I have a Ctek smart charger charger which has been working well, but I have a couple of comments. The first two times I used it, I found that the battery did not get properly charged even though it had reached the “CARE” mode. I used it again last night and monitored the voltage remotely, on my iPad via my car tracker. On this occasion, on reaching the “CARE” mode, I left it a few more hours before disconnecting. This time I found that the battery had reached its capacity.

I have an AGM 95 CA battery that I’m charging with an MSX 7. I think my battery is fully charged but when I charge it it ships through the first 3 stages but takes hours to get to the last fourth light. When it’s on the fourth light and I turn of the charger it again takes at least an hour to go to the fourth stage even though the battery I believe fully charge.
@CTEKBatteryChargers

Hi, The charger will go through all charge steps every time it is connected to a battery. And even if the battery is fully charged (or almost) the charger will try to add just a hint more energy if possible. If it takes time in step 4, it means that your battery is most likely in good condition. So keep charging and your battery will last a lot longer. Best regards CTEK Support

The first time I used it, I connected the negative terminal of the charger straight to the negative terminal of the battery which was still in the car connected. I did not connect the negative to an earthing point in the body work. It charged normally (I suppose), but did I break anything?

Probably not. The car has the negative terminal connected to the chassis anyway, so it would complete the circuit the same way.
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, no - you did probably not brake anything, but if your car is equipped with BMS (Battery Management System) and you connect the charger directly to the poles, the BMS do not "see" the charge and will still work as the battery is half charged with more fuel consumption as a result. It can take days before the system can detect the correct state of charge again. Best regards CTEK Support

You can disconnect the charger whenever you need to use your car , even if the battery isn't fully charged - just remember to charge again later on. My MXS 5 Test & Charge charger stays in bulk mode(in bike mode) for almost 6 hours when the sealed lead acid battery(14.2Ah) for alarm system that was being charge has around 12.2 volts still inside. Is that normal? Or I shouldn’t be charging that type of battery using this charger? Please respond. Thank you!
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, if the battery was totally flat when you started to charge, it could stay in BULK for up to 9 hours. But if the voltage is still 12,2 after 6 hours that say something is wrong. If the battery gets very hot - please disconnect directly, it might suffer from a broken cell. If the battery is cold, and you measure when the charger is still charging - there is a risk that the charger doesn,t work properly. It comes with 5 years of warranty so return it to the dealer if it is still within warranty. Good luck. Best regards CTEK Support

What's the 'smallest' battery the XS25000 can be used on. Can it be used to charge an AGM 8.6AH (10 hr) motorcycle battery? Thanks!
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, teh XS 25000 is recommended for batteries from 30Ah. So to charge a small battery - 8,6Ah will, strange enough , leave the battery undercharged. Voltage will rise too quickly but there is no time to fill Current before the chargers turnes off. I strongly recommend you to choose a smaller charger. It's not clear to me whether recond mode can be used with an AGM battery? MXS 5.0 manual says for lead acid and Ca batteries. BUT option for AGM/RECOND is available on the unit. Is it beneficial or detrimental to use this mode for AGM car batteries?
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers Жыл бұрын
Hi, AGM batteries do not suffer from acid stratification, so there is no really use to se RECOND+AGM mode. How ever many CaCa batteries are recommended to be charged with slightly higher voltage (AGM mode) and they actually benify from RECOND. So it might not be that obvious how to use the different modes - but I hope this helps. Best regards CTEK Support

To use the recovery it says the battery should be fully charged. I have a agm battery so should I charge fully on the snowflake and then switch to recond? It was deeply discharged so I'm confused which mode to start with since the recond says it should be fully charged first.
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers 2 жыл бұрын
HI. When you choose the RECOND mode, the charger will first fully charge the battery to make sure it is OK and in good charged condition (step 1-5 on most chargers) after that step 6 will lit up this is the actual RECOND function, when RECOND is done the charger will automatically go to maintenance mood (step 7-8) How ever - RECOND is made to take care of stratified electrolyte (Acid stratification) and AGM batteries got the electrolyte bound in an Absorbing Glass Matt which makes it impossible for the electrolyte to stratify. So there is actually no big gain using RECOND on an AGM battery. It will not harm - but it will not do much good either. My recommendation is to use AGM setting every time you are charging. Good Luck. Best regards CTEK Support

What is the AGM mode? Charging outside in the winter is fine? (The manual says never charge a frozen battery.)
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, To add high voltage to a freesen battery will ruin the battery.A fully charged healthy battery freezes at -67 Celsius. A totally drained battery freezes some degrees below 0 Celsius as the water and the sulphuric acid is stratified. So if your battery is totally drained and it is below minus it would be a good idea to take the battery somewhere warmer for some hours before charging. If the battery is not totally drained, it is probably not a problem to charge even at low temperatures. The AGM mode will give a higher voltage that suites many AGM batteries, but is also good when charging at cold temperatures as the voltage will be a bit higher to compensate. This will make the electrolyte accept charge better (As long as it is not froozen..) Good luck Best regards CTEK Support

