Cub Cadet LT1045 Valve Cover Gasket & Valve Lash Adjustment on a Kohler Courage 20 Engine.

Welcome Back to Mehl's Mountain Garage. This time around I'm working on my Yard Tractor, a Cub Cadet LT1045 with a Kohler Courage 20 engine. It's an old tractor, a hand me down from a family member, but a good tractor. It has around 500 hours on it, and is always in need of some maintenance.
This time follow me along as I replace the valve cover gasket since it leak's like a sieve, and adjust the valve lash while I'm there since it has so many hours. This is more of an instructional video, so no time lapses or music, let me know what you think in the comments!!

Kohler is like a DD engine, put a quart of oil in it every day weather you run it or not

I replaced the gasket before watching this and it failed. Do you know the proper amount of torque for the #10 bolts for the cover?

What I have from the service manual: 11.0 N-m (95 in. lb.) into new hole (new head) 7.5 N-m (65 in. lb.) into used hole (when just replacing a gasket) I went a little more than the 65 in. lb. on this. You also have to ensure the baffle is positioned correctly. I suppose The Right Stuff on the gasket is an option for continued leaks or a deformed valve cover. Hope this helps.

My Husky is 9 year's old and never had a leak. I just adjusted the valves and it was RTV that was put on from factory and a very thin layer, no cork gasket, that's what went back on High temp gasket maker and oil resistance. Those cork gaskets are garbage bro. Great video cheers
