After having broken up with an ex and gotten out of a bad situation, I was having trouble with enjoying this song like I used to because I couldn't help but put it in my ex's perspective and it makes me feel very uncomfortable and wrongfully guilty about leaving him. So I decided to look at it from a new lens. I now view the lyrics as more of a message to myself because I have trouble trusting myself after having gotten myself into such a bad situation and putting a lot of the blame on myself when it didn't belong there. Every day I have to convince myself that I am growing and changing and who I used to be can't hurt me anymore. This song works as that message, and I'm happy to say that I've reclaimed this song for myself. It's not sad, or guilt inducing for me anymore. Now it is about growth and strength through trauma. Thought I would share in case anyone can understand or relate, or maybe it could help somebody else
