Yes sometimes this can be repaired with aftermarket parts. The boost pressure sensor is reading in absolute pressure. BARO was about 14.5psi absolute, so 33psi absolute minus 14.5psi absolute BARO= 18.5psi gauge pressure. Thanks for commenting.

On this particular engine, the turbo mounts directly to the cylinder head all as one piece with the manifold. So there really isn’t much that can leak exhaust ahead of the turbo other than the gasket at the cylinder head. Thanks.

I find that a lot of manufacturers over the years consider a cracked housing to be “normal” in service information and bulletins. Cast iron is hard to weld too. Not sure if brazing would work considering a turbo runs a lot hotter than a typical exhaust manifold. Thanks for commenting.

I see that quite a lot and also on other turbochargers so it seems to be common. The most common in my personal experience is exactly what was found in this video, the pins and linkages get all worn out.

Yes, I replace the oil feed line and return pipe on every one of these jobs. They are usually clogged solid from all of the cheap oil and extended oil change intervals. Also, these cars are running tiny turbo chargers at their limit most of their lives.

Check for air leaks or misfires.

If it has a new turbo and the code is not coming back immediately it could be a faulty turbocharger, boost leak, or also possibly an unrelated engine management problem. I often see an engine misfire or otherwise engine runs poorly problem and it can cause a P0299 due it poor performance. Does the car run ok? And how is the acceleration before the P0299 code sets? Does it drive normally and have plenty of power? Thank you.

@@DadsGarageDiagnosticSpecialist The car drives really good like there is nothing wrong with it and it was driving like that prior to Turbocharger replacement as well, it takes about 2 days for the code to set in, no misfires or even any signs that there is something wrong, plenty of power before and after the code sets in.

@@misha27060 well, the map sensor and the boost pressure sensor need to be reading accurately so that could potentially be a problem. Do you have a code reader or scan tool capable of reading data?

@@misha27060 well with the key on, and the engine off, all of the pressure sensors should be reading equally to prove that you can trust them in the first place so that is a good starting point. Otherwise, while driving of course do this safely monitor engine load at idle, cruising, and heavy wide open acceleration. Do the same thing with MAF and fuel trims. So you should report back three sets of data……idle conditions. Cruise conditions. And wide open heavy acceleration conditions. Also add MAP and Boost pressure sensor if possible. Thanks.

@@DadsGarageDiagnosticSpecialist 2009 2.0 turbo. Yeah there's a boost gauge in the car from the factory. There's lack of power after some driving some time, like when I get on the highway, go full throttle, and the reading doesn't go above 0 psi.

@awepossum1059 that’s interesting. Well you’d have to check for boost leaks, misfires, fuel supply problem, etc. You can use a cheap code reader to monitor oxygen sensors during the problem, when you hold the gas pedal to the floor the oxygen sensors should peg rich close to 900mV. If the sensor is pegged lean closer to 0mV it’s starving for fuel. I have a video or two demonstrating this…. Most recently the S10 video shows this.

The turbo adjustment is supposed to be permanent from the factory, it is a calibrated adjustment. I would most likely have to replace the turbo with a new OEM one. Other than that you could have a misfire up hills causing it also. I’ve seen a lot of faulty ignition coils and spark plugs cause a P0299 too. It really can only be a few things. 1. The engine has a misfire or some other reason that it isn’t able to produce enough exhaust flow and therefore low boost. 2. Air leaks. If the turbo boost is leaking the computer will see that as lower than desired boost. I would pressure smoke test for boost leaks. I’ve even seen the plastic intake manifold split and leak under pressure. 3. The turbo itself is misadjusted, worn, or for some other reason it cannot produce and maintain enough boost. 4. Some other engine management sensor is reading incorrectly and confusing the ECM…. Such as BARO sensor, MAP sensor, Boost sensor, etc. Since your problem primarily only occurs up hills or under heavy loads id suspect air leaks or an engine misfire. If the new turbo was not a factory part from GM I’d also highly suspect that is the problem. If I found nothing else in the end I would swap the whole turbo with a unit that has not had the adjustments tampered with. Thanks.

Smoke test has been done multiple tines. Interkuler changed cuz was not 100% good. All of the senzors have been checked. Last time the mechanicer adjusted the turbo actuator and it functioned 2 weeks and i drive 200km without the code. Yesterday i was in traffic jam 50km and after that i drove only 5km 120-140 and the code was there right away. Ok i took today the car to the mechanic in. Budapest 220km i drove without a problem:( no code whatsoever! And he said we have to take of the turbo(which is new one-someone already installed a new one before me) and to adjust it. I wanted to know if that would really be a problem that the turbo that was replaced needs an adjustment? Plus the mechanic has found that the car Audi q5.2.0tdi was tuned and he installed new software and adjusted the turbo aktuator abd as already described the problem was gone for 200-250km. Yesterday problem was there and today i drove to him so the dame distance sae road uphill all the time 120-180km/h and the code was not there. Thank you very much

and the Turbo has been bought brand new before i bought the car. and the mechanic says that the old owner did not adjust the turbo

If everything else has been diligently checked then yes the turbo adjustment would be highly suspect.
