This brings back some wonderful memories. Watching some of the best formula 1 drivers racing each other in formula 2 cars at Crystal Palace was something I will never forget. Poor Roger. RIP.

I'd forgotten what a lovely track Crystal Palace was. Mind you, back then, many UK tracks were similarly beautiful, twisting through parkland - Brands Hatch, Cadwell, Park, Oulton Park ...

Rather spooky that I discovered this video just as I’m finally reading David Tremayne’s book, The Lost Generation which tells the stories of Roger Williamson, Tony Brise and Tom Pryce. That certainly was a demon Anglia that Roger drove, nothing at all like my parents’ road car….. Thanks for the upload - its great to catch a glimpse of Roger’s early racing career.

Thanks for mentioning that,I hadn't heard of it. As well as this video bringing back great memories, my Dad used to take me to Brands or Lydden most weekends, I remember watching Tony Brise from when he first started out...then later his Brother Tim. Being from Dartford he was already a local hero from his karting days. The Super Saloons were great as well, some pretty wild machinery n that.

Glorious upload of basic motor racing in days gone by. What's of interest to me is that no one would mistake the shape of an Anglia, a Mini and a Hillman Imp for each other. Then there's a front engined rear wheel drive car, a front engined front wheel drive car and a rear engined rear wheel drive car. Compare this to today, cars are much more homogenous.

I would watch at Croft at this time. I always wanted Andy Barton, Sedric Bell and Alex Clacher to join in the fun at Crystal Palace. It would have been mayhem. Thanks for posting this 50! year old event.

Crystal palace was my favourite track. This is the first colour film I have seen. Brings back wonderful and tragically some sad memories.😞 . I Can't thank you enough for posting this. Thanks. Do you have any more films of Crystal Palace, I would love to see them.👍👍

@chris - same here. I absolutely loved sitting on the old railway sleepers at Crystal Palace. Watching the Formula 1 drivers racing in Formula 2 cars was incredible. I will never forget the Group 2 saloon cars either, with Camaros and Mustangs dicing with Escorts and Capris. Motor racing was never better. Sadly I remember the shock when Roger Williamson died such a horrible death.

Love Crystal Palace track.. Great upload. If anybody in the world still uses "GT Legends" game there is an ace version of this that was available. Dont know if theres anything on more modern race sims, but there should be..... A real speedway for smaller cars!

Screaming cars on skinny tires thats what racing needs to be. Not as fast as possible so aides are vital. 1970s racing was the pinnacle I wish we could go back to it. Cockpit safty of today but proper machines no electric aides no nothing but slippy slidy screaming cars. Its bs today how they all look the same sound the same the drivers like clones. The cars like clones its boring. USA is finally doing something special with its rally cross scene. Travis pastrana creates fun races.

You are referring to Roger Williamson? The commentator mentioned him having tried F3 and gone to saloons, he died in a fire during an F1 race. My memory says James Hunt tried hard to pull him from the wreck but couldn't get him out.

Yes, Anglias were very popular in club saloon car racing in the 60s although by the end of the decade Escorts started to replace them. People raced them with all sorts of engines and modifications - I can remember examples with Jaguar, Buick and Climax engines installed.

Yes, and I was lucky enough to take over that seat in Rogers car. The car was demon, and after all that roger did in it, I went on to win many races, and take three class lap records. All thanks to Roger Williams, and his team. I miss Roger to this day gerry taylor.

This looks like the same race meeting where later James Hunt would punch a fellow competitor in a F3 race after both colliding on the final bend.

A story blown out of all proportion to the facts. They had a scuffle and the marshals separated them in no time. Both drivers had their helmets on anyway.
