Hello, actually RTS/CTS is optional. It is only one of the many mechanisms used by Collision Avoidance. So I would not define CSMA/CA as RTS/CTS.

Question CSMA/CD system has a transmission rate on the bus of 10Mbits/s. The bus is 2km large and propagation delay is 5microseconds per kilometre. Packets are 1000 bits long. Determine the: a. End to end delay. b. Packet duration c. Maximum utilization on the bus. d. Maximum bit rate.

Thanks for the nice Video! When I watched other video about csma/ca, the sending station do 'carrier sensing' process before transmitting the frame. After IFS idle period, sending station generates random back-off period to avoid collision. Because there could be other stations trying to send their frames. In case of RTS/CTS, When a station wants to send an RTS frame for the first time, it performs a carrier sensing process and checks whether the wireless medium is idle. Will the station generate a random backoff delay and waits for it to transmit data when the medium is idle?? In addition, how does normal DCF differentiate from RTS/CTS?
@sunnyclassroom24
@sunnyclassroom24 5 жыл бұрын
Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) is a protocol which uses carrier sensing along with a four way handshake to maximize the throughput while preventing packet collisions. Thus, DCF includes the RTS/CTS process. Essentially DCF and CSMA/CA are the same.

I think when WAP send CTS package to the device. It means, the WAP accepts/says "YES"m everything is clear and accept to transfer data. Am I right? But in your lecture, when WAP sends CTS to device. It means / say "NO", everything is no clear to send So which interpretation would be correct?

Carrier Sense means the protocol senses the medium is busy or not. It is like a person can sense (see or hear) the traffic is busy.
