My understanding is that after Kai and Nya were born both Ray and Maya lost their elemental powers however they should have still been able to defeat Krux.

Ray and Maya could’ve been powerless at the time, since parents gradually loose their powers once they have kids

i think that kais line of "are we destined to become evil too" is something that can be also related to cycles of abuse? a lot of people who had abusive in any way shape or form parents have a worry that if they ever have kids/become parents that theyll be like their parents, that theyre "destined to be evil" not entirely comparable but it adds more reason as to why kai would worry about that

I will never understand people who say it's the bad season. What that season doesn't have that every other had? It has our favourite characters, villains, plot, intro, battles, finale. There's no any little thing that is worse than any other season. I watch this season just like I watch fan-favourite seasons (S4,5,8). There's no difference, nowhere. Animations and dialogues are also argueable, I don't see problems, that doesn't mean problems of animation don't exist, but they are really not that obvious like ninjago fans shout out to be. And dialogues, what is wrong with them? They are normal and usual like any other season, I don't see problems with dialogues. Many things are so hated in this season for no reason and people seem to overlook every single detail just to say "this is so so bad". I will never understand that hate. S7 is a normal and good season just like any other, it could be worse than some seasons, it could be better than some seasons, but it's DEFINITELY NOT BAD

The reason Ray and Maya didn’t use their powers to defend themselves against Krux is likely because they passed on their elemental powers to Kai and Nya.

I'll never know why, but the reprisal of Jay's "who ate my pudding cup?" gag from Rebooted legit made me bust out laughing the first time I watched this season.

Hands of time was the second Ninjago season I’ve watched fully. I’ll admit it’s plot made me feel sleepy at some points, but I liked the flashback action of the Old Wars. I didn’t know it was that widely hated though

I feel like they couldv'e had Krux kidnap Ray and Maya using some tea or whatever to make them go unconscious and then having Ray and Maya wake up in his underground layer and having no choice but to work for him.

Personally I’ve never hated hands of time. It’s far from my favorite season and I do think it’s the most forgettable season but I don’t think it’s terrible. Especially after the complete train wreck that was crystallized

i always liked season 7 because of the villains mostly and the power of time but honestly i feel like every season is perfect except for crystallised

I'm currently showing my GF this show, (And she LOVES it so far. She's on Prime Empire) and we both definitely agree that Ray and Maya being good all along, was a bad twist. A twist that harmed Kai's character in the long run of the show. And a twist, that had it not existed, the story would've been more compelling. Imagine an alternate version of the show where Ray and Maya WERE these actual malicious traitors who joined the Time Twins at their own free will. People who thought there would be no consequences to abandoning their kids when the time machine was made. Then they could just go back in time and be parents, with their powers back and able to raise perfect little elemental masters. (Like, maybe they lost their powers making the time blades or something, and they clung to the past and felt powerless without that) Imagine what that would do to Kai, who is all about upholding the honor his parents' 'legacy'. He's always wanted to do what they did and do it better. But what if they ended up being these bad role models? What if he was clinging to the past and what happened as a consequence to his parents abandoning him and Nya, and he had to learn a lesson that the past doesn't matter, and what he should focus on is who he wants to be now. Imagine if the parents tried to play the 'you don't want to fight against your family' card, and their kids said back 'I have a family, it's the ninja'. Imagine if Ray and Maya were thrown in prison, and the Wildbrain era's follow up of them is a redemption arc where they try to be better parents, and Kai and Nya aren't fond of letting them in their lives. My gosh, the compelling character work and drama there. Having the parents be good all along not only harms the season's narrative that was built up to, but takes established trauma of your main characters away from them, without them ever working it out on their own. Again, if the parents weren't good, they'd have to work their trauma out on their own, which would've been neat to see.

Hands of Time, along with Master of the Mountain are the seasons I rewatched the most

if Machia wasn't killed, she would have power to control Iron Doom too. Iron Doom is working and moving on the fact that snakes of Vermillions move its certain parts, so that is why Krux and Acronix could control it so easily the same way as Blunck, Raggmunk and Machia did. so letting her alive would basically give another person control, and she could try to betray them and ruin everything and etc.

On the one hand, Skybound had a pretty egregious problem where once one character learned a piece of info all of them suddenly know it, even ones who couldn't possibly know it. But on the other hand, having the same exposition dump two or three times for multiple plot beats in Hands of Time becomes annoying really fast.