CTEK don't recommend attaching the negative to the battery yet you sell CTEK CONNECT EYELET for permanent battery connection?
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers Жыл бұрын
Hi. If you are connecting the charger to a newer vehicle with start stop function, there is a BMS (Battery management system) connected at the negative terminal, if you connect the charger to the negative terminal the BMS does not understand that the battery gets charged and the system will not work as good as planned. That is why the charger should be connected to the recommended charge point. The CONNECT EYELET can be connected to the same recommended charge points for best result. If you have a vehicle without BMS you can with good result charge directly at the negative terminal. I hope this explains better. Best regards CTEK Support

Hello looking to replace my ctec charger after 12years of heavy use. I’m unsure of what to buy next and the difference between the “ct5 time to go” and the ”msx 5.0”. I have small motorcycle/Jetski battery’s and agm (90ah) car battery to charge and maintain. I run a total loss system on the Jetski so the battery voltage gets fairly low(red top/odyssey). What would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, A difference that I think is important for you - is that the MXS 5.0 can charge lead acid batteries as small as 1,2 Ah and the Time to GO charges lead acid batteries from 20Ah. So if you have smaller batteries smaller than 20Ah - the MXS 5.0 is the best choice. The MXS 5.0 is telling you what it is doing - step one - two and so on , and the Time to Go shows the time left until fully charged. Best regards CTEK Support

@CTEKBatteryChargers

Hi, we recommend to use one 2,5 m extension lead, as there will be voltage fall when the leads get longer. The voltage drop might undercharge the battery. If possible extend the cable between the charger and the mains. If two extension leads is the only way you can charge - use two! It is always better to charge than not to. Good luck. How long should I keep an AGM 12V 20Ah battery on the charger in Recond mode with the MXS 5.0?
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, In general we do not recommend to use RECOND to AGM batteries, the do not get stratified as wet lead acid batteries get. RECOND will be done between 0,5-6 hours depending on the batteries need. After that the charger will go into maintenance mode. We only recommend to use RECOND once or twice a year. So if you have used AGM+ RECOND please change to AGM. you can have the charger connected for as long time as you want. or charge how often you want, the charge will not harm the battery. Why do you suggest the negative terminal on the body and not the battery?
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, most newer vehicles has got a BMS (Battery Management System) to check the battery voltage and inform the vehicle if there is power enough in the battery to use less fuel, to save CO2 emissions. This BMS is mounted close to the negative pole on the battery, if you connect the chargers negative clamp directly to the negative pole the BMS will not "see" the charge and will keep working as if the voltage was the same as before the charge. If we connect to a recommended charge point or to the body the BMS will be in the loop, detecting all the charge and give the correct information to the vehicles system and the vehicle will work better. So connecting to body or recommended negative charge point is to make the vehicle work better - the battery will get as good charged if the charger is connected to the negative pole as to the recommended negative charge point or to the body. I hope this explains. Best regards CTEK Support

I’ve tried to get a rubber shield for the temperature meter input in so many places, but nowhere can I get it. Mine was accidentally torn off and lost. Ho could you buy one? Hi, if the green power lead is blinking, this means that there is no contact between the battery and the charger, or that the battery is discharged to less than 2V left. Did you notice if the charger started to charge? Any lights on the upper row? If you try out the charger on another battery, that you know is OK, will it start? If so - the charger is fine. Why do you not connect directly to the battery negative terminal ?
@CTEKBatteryChargers

Hi. Most modern cars are equipped with a BMS (Battery Management System) and this device are mounted at the negative battery pole. This BMS will make sure the emissions are as low as possible (letting the battery work as much as possible). The BMS keeps track of how charged the battery is. If you connect directly to the negative pole - the BMS will not detect the charge and will work as the battery is drained and that will increase emissions. It is also spark proof so it will not ignite any gasses from the battery on top of that it will not overcharge the battery so there will be no gasses. It can be connected for months and months, or disconnected when fully charged. It's up to you. Hi, I understand you feel like you bought the wrong product. I will try to explain why we did this. A battery is out of energy at about 11,8V, you can off course drain it more. If you leave the battery uncharged for a very long time consumers and self discharge will lead to an empty battery, If you leave a door open or lights on over night you will probably drain the battery, perhaps lower than 2V. 2V is the limit we have chosen to make the charger spark free and reverse polarity protected. This is safety features that are very important for CTEK. If your battery is drained below 2V, the charger will not start! If it has been unused for a long period, I recommend you to get the battery tested it might need to be replaced. If you just drained "over night" you will need more help. If the battery is very close to 2V, it can work to connect the charger and turn on the lights that will raise the voltage and perhaps will the charger start. If not - you will need a start booster, starter cables or a bigger CTEK charger which got the SUPPLY mode, in this mode the charger works as a power supply instead of a charger, The MXS 7.0 or the MXS 10 both got this feature, One minute with SUPPLY and then turn to charging mode. I hope this explains. Best regards CTEK Support

