This time I decided to take a trip down south to Huntington WV. and the surrounding area and see what we could find, being that this area is rich in C&O railroad history, plus it was a rainy cold nasty day, what else was there to do. so, if I'm gonna sit on the couch all day, might as well sit in the car and see something.
The CSX heavy rebuild shop is located in Huntington WV and is on the Ex Chesapeake and Ohio main line. This facility is on CSX's Kanawha Subdivision, between Russell KY and Charleston WV.
This shop is responsible for repaint, rebuild, and servicing Locomotives, and have done rebuilds and repaints of engines and passenger cars for museums.
I had caught a NS coal train in Ironton OH. and one in Kenova WV while I was tooling around. so be on the lookout for those vids as well. I hope you enjoy my little trip around the yard and if you do and haven't already, like, sub, and share, and I thank you for watching.

I work there, currently we are doing SD70 overhauls, GE overhauls and Unscheduled Engine change outs(It blew up), RM's on both EMD and GE's. Doing a Hybrid rebuild using a EMD platform with a GE engine. There is nothing that HHR can't do. We see all kinds of stuff, they even had to called back 8 electricians on furlough. I think it was for the Hybrid units.

@@TriGogglin These types of spots are extremely rare now in my area, and parts of Sydney. Micro management in the government departments killed it. We had rail yards, storage yards and multiple maintenance facilities here. All gone once the micro management got into it, deregulated the rail industry, and brought in contractors. Many of the contractors that wont pay their bills and under cut way below affordable rates....

@@mshum538 Hi there. The MP 15 hood is slightly longer than the SW 1000 & 1500'S. On New York s Long Island Railroad had them in commuter service for many years before being replaced with new engines & commuter cars that reassigned them. I spotted one when I lived in Queens at that time doing freight & other maintenance of way duties. I know MILWAUKEE ROAD had them until SOO LINE took over & were orange & black, with black paint patch up with SOO LINE logo. ATHEARN in HO scale had them years earlier. My surprise spotting them on this video on CSX.

Oh Yeah, the MP, stood for the company, Motive Power, 15,was 1500hp., and the ac., and dc., versions had radiator intakes, on the Nose end, or the Left and Right sides, but I don't remember which version had which.

@@TriGogglin I head from NC to Michigan a few times a year, and my route takes me somewhat close to Huntington... (I usually use rt 35 from the interstate up to Ohio, then go diagonally to western Michigan... I will have to see about stopping there, and then going cross country up to 35....

That would be a great stop, some if my viewers say the yard changes quite often. So you'll never know what you might see.

Looks like CSX has as many spare engines as does Larry's Truck and Electric (LTEX)! Is the rail business so slow that they don't need all those engines on the road?

I'm not sure of the state of affairs these days but, I figured all the DPUs they run with bigger trains now definitely probably put a need to download some inventory.

This is the Squaw Creek (I agree...) that had the most obvious rail connection. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squaw_Creek_Southern_Railroad Now, looking forward to this, as H'ton is where I was born...
