CSX 1869: My thoughts on the C&O heritage unit

Even though the paint scheme is a bit inaccurate it’s still my 2nd favorite so far. I fw stripes on Csx heritage units.

Yeah I honestly don’t mind the Heritage units now. I just had really high expectations at that time.

I think the 1869 is the best of CSX's heritage units. I'd rate it 8/10. However, my current favorite new heritage units are the Metro North Conrail and Metro North 1980s heritage locomotives. These are being done to commemorate Metro North's 40th anniversary.

They're not going to paint the nose but hey at least csx's doing a Heritage Fleet and honestly it's the best Heritage Unit so far I can't wait for the Penn Central based on the designs you showed the Penn Central looks like the best

CSX isn’t going to be like the other roads. I think that people should be happy with the fact that they are even doing heritage units. No! It isn’t the way you want them to look but at least they are doing them. And I highly doubt that you will see them doing a repaint of them like NS is doing with theirs. I think that once the paint starts to fade and they’re filthy dirty that will be the end of them.

I mean, At least they are finally doing "full" painted units. I like the way they are doing theirs. It's different and makes them stand out. Now If we could just get BNSF to do Heritage units, then every class one railroad would have them. Would be really cool

They won't fully paint them because old in the back and current in the front is their heritage which is backwards.

@@jonathanlafferty2271 The problem is, They're not going to listen. This is how they want them painted. I get why people complain. Trust me. But at least they're doing them. It's a lot better than the bumper sticker units. And you can't please everyone. No matter how there done someone is going to find something to complain about it. Even NS and cn got hate for there units and those are fully painted.

I would personally like to see the Chesapeake and Ohio script moved above the handrails.

Yeah that paint scheme was on cowl body units so there was no handrails. I think it would look better with the paint scheme the C&O had on the high hood engines.

The message that CSX is sending out (or trying to) is that they want to keep as much of their current paint scheme on a heritage unit as they can. This is a kind of corner we know Norfolk Southern, BNSF or UP never cut. Here's my ratings so far: B&O: 7/10 Chessie: 8/10 Seaboard: 8/10 C&O: 7.5/10

To me it could be better, but it’s rather stunning for what it is. I like the Conrail one a lot but the Q is a little too big.

I’m not sure. From what I’ve heard, they got a big overflow of flared EMD Macs so they are busy painting those. They might have also just halted production because of how the community handled it.

@michiganrailfan_13 yeah it looks real good. I was hoping that person would find CSX 1973 tonight and give it a midnight paint job. I do want to see more nose schemes though for sure!

The Chessie nose is real. I heard they're doing more like that too. I don't think 1869 is that bad

They wouldn’t waste money repainting. And this will probably give other people ideas to paint locomotives so I could see many more of these awesome fan made heritage units coming out

Better than the crappy contrail heritage unit, it almost made me want to vomit. This would be my favorite if it had its nose repainted

No, but I would expect almost all predecessor railroads to get one. Except for the ones that didn’t have iconic paint schemes and before the 1860s example: the Virginia Central Railroad

Curious to see what Conrail ones they do. I haven't heard anyone mention the Reading, CSX uses their mainline from Philly to Newark.