16:09 Don't forget that Kai also was exposed to his dark side duuring season 4, and while he was influenced by that magic staff I think that things he said geniuenlly were in the back of his mind even if he tries to be a bigger person, personally I wouldn't mind exploring it even more bc I do miss old Kai ( and Jay but that's besides the point) that felt like an atcuall protagonist material instead of this half baked version we have in new seasons

This season is like Horton Hears a Who for me. I remember liking both when I was little and didn't have hindsight but look at them now and see how they didn't particularly age well.

Actually Iron Doom gains sentience because snakes that made up Machia, Blank and Ruggmank (however you spell it) entered it, so that’s why Hands do Time destroyed them

I honestly wish David Shayne was kept on as a writer for a couple more seasons, he really had potential as a great writer since the stuff he wrote in HoT was sometimes genuinely brilliant. I enjoy HoT more than others but it 100% has it's flaws. Great video man, just found your channel yesterday and you make great stuff.

I never understood why this season was so bad. It was great, and doesn't scream "the franchise is beginning to decline" compared to stuff like The Island.

I think this season suffered so much because of the production of the movie aka diversion of time, care, and probably budget Also I really don't understand how does mya look younger than nya in the present but older than Ray in the serpentine wars like, reversal blade botox?

A positive for this season is how determined the villains are to win they always send the vermillion to constantly try and get the time blades which I personally like

I know I'm late to the comments section, but interestingly enough, I actually learned that Dr. Saunders was Krux through the actually LEGO sets. The Iron Doom was the first Hands Of Time set I got, and I saw Dr. Saunders' face on the back of Krux' minifigure head. I was confused at first, but then I put two and two together, so that's how it was revealed to me.

The parents being traitors by choice would have been such a good thing for the story. Why the elemental masters could have just disagreed with the king, wu and Garmadon and thought they were better off alone? What if the reason they disappeared was because they were wanted as traitors? What if Crux manipulated them because of this? The fight between Ray and Kay would have hold a bigger weight since not only they were father and son, but they were holding different ideologies. And this connect to season 8 where the called out the ninja for not being perfect, same old elemental masters weren't supposed to be all "good". Wasted potential

i agree on the kidnapping, crux couldve had some of the vermillion with him, maybe not fully equipped but we know crux has been laying this plan out for 40 years so he wouldve had a few vermillion with him, just to add a layer of threat, or maybe even a fight scene, the flashback was way too rushed tbf

Anyone can say what they want about Hands of Time. When I came across this series, I was quite interested in it’s ending (especially the Time Blades themselves). When Wu was lost in Time and the Samurai X identity (who is PIZXAL) was left unknown, I would always look up Ninjago Season, anticipating for the next season. This is what got me to be interested into Ninjago itself. It also got me to go back and watch the other seasons online, Day of the Departed included. People can say what they like about season 7, but I will be referring to it as, “The Season which would bring us into what we would know only to be, The Oni Trilogy”.

Hands of Time has never been unanimously the most hated season. It’s just the season that people like to hate on because they are scared to criticize earlier seasons (i.e. season 3) or later seasons (i.e. season 11).

Our neighbor said later that it was very interesting

I didn't even know people hated hands of time so much, I loved it, yeah the dialog was weird, the animation did kinda fall off, and there were some plot holes but i still loved it. The worst season is definitely either Chrystalized or season 3.

one of the things i love about "the attack" is the scene early in the episode with krux, acronix, blunc and raggmunc arguing about the stolen timeblade. say what you want about the comedy in this season, but this is one of the times ninjago made laugh out loud, it's very silly. blunc and raggmunc aren't very good comic relief villains but this scene is that one time i appreciate them as such :-)

I think that the line in the sand and the attack are some of the best episodes of this season and my brother and I put "the line in the sand" at the top of our tier list about this season, and we placed the "attack" in the top 5 episodes of this season, of course, I have some problems with it such as the bad animation and some plot issues, but it's still a better episode than "the attack" from lab rats elite force

The Iron Doom gained "sentience" because the snakes from the destroyed Vermillion possessed the mech and formed a sort of Buffmillion

funnily enough I think Hands of Time is one of my favorite seasons (not one i think is best in quality), yeah there are problems, but the story is very cool and I loved Kai and Nya's interactions, and the time twins were very cool and a big threat when they were at full power. Lloyd lost his eyebrows at the fight seen when they're trying to stop the iron doom when they begin Lloyd's eyebrows vanish it looks so wrong

Great review! However, I disagree with Maya and Ray staying evil. Only because Ray and Kai are a great duo.

