Out of all the guitarists Coverdale has had throughout the history of Whitesnake, Doug Aldrich came the closest to Sykes as far as the solo is concerned

Steve Vai smoked them all. Saw Whitesnake with Sykes playing then saw them with Vai and all can say is ( what a difference )

These guys are not interested in copying anyone! They want to be their own person and player. You don't think Beach could copy Sykes, if that is what he wanted to do?

Saw these guys with Judas Priest a while back. Hands down best concert I've been to.

Effortlessly walks through an unspeakably difficult solo. I haven't seen anything like that since Vai took over lead for Malmsteen in Alcatrazz. To my embarrassment, I've never even heard of Doug Aldrich.

Check out LION - 'Dangerous Attraction' from 1987 which recently got a CD re-issue on Rock Candy. That was Doug's first major label release and he RIPS on it!

Call them commercial - whatever. But, DC has been one of best vocals ever in hard rock and came up with some killer tunes. This one one of them.

This Great Song was created by Coverdale, Moody, Marsden, Murray, Paice and Lord in far 1982. Saint&Sinners, in my opinion, was the greatest album from those guys which unfortunately they wasn`t able to pomote together. As a part of the show, i can understand what the guys from the band are doing on stage and what is the point about that circus and acrobatic tricks. In my opinion, this kind of performance (rhytm, harmony, meaning of the words, notes) loses in all positions VS original.

I’ve watched videos of Sykes play it back then I’ve seen vids of Vai , Vandenburg , Beach n even videos of John playing it now and Aldrich gets the closest to Sykes’s playing . Mind you some people only like the Marsden n Moody version and claim the 87 versions hair metal bullshit , horses for courses eh .
