This poem was so powerful and beautifully written. Its so important that the boundaries become clear; feminism should not be a banner for racist, transphobic, homophobic cisgendered women to hide behind, and use to their own advantage. A 'feminist' who does not include other races, trans women, trans people, non binary people, other sexualities etc is not feminist. Feminism should be all inclusive, including all people from every denomination. Because it effects and includes everyone. I hate that the word has been taken and used the wrong way by some people, and for this reason it has been rejected. I hope the meaning changes back to include everyone. I identify as a feminist and I believe that feminism is synonymous with equality. I hope, socially, there becomes a time where that is agreed.

I don't think that the true understanding of what feminism is is getting through to many people. Feminism is open to all people despite gender, ethnicity, and economic/social standards

+Cassidy Renee You're kind of missing her point though... obviously that's what feminism should be, and this poem isn't saying that all people who call themselves feminists or the idea of feminism must inherently be exclusive, but as a movement it has been drastically dismissive of non-white women, non-cis women, etc., even today.

i may have just missed the meaning, thank you for your opinions. :) but the only one i disagree with is the one saying that feminism is a hate group, because it obviously is not.

It was originally created for the support of only women...when that was necessary. (which it obviously isn't anymore in America and some other countries) hence why it's called feminism. Modern day feminism is supportive of everyone regardless of age, sex, nationality, and gender. Of course there are still some that consider themselves feminists that don't actually support everyone but their a joke in themselves.

I am a feminist but I thought this was really good. Personally I know that I'm not this kind of person, I'm not racist and I don't hate men either but I think a lot of femists have really made the Word sound bad😩. Too bad some jerks ruins for the rest of us who actually fight for equality... But this poem is beautiful and I really feel her pain and I'm so sad a lot of this is true. I have seen rasism online Even in 2015, it saddens me that anyone Can discriminate each other. The world would be a much better place if we learned to love and respect eachother. I will def share this poem, it's really important that all voices are heard:)

that's very true! I personally think feminism as a whole in the world has a lot of work to do! it's still so new to so many people that we all see it a bit different at the moment. My perception is probably a little different than the next person. we have no real grasp at what it all contains yet even though we can identify that we fight for equality, but I learn everyday a little bit more what that actually means. and progress is made!

As a feminist who is a white, cisgender woman that identifies as pansexual, maybe I don't have the right to speak about this, but I am tired of the inequality. I see how black women are criticized for their shorts being short more than white women are criticized. I see the injustice. Please know that this feminist, as well as many others, value all people. Regardless of religion, race, sexuality, gender identity... I am fighting for equality and I hope one day soon this injustice will come to a fucking end because I hate hearing feminist as an insult and I hate the way people of color are ignored. I hate the way our society is functioning.

A woman is a woman, and nothing can change that. It actually shocked me when I learned that there were some people out there who believe feminism should only apply to one group of people and not the rest (I didn't know it in the first place because I'm quite young and at the age where I am just beginning to develop my values. I didn't decide I was a feminist until not long ago). Feminism is for women in general, not just white women or black women, straight women or gay women or whatever women. Plus, women should be able to be who they want without criticism from other feminists saying that they shouldn't do something because it's not respecting themselves or loving themselves. If you wanna be a working woman, cool. If you wanna stay at home, cool. If you wanna wear makeup and heels and do your hair up nice and shave everyday, cool. If you never even wanna touch makeup and you just wanna be comfy and you never wanna shave ever, go for it. It shouldn't matter as long as you're happy. You can't tell someone what should make them feel good and what shouldn't. People can only decide that for themselves. And don't even get me started on the Muslim Hijab thing...go do some research on unbiased sources before you talk about something like you know all about it. As women, we should be in this together, not separated because of skin color or religion or sexuality or whatever. Just like it shouldn't matter to someone that I'm Christian or that I'm straight or that I'm white, it shouldn't matter for another woman to be part of any other race or religion or sexuality when it comes to feminism. Also, NEVER say a man can't be a feminist. I've heard that one from quite a few people. And please, for the love of Pete, don't act like I don't understand that men have problems too. I know that men get raped. I know that men can be sexualized in the media too. I know that there are plenty of pervy women out there etc; so don't talk to me like I don't get it. Don't judge feminists based off what you see in the media. Feminists believe in equality, not superiority.