It certainly has issues but I've always loved it and found the story and plot around time enthralling as well as liking how it was a joint season between Kai and nya

There’s another problem in s7 if look in the flashback u see maya looks very old if you go to current date of the time during this season maya looks very young

H.O.T is just alright in my opinion. My problems with this season is the animation and the writing. There were way too many moments where the show tried to be funny. But I did like the Time Twins, the Ray and Maya reveal, and the sets were fantastic. I got almost all except the Dragon Forge and Iron Doom.

Hands of time is when I stopped watching but then I finished it and loved the ending the last 4 episodes are amazing

"They didn't win we lost" Lloyd Mongomery Garmadon. Basically I just think that's just a fancy way of saying they both lost but as you can see in the episode that's not true as the hands of time obviously won, and took master Wu. Its probably the WORST line in the season.

Most over hated season imo. I do understand some of the criticism of the season like the animation or dialogue and a few parts in the plot but it’s definitely not the worst.

In the episode where they get the time slowing blade, I spotted Jay when there was already another jay on the motorcycle

i remeber coming home form school to my grandmas house everyday and not being able to wait to watch the next episode of this season, I loved it so much!

The Mailman should have been Krux, it would have been SO much more impactful as he's a character that has actually existed throughout the series.

This is one of the best seasons cause it had one more better villians that accuatly seemed like a threat and extremely hard to beat and the tempral whip was the most fitting remix for the weekend whip

You forgot something about Ninjago once you have your kids as an elemental Master they inherit the powers the second they are born which means Kai's parents could not have used their elements on him

Worst part of the Season is how the Ninja, especially Jay, act towards Lloyd once Wu is out of commission.

This seems like a good spot to let out my s7 gripes myself. Dr sonders went from silly wise museum guy to. Old grump who quote "wont use technology." * just went from living and contibuting to modern society plus Owns a whole museum*. He was the worst bad guy. I felt like it shoulda just been crux(whoever the young one is) and no silly flashback hats. But also only there mom shoulda been brought back dad still kaput. Like he raised them alone for a while and actually tought kai blacksmithing. Lastly the vermilion were just a worse stone warrior Plus serpentine mix. Already done both those but more scary obstacle like.

Just so you know the new seasons (which you showed the crystallized clips from) messed everything up when Kai and Nya changed the past with crux and acronix and changed EVERYTHING

Fun Fact: If Ray and Maya (Kai and Nya's parents) were traitors, that would change a lot. Master Wu wouldn't have been a baby again. If he wasn't a baby again and had rapid aging, imagine how much that would change S09

my favorite ninjago seasons were and always will be season 5, 7 and 11

The problem with the last episode is that it completely contradicts what Wu says about time travel - "Change anything, change everything".

unlike a lot of ninjago seasons, season 7 doesn't struggle with baffling writing decisions, one bad episode or missed potential, it instead struggles with problems that linger throughout the entire season like bad attempts at being funny, horrible dialogue and being too long. The exception to this is the reveal of kai and nya's parents (the flashback to be specific) which is a baffling writing decision.

