dubious draw like AhQx.
@goodsuggestionbutno6783
@goodsuggestionbutno6783 Жыл бұрын
If this hand is played normally, all the chips should be in the middle by the turn. I know the BB is aggressive, but theres not many natural full houses that matches any 3-bet squeeze range. Pocket 4s and 6s is most Likely just calling, K6 and K4? Nah… dont think so. Pocket Ks? Only one combo. At the river you are blocking full houses with Your J as well. Cant really fold there either. Better flushes? Hard to have that too. Must-call that all in boy.
@adamshort2534
@adamshort2534 Жыл бұрын
@@goodsuggestionbutno6783 Exactly. After flop check-raise, turn is an easy jam. Villain's AK and all his AhXx hands are in hell. Any semi-strong king like KQ no heart needs to fold but can villain lay down such a hand knowing I could have the stiff ace of hearts myself? These kinds of tough spots are where weak players make big errors and increase our profits. If you like your hand out of position, force money into the pot. Don't wait. Nothing good is going to happen by waiting in most situations OOP.

And basically no logical boats. He could have the one combo of kings or the one combo of KJ suited. The opponent played it horrendously if he has 4s or 6s and probably shouldn't have just flatted the lead and the turn bet with the nut flush. I know the opponent is probably just bad, but there's no logical way we're beat except two combos.

I think a very possible hand could be AK with the A of hearts. If he's a maniac I wouldn't put it pass him to make his hand into a semi bluff if he felt that his opponent flush is not that strong. And it would make sense if he feels that hero is prepared to check call almost all bet, then the only bet that would make sense for him would be to shove. He 3 bet pre. Yes maybe he is targeting the hero as maybe he felt him being a weak player, but he also has to deal with the initial raiser. So I doubt he would always 3 bet any 2 cards

Here's the big problem with donkbets in general; they tend to make better hands call and worse hands fold. In this situation it's irrelevant that he can get value from worse, because from villains POV he can only call with a worse hand, so when he calls these donkbets he's basically capping his range to draws and TP. These are all hands that would play aggressively at hero if hero had tried to trap and thus win hero a big pot. Donkbetting is also terribly unbalanced because too often you give your opponent a means to play perfectly against you. He can simply run you down, set his own trap or give up. Neither of these scenarios fare well for hero no matter he has. Hero never has FE when he does this so you also lose crucial bluffing opportunities such as check-raising with a draw.
@captzachevil
@captzachevil Жыл бұрын
I would definitely agree with the idea that donk betting in general allows the opponent to simply play better vs you. There are exceptions but I think most players add it as a tool because they think it's fancy but in practice is just makes them even easier to read than they think it does. (I also think this is a really good example of that because I do think it's very likely hero got pushed off a better hand.)

I hate the river check fold, it screams scared money/trying to lock up a win/monsters under the bed syndrome. All the reasons why hero should call river: V is agro and 3betting a lot, and V in the BB should widen his range. V just called flop rather than raising the weak lead which he might do if he had a hand like 66. V could have AhKx here which would make sense for him to value own himself thinking he’s up against KQ or KT. V could be value owning himself with a lower flopped flush such as 87hh or T9hh. V could be bluffing AhQx, AhTx. Hero blocks a lot of hands like KJ, JJ as well as some nut flushes. If I’m checking this river it’s to call. However given the donk lead line I would have liked caller to lead again, something like 500 and call a river raise. Vs final comment of “we’ll never know” is the kind of thing a person who just bluffed would say 😉

For sure, but you gotta know that its a double bluff fake out spot, if you actually work with live reads effectively it's a super strong move. I'd only ever do it in this spot if I'm leaning towards a call cos I wouldn't want villains to know I made such a strong fold but definitely made some crazy calls and folds based on live tells, specifically involving showing my hand. (Home Games only, in my state casino hand is dead if you show like this [because it's to elicit a reaction!!])
@AT-bw4cm
@AT-bw4cm Жыл бұрын
I've showed pocket 99 in a 3bet pot. It was an overpair to the flop and I folded on the flop and then showed to get a reaction. Villian was a beginning player and a supernit so I knew I made a good fold. Some hands later I got in a hand with a different player and I called a river allin with pocket 4 beating his A high. I had only been player maybe 30 min. and knew villian could act on my perceived willingness to overfold. He also seemed to have a physical tell which weighted me towards calling. This was showing my hand after the hand was over which is different than showing during the hand for a reaction which has become poor edicate. I see it mostly like in this caller's example after they have tanked for a very long time to prove why they need to take so long more than trying to get a reaction. If your opponent has a propensity for physical tells, you can get the same information by cutting out your chips and look like your going to make a call and watch their reaction.

Why bet 2 streets to check on what should be a blank on the river? What does he really think bets him here the way the had played out? Can't be AKh Kh on the board. KJ isn't likely as he has a J blocker. The only thing that has him are small pocket pair that flopped a set that doesn't raise on the flop or A10h. Given the pot size if the guy had 6's full he just has to take my money.

@James Bell Checking the river only makes sense if you are fully prepared to call any bet. Otherwise you have shown incredible strength the entire hand why stop betting. If you were going to start playing just to defend you should have done it when the board paired on the turn.

You need to call, this is a massive pot at this point. If he flop the nuts flush, he would have raised at some point before the river

Stopped at 12:00. Oddly played hand, as stated, and you gave how you see foe, but here, your River action is more about how foe sees YOU. For example, have you folded to large raises when you didn't have the nuts? Plus, why would 66 or 44 not raise you on the Turn, then jam the River? As played, I call, because the only hand that foe has that makes sense is KJ, and even that why jam as opposed to a smaller size more likely to get called. It's seems like he's turning his hand into a bluff and playing toward your tendencies rather than your hand vs his hand strength.

4:40 when Bart mentioned the back raise preflop I felt a sense of pride that I’d thought about it. If you’ve got some fish from MP that’s always opening and an aggro BB that’s always 3-betting then it seems like a great line.

Oof this hand... So many things to just blink your eyes at... but checking the river after two donk leads... how do you expect to face anything other than a large bet after doing that? And folding is just criminal... ... this hand... what is this hand?!

I'm newer but I'm not sure I understand the logic here. EDIT: I'm referring to the preflop action here. If I'm facing a bet and I'm next to last to act, and I know the next player is likely to raise me, and I would otherwise want to raise, but a 4-bet might price me out of the pot, what's wrong with calling as the caller did, and essentially letting the next player raise on my behalf with a 3-bet? Yes, I'm offering him a cheaper price by not raising, which is why (I think) you wouldn't normally flat here, but if we assume next to act will always raise, then I'm not sure what's wrong with OP's approach.

There are too many wrongs here. Lol 1) this hand is good to fold without contemplating what BB might do or not do. 2) if SB wants to enter the pot ANYWAY, and knows BB is going to 3bet, then it is only a good move to 3bet himself!! Why? BB might: a) folded. B) just called C) 4bet - then SB must fold (or shove 😂) 3) calling with this hand while OOP is bad move. Cuz most of the time SB will be humiliated. That's why calling here in any case! makes no sense in my books, anyway. . To answer your Q direcrly: Bart (vehemently) disagreed that SB should called if he knew BB would've raised and strongly advised a fold. I don't think it's a good advise, depending on what SB WANTS to do with his hand (JQs). See my comment above. Like I said: the hand is to fold, however, it is playable (not a garbage) depending on personal preferance. I respect Caller's choice (even though I disagreed with). Hope this helps.

Someone else to 3bet on your behalf?? I can see that useful only if you're holding AA. In ALL other situations, it's damaging.
