Randy,I like the way the CSS enclosure goes together better than the GR enclosure. BTW would it be a good idea to put the foam baffling in before you put the front panel on.
@cheapaudioman
@cheapaudioman 3 жыл бұрын
actually no. the foam that they use is very good and if cut properly fits and stays put nicely. If I would put the foam in at this point with wet glue there is no chance in getting it back out without making a huge mess.

@JoseFerreira-zb7wh 3 жыл бұрын
@@cheapaudioman yes, I've already seen Hivy's for sale here. The other options you mention from css, gr and the carpenter thing are good ideas, but make the speakers more expensive and probably make the diy option not really worth it when comparing to regular options. Waiting for those hivy reviews though! :)

Hi Cheap Audio Man! Do you think any of your DIY builds offer the clarity found with the Emotiva Airmotiv B1+? I am interested in a DIY build, however I'm unsure if any of the DIY kits can compete with Emotiva's ribbon tweeter for extreme clarify at their price point.
@cheapaudioman
@cheapaudioman 3 жыл бұрын
Very good point. I think both the CSS and GRR have clarity. It’s not the same sound as a ribbon though. There are some trade offs as the CSS and GRR have a better midrange and bottom end clarity as the Emos. GRR does have a ribbon tweeter in the higher tier but it will end up being more expensive than the Emos. If the ribbon sound is what you’re after then I would stick with the Emos. The GRR’s are probably closer to a ribbon sound than the CSS 1TD.

Another great video! Can't wait for the Veneer 101 episode. One question, can you stain mdf?
@jkmsaturn
@jkmsaturn 3 жыл бұрын
Sanded MDF should take stain, but it would be blotchy. Pre-stain is used to help smooth out surface inconsistencies, but MDF is not a good candidate for that.
@ginom407
@ginom407 3 жыл бұрын
@@jkmsaturn Thank You!!! I thought it wouldn't be a good candidate for stain. So would the pre-stain be a primer? Thanks again!
@jkmsaturn
@jkmsaturn 3 жыл бұрын
@@ginom407 You can think of it as a primer. It prepares the wood for stain. It looks subtle, but it evens out the different grains of wood. Some areas will really soak up a lot of stain, while others don't let it permeate as much. Check out some videos on wood staining furniture (even by Minwax & other stain products).
@slickfu
@slickfu 3 жыл бұрын
I would not try to stain MDF. It may be possible given what the other poster said, but you would not like the results. Sanding and painting would be the better route if you didn't do Veneer.

That's some fancy-pants looking gear in the background. You sure you are not the "Kind of Expensive Audio Man" in disguise? ;-) Would you consider setting up the glue on all the panels first and then pushing them all together? It doesn't look like the glue you are using would set up that quickly. I'm thinking it would be easier to do the glue neatly if it was all applied while the parts were laid out on the table.