Can I use this charger on my 1982 Corvette while the battery is in the car? There is no place to connect the black ground clamp besides the negative battery terminal (as you show in another video). Will this damage something?
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I am not sure of what charger you refer to, but I can strongly recommend the MXS 5.0. It is safe to have in your 1982, connected directly to the positive and negative pole as the battery is still mounted in the vehicle.. There are no ECUs (Electronic Control Units) in your Corvette and that makes it possible to connect directly to the battery poles. CTEK chargers are spark free, reverse polarity protected and electronic safe.. Good Luck! Best regards CTEK Support

@@CTEKBatteryChargers Thank you for your answer. Just to be clear: the 1982 Corvette does indeed have an ECM (Engine Computer Module) and electronically controlled fuel injection. May I ask why it is recommended to attach the ground clamp to the body of the car, rather than the negative terminal on the battery? If I connect the "Comfort Connect" cable that came with the CTEK MXS 5.0, the eyelets or connector points on that cble attach to the battery terminal anyway, so why can't the clamps be attached to the terminals?
@CTEKBatteryChargers
@CTEKBatteryChargers 4 жыл бұрын
@@IamMagPie Hi Sorry for my missunderstanding. As soon as the vehicle has some kind of electronic components checking the status of the battery (BMS) and that unit is fitted to the negative pole on the battery - then you have to connect the charger to other negative connection points in order to give the (BMS) system the correct information about state of charge. The CONNECT EYELETS and INDICATOR EYELETS should be connected the same way (positive pole and recommended negative charge point) The only time you should connect to positive and negative pole on battery is if the battery is not fitted in a vehicle or if the vehicle is not equipped with a BMS at the negative pole. This BMS showed up with start stop vehciles in the beginning 0f 2000 so that was why I assumed that your car did not have this system. Best regards CTEK Support

I have a Ctek US 3300 for over a year and it's been flawless. However this year when I've connected the charger and when the battery becomes fully charged, the light correctly goes to green indicating a full charge. What is new this year is that with green light remaining on, the partially charged orange light sometimes comes on in a flashing state. What does this mean, is the charger defective, or is this normal?

Hi, This might be the charger giving the battery a pulse up to 100%. If this is more visible now, it could be due to an older battery. For me, this is normal behaviour. If it flickers very frequently there might be a battery problem, many active consumers or poor contact between the battery and the charger. I hope this will help you. Best regards CTEK Support

Hi When RECOND is active the voltage will rise to 15,8V and the electrolyte will start to mix. This is to help lead acid batteries with wet electrolyte to get rid of acid stratification. Some lead acid batteries, as GEL and AGM does not have a wet electrolyte so they will not benify from a RECOND. GEL batteries will risk drying out the electrolyte. So in short. All lead acid batteries except GEL and AGM benify from RECOND. Use RECOND once or twice a year to prevent acid stratification and gain capacity. Good luck. Best regards CTEK Support

I started 4th cycle with same mode charging + AGM + Recond and went to sleep. When I woke up in the morning after about 8 hours charger was still on 3rd lamp. I thought that something went wrong so I decided to restart it keeping the same mode and went to work. When I came back battery was one more time at third lamp after about 9 hours one more time I decided to turn it off and check if everything is alright. Temperature.... of battery was about 50oC and charger even more.I let it cool for about 4 hours then I decided to cycle the battery one more time with the same mode but after few minutes charger was about 50oC so I shut it down and I'm writing :). Hi. Thank you for choosing CTEK! The battery is 100% fully charged when step 5 is passed so you can disconnect the charger at any time after that and still have a fully charged battery. Step 7 and 8 is maintenance modes to keep the battery topped up if you not going to use your vehicle directly. step7 will keep it topped up to 100% but that risk damaging the battery if it goes on for months and months so that is why we have step 8 that will keep the battery topped up between 95-100% as long as it is connected. But remember - you don't have to wait. When you need your car - disconnect the charger even if only step 3 or 4 are lit. All that you have added to your battery is good. And if you don't need to use your car - leave the charger connected, it will keep the battery in a good condition. I hope this helps. Good Luck Best regards CTEK Support
