Cuban Picadillo is the ultimate Cuban comfort food. It consists of a flavorful ground beef cooked in tomato sauce along with onion, peppers, potatoes, and olives. Serve over white rice, maduros, or tostones, and you have yourself a traditional Cuban dish.

My mom always added raisins in her dish and I love the taste , I add raisins ass well on mine , and I make empanadas with all of the same ingredients as you show here but I add adobo as well…. Mmmmmmm .

We have a Filipino version. We add soy sauce and sometimes fish sauce to flavor the dish instead of salt. It’s so yummy and has that extra umami flavor.

I like to add pieces of carrots to mine. It's how my grandma does it. Other than that it's the same pretty much the same. So good and really takes me back to my childhood as well. My grandma would make it once a week. Love to eat it with rice, black beans, and a banana. Lol I have my Peruvian husband eating all the Cuban dishes.

I've never tried adding carrots to mine. That sure sounds interesting. I'm glad this recipe brings you as many nice memories as it does to me and I could honestly eat picadillo every day If I could. It's sooo good!

Louisiana Creole here, and my grandmother does this the same minus olives. We throw in stewed baby tomatoes, chop carrots and spinach in ours, and serve on white or yellow rices.

I have never heard my husband rave so much about a dish! We are in the Florida Keys and he even raved about this to one of our Cuban friends the next day, very proud of me to have made it. Our friend said he loves to eat it with pasta. We will have to try that! Is this something you have heard of?!

I don't mean to brag myself, but it's the best picadillo recipe. 😋 And yes, picadillo with spaghetti is something I ate as a little girl and still make from time to time. I usually add half a jar of pasta sauce to create more of a meat sauce. We also can't forget the banana. It might sound very strange, but we Cubans eat anything and everything with a banana. 😅

This was my 1st experience with picadillo. Key West back in the 70's I lived there for a year. Yum I haven't had such good picadillo, since. Will make this for sure

@@Destinyofhearts Yes, absolutely!! I've made it with chicken and turkey and it's divine. You can follow the recipe as it but something I like to reduce the amount of tomato sauce and add some freshly chopped tomatoes instead for a lighter meal.

Hi Francisco! Yes you can substitute it for tomato paste. I would say use 1/3 to 1/2 cup of tomato paste and dilute it with enough of water to make 1 cup.

Hi Susan, You can use dry-cooking wine, but I personally don’t like the flavor. Or you could just leave it out altogether and all a bit more water

Question - what percent fat ground beef do you use? When I use 80/20, it releases a TON of fat that has to be drained. So maybe go more lean (I think 92% is what stores sell)?

Hi! I usually do an 85/15. You can always drain some of the fat if it’s too much. But, a 93/7 will also work.

I was like, “she’s going to show us how she went shopping for the ingredients???” Then I realized she was saying “chopping” with an accent.🤣🤣 I left Miami years ago so my ears are not tuned to the Cuban accent anymore.

Sorry, you don’t have black beans with picadillo. Olives are added at the very beginning for flavor and the potatoes must be fried if adding to avoid them falling apart. Other guises, it should be good

I grew up eating picadillo with and without beans. There's not one right way to eat it. Everyone makes their picadillo differently. I personally like to add the olives at the end, but you could also add them at the beginning. Same with the potatoes. If I have time, I'll fry them; if not, I'll just add them like I did here and it's just as yummy 😊

Ana, I'm sure your picadillo is delicious, however, I wouldn't say that it is an authentic Cuban recipe. I don't know any Cuban that doesn't sauté the vegetables "Sofrito" first and then add the meat and we NEVER, ever add water to picadillo. That is something that restaurants do for volume. We generally use fresh ingredients such as coriander not seasoning packages. Adding potatoes is optional and they are fried separately and added at the end, not boiled along with the meat. Im in union city west new york erea cubans restaurant in every corner.eat in my best friend's mom's house she worked at a restaurant. I had to leave your video the part where you added oil lots of oil.maybe other nationalities think its "authentic "i pass with no disrespect
