Sometimes I was able to prevent it, but some days I’d wake up the next morning, like he said, with hundreds of texts and miscalls telling me they were gone. There’s next to nothing that consumes you with guilt more than knowing you could’ve done something. I've been in both sides of this, having put a gun barrel in my mouth 7 years ago, and i've talked down friends that were imminently about to end their life. If you fail to talk them down, call the police department in their area or the ECC number for the region that will connect with that persons local 911, and get a wellness check, i've saved two friends this way as they were out of state and I couldn't get to them locally.

I had a friend end his life 2 years ago. Not a month after that, I had another friend that was intoxicated saying he was gonna end his. I didn’t know anyone else that was close to him, so I called the cops in his home town to go check on him - from all the way across the world. I wasn’t chancing that shit, especially not right after the loss of my other buddy. This friend still has some problems- usually when he drinks- but I think his newborn and wife will keep him grounded. We still talk. I’d also say don’t hesitate to reach out to friends you don’t regularly see just to chat and see how things are going. It lets them know at least one person cares about them.
