Since a brief period early last year when M426/M427 were extended to Waterville Yard with CSX road power being used the whole trip, CSX power east of Rigby had become rare again with just a few local service units and dead-in-tow EMD's going to and from the Waterville shops.
Lately in the past few weeks more CSX units have been popping up on the various locals mostly east of Rigby, including these two recent Huntington SD40-2 rebuilds; now powered with a GE prime mover. The new locomotive model is known as SD23T4.
Personally I find fresh company paint like this refreshing after seven years of patched up former CSX C40-8's (often referred to as "blobs" by photographers).
On Thursday 2/8/2024 I headed up to Waterville to find L070w with CSXT 1721 - CSXT 1727 - CSXT 2514 getting ready to head west.
We see them before dark idling at the yard and after dark in Waterville, Oakland and Belgrade plus audio of the recently replaced detector in Readfield.
The following morning we follow L071e from Waterville to Hermon, stopping at some cool spots such as the Kennebec River bridge, Clinton, Pittsfield MEC depot, East Newport and Newburgh before they stopped in Hermon to meet their westbound counterpart; with CSXT 9280 - MEC 7545 - CSXT 6152 running west as light power.