what i will focus on in any story are the characters, especially the protagonist(s). if they are boring, then the entire story is boring. there really is no arc, its going thru the motions. its got too many lore dumps for my liking. its just not very interesting, its all going thru the motions. my biggest problem is that there is no problem. oh theres a villain, but the thing i want the most is the personal problem of a ninja. kai accepting his role is rise of the snakes, lloyd growing and becoming responsible, zane finding himself in a tech advanced world he doesnt really fit in, zane being missing, kai and lloyds brotherly relationship, jay being a bad friend, that stuff. the villain of a season should enhance that, not be a separate problem. i feel like the "your parents are traitors bit" should have a bigger impact on the siblings. kai being the older one and maybe remembering that moment thru a fog could believe it, nya being younger and just hearing stories of her parents being heroes could be in denial. strengthening of a sibling bond is a cool concept and overcoming a conflict could do it. the fact theres so much dead air and scenes that dont lead anywhere grinds my gears. 10 episodes to tell a full story from start to finish isnt a lot. its around 200 minutes, so a long movie but you gotta keep in mind this is a tv series with episodic elements. to explain in a different way, you can have one cake that can be cut into 10 slices and 10 cupcakes, but the way youll go about decorating them is different - with a cake you can put a lot of frosting on top, on a cupcake you gotta approach it individually. think of the frosting as plot and the treats as time, you can have the same amount of time but less plot to fill into it. in any case, when youre working with that, you really dont have time to waste. all those boring scenes actively make the season worse. the worst thing anything can be is boring. that means it has no redeeming value. secrets of forbidden spinjitzu is dumb most of the time, but its at least entertaining. here, no such things. i dislike hands of time more than crystalized for the same reason i dislike sonic heroes more than sonic 06, one is pretty bland and meh while the other is a fascinating case study on how incredibly someone can fail the themes of failure are alright but its never something the season goes all in for. you have the beginning battle, 1 flashback and then a bit at the end. thats not good, maybe if the smith parents realised how dumb they were it could be better but alas, they have not. in terms of what wu goes thru, because hes just a lame joke thru most of the season its not as effective as it could be. in other terms, it has potential, but saying that something has potential is just a roundabout way of saying that its real form is bad

when it comes to the matter of time in the ninjago series, i tend to not think about it. its all over the place. examples: hands of time says that the battle with the time twins was over 40 years ago; yet nya and kai's parents look to be in there 40s when we first seem them in the series (maya looking even older in the flashbacks because of her cheekbones). being just over 20 when the battle takes place is being generous, so at minimum the show is basically saying that ray and maya are just over 60 years old, which they clearly do not look. sensei wu and lord garmadon looked to be in there 20's as well when the battle took place, and they currently look like they are over a hundred. they looked the same age during 'Battle Between Brothers' where garmadon was banished to the underworld. considering lloyd looks to be just over ten years old when we first seen him, that would mean that garmadon and wu aged over 60 years in that time frame. stuff like this just makes my brain hurt.

I rewatched ninjago about 3 weeks ago and was excited for hands of time cus it was and is still my favorite.I remembered it better than it was but it’s still my favorite.

For me hands of times story was a great idea but terrible exucution. With bad animation. I loved the season though when I watched it in the summer, but after thinking about it, its just kinda mediocore.

Hold up, people thought Hands Of Time was the worst? I quite enjoyed it at the time and thought it was alright. Guess I don't really keep up with the rest of the community much.

What I like about this season is that All the time blades have some impact on the plot. The Green Blade: Time Punches Wu and Ray The Blue Blade: Slows the ninja down right as they capture wu The Red Blade: Stop The ninja so Krux and acronix can get the yellow blade The yellow blade: reverses Wu and Rays effects

Hands of time is one of my favorite seasons because I live in Belgium and I speak Dutch so obviously I watched it dubbed in Dutch and the dialogs were on point to be honest But now that I see this video showing some English dialogs I get why its not a fan favorite season

Hands of time is far from perfect but its alway been very underrated. that first episode is a beautiful setup and you could tell the overall foundation and base was set up well, its just the execution that wasn't the greatest. Its better than season 11 imo. I think the production quality drop is what got people hating on it more than anything else. At least I can say it has the best soundtrack out of all of ninjago.

I used to like it when I watched it for the first time, but know it’s my least favorite season. The animation, plot, characterization of the Ninja, villains and humor was all terrible. I respect the people who like this season though.

The fight with acronix in the 1st episode and the fight of a time of traitors, along with the better aspects of the season made me rank hands of time quite high for a while. But then Blunk and Raggmunk made it lose more and more positions over time. I generally think hands of time has a good start and a good ending, but a bad middle

Hands of time was always the season that i keep forgetting even existed in the first place. Its propably because my Ninjago phase ended with Skybound, but even when i went and rewatched Ninjago in 2019 i now realized i still actually barely remember this season lol What i remember is that i just kinda enjoyed it but i definetly could feel like this season broke the godlike streak Ninjago had going since Rebooted. 2014-2016 was the best era for Ninjago since the seasons that came out in that time were peak Ninjago content. It just didnt feel like its on the same level anymore. Sons of Garmadon went back to being peak tho, ngl.

I mean, like, there is still a possibility that they've just lost their elemental powers when Kai and Nya were born and for sure they could tell it to Crux once in dialogue since he was their close friend. anyway that's my head-canon ;)