Beyoncé hasn't stolen others' cultures on multiple occasions. no one is shaming her for her VMAs performance, that's slut shaming and that's wrong. it's her body she can do what she wants. but her racist views and cultural appropriation are wrong and need to stop. that's why there was more focus on miley.

I think feminism is sound practice but do you not think its a bit extreme for every man to make you feel uncomfortable? I mean i am a guy but im not going to rape or oppress you-im just a 16 year old animal loving kid who picks up litter if he see's it as he walks home. Feminism is a sound practise but sometimes the things that get said are just bizarre

+william sixsmith I'm gonna try and break it down for you bud, hopefully this is a good explanation (This was the way my sister broke it down for me when I was first really getting into feminism, this was like in middle school). I'm 19, male, lean build, 5'10", 155 lbs, enjoy nerdy stuff, and most importantly I consider myself a feminist. Now then, if I were to meet you on a subway or the street (that was fairly scarce of people) and I were to engage you in conversation, as a young man you would not see much of a threat in another guy talking to you casually, I mean we're only 3 years apart even if it would seem somewhat shady or strange that this random man is trying to make conversation, you would have a sort of SECURITY (that's the keyword) that if I were to try anything "funny" like assault you or attack you, you would be able to fight back sufficiently and get away from me or even retaliate back and teach me a less by giving me a good bash. Now let's change the perspective with a minor detail, you're a women (or girl seeing as you're 16) and the same thing happens. I, stranger, approach you on the street or subway with barely any people around and make a comment to you which could be the most innocent comment but it doesn't matter, because you don't know me or my motives. Just with that advancement you are on edge and put on alert, because there was no reason for me to talk to you and if I were to try something "funny" the likelihood of you getting away from me is unlikely, you don't have the same SECURITY you previously had as a guy. If I were to make an attempt to hit on you, you being a 16 year old girl and me being a 19 year old man (EW SUPER CREEPY), and you did not take up my offer I could get violent for all you know. So you can either do 2 things 1. Say no to the guy and hope things don't escalate to anything and that he's a decent human being and will say "Oh, sorry I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable, have a good day", but there is a risk with that because I might be completely fucking insane and get violent or 2. Play along and keep flirting with me so you will be able to keep me from getting out of hand if I were crazy (and it's sad to say but most women when put in this situation they choose this option because they are scared that I could be a rapist/disgust degenerate/piece of human garbage, which is a very rational fear in my book). Girls are told about rape and assault and how prevalent it is and it scares girls because its a very real thing and it genuinely could happen at anytime (Every 107 seconds in fact). It doesn't matter that you are a nice guy or that you know for a fact that you would never hurt a person, because when you meet a stranger anywhere you don't know who they are, what they're like, how violent they can become, or how sick in the head they might be, that being said it is scaled 100 times for girls because of how common rape is (99% or all rape is male on female) and how many guys are uneducated and don't know what sexual assault or rape actually is or that they wold rape someone if they didn't realize it was rape (there's an article that came out about a year ago talking about this I'll put at the end if you aren't super bored or annoyed by my giant response, sorry btw). What this all surmises to is that me and you have it easier because we're guys. That's a fact, we don't have an active fear of being raped (less than 1%), because we aren't considered prime targets by rapists. Listen, you sound like a good kid from what you wrote and you remind me of me, just remember that you can go for a jog at night or near dusk, with your headphones on, wearing any clothes that you want, and don't have to be constantly looking over your shoulder or carry pepper spray or a rape whistle or have one of those keying things that are sorta like brass knuckles to protect yourself if someone assaults you. Sorry again for how long this is. (www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/09/college-men-commit-rape-study_n_6445510.html)

You say it's for everyone but at the end of the day you only want white straight cis women to be equal to white straight cis men. You can tell most when they talk about the day women woman were finally aloud to vote. It's celebrated everywhere but what's not said is it was the day white women were aloud to vote. You can tell it's only for them when they talk about the wage gap but only talk about how they make money less than men what about how a black female makes less money than you or a Latina makes less money than you. You can tell when they praise Miley Cyrus but don't take in consideration on how she uses black bodies as a prop, how she uses black culture as a prop. You can tell it's only for them when you bring up the issues that poc women go through and they say stop pitting women against each other.
