+J.B. Chandler there's an interview out there where Andrew and Ben say they wrote that first album as a joke. Literally paroding pop music. They said they told the record label they weren't going to write another album like that and instead go in a direction they wanted to head. I personally love Congratulations way more than the first. Alien Days is alright, still growing on me. I don't know what you do for a living or even a hobby but at the end of the day would you want to create something that you would enjoy making and be proud of or make something you know people will like, especially sticking to the same formula and not growing. The people who really like you and your craft will stick around and support you. While the rest will say "time to pretend is their best song, everything else sucks." I realize this is an old ass comment and I wrote a lot, but that's my two cents.

***** I guess I'm that guy, I think the entire Oracular album is great. I enjoy Congratulations, but feel the newest music they aren't even trying anymore. David Bowie wrote Ziggy Stardust as a parody of others music, especially the song Suffragette City is a play on Beach Boys style. David Bowie was able to stick around a long time, while the Beach Boys had an epic period, then disappeared. Beach Boys are a great comparison as they too wished to move on from the poppy sound, and as they did move away the next albums (Pet Sounds and Smile) are considered there best, but since they were unable to sell albums, they were done. So, what Crystal Castles and MGMT should do is make an album that reminds us of them, and then go back to doing what you love. Because Cool Song #2 has to be more annoying to play in concert then Time to Pretend.
