He wasn't just "singing a few songs"! He was a fucking feature! I saw them many times, and when Mark came out, the audience lost their minds! As did I. His voice was legendary.

I remember watching a video where Josh introduced Mark and Mark comes out to a thunderstorm of applause and tears it up. He was more than a backup singer. He was a full blown member of The Stone Age.

I 100% agree. They lost that burnt-out, psychedelic, acid fried edge after the first three too. Oh, and they lost Nick. And the difference was tangible. Even tho they've never made a real bad record in my opinion. Maybe Era Vulgaris and the last one are the ones I enjoyed the least.

So the only way I knew who this guy was was from qotsa, and I always really liked his voice, and I didnt know if he was in any other bands or had anything else going on, but I was like "what the hell is this? Dude sings like a song or two then hes not there the rest of the time, what in the world?" It was just so odd to me, but it always stuck with me as something I thought was pretty cool. Then when he died and it was on rockfeed and stuff it said that he used to sing in queens of the stone age and I was like "Thats that guy!!!" I hate that thats how I found out, but because of it, im starting to listen to more of his music, and I gotta tell you, its giving me that shitty feeling of "fuck. I couldve been listening to this shit for years!! It wasnt far away at all. I like qotsa a lot, but theyre just one of those bands who i never got around to listening to a full record and I certainly had never listened to his other band. Dude was a real talent tho. I love that mans voice. One day if I drink and smoke enough, maybe I too can get there one day. Lol RIP man!!! You fucking rule.

one of the interesting part about "Songs for the deaf" album is the album included different vocals. And the album is amazing, different vocals & different flavors. You can't make a song like "Song for the dead" with Josh. His sound is not fitting the song. Or "Quick to the pointless" with josh or lanegan. and this could take qotsa to an another level. the 2 best album of qotsa, lanegan was included in them. and then lanegan and nick left, qotsa was never like before. okay, lullabies and like clockwork is great actually 4 albums they released after "Songs for the deaf" is great. but not for me for the people, they are not that great. for me the best album of qotsa is lullabies to paralyze but for people, 2 of their albums are the greatest the first one is "Songs for the deaf" and the other one is "Rated R". lanegan should have stayed.

I realised it was too easy, is codeword for Josh didn't need me as much as I needed him, rated r and songs for the deaf have sold enough to get Josh headline festival status, lanegan however good a singer hasn't managed that alone, so gains more exposure being a guest singer on qotsa . Nick slapped his girlfriend around ( which is not cool and wrong on any level) Josh fired him, and as a result took queen's in a direction that he didn't need lanegan to guest sing. I'm sure it was amicable enough, but lanegan is like, saving face.
@ariaomega4 жыл бұрын
I agree. Josh is obviously careful with his decisions regarding QotSA and it's the same reason Nick got fired.
@corb17764 жыл бұрын
No, what he means by too easy is that he had too much time not actually doing anything and as many musician drug addicts do, he fell back into it and it got so bad that he didn't even show up to sing one time, and they both were like "ok this isnt gonna work" which is why they still do something together from time to time, but they know mark cant handle a full touring gig with them.

Lifetime fan, and painfully have to agree. This podcast didn't help, honestly. The final nail for me was the "With Animals" album with Duke Garwood. I got the vinyl, was so excited and took it home and listened while reading the provided lyrics, and... oh shit... this is the most meaningless horseshit word salad crap I've ever heard! It woke me up to the reality of what Lanegan really is (now). In this podcast he pretty much confirms it. Yes, he needs to make a living, understood, but he's definitely no hero or prophet. Sad, really.
