Quick breeding is putting it mildly. I started with seven specimens last year from my own backyard, and even after upgrading to a much bigger bin, the colony looks like moving sand every time I open it. I don’t really have space to split the colony, so the high density is staying for now.

Oh I'm so glad you made this. I love these guys. I have all the same ones you do except the glacier, But that's coming next week so I can't wait. How is your budgie?
@Aquarimax
@Aquarimax Жыл бұрын
You’ll like those glaciers!! Unfortunately, we lost our budgie some time ago. We were having a lot of wildfires in the area, so the air quality was very poor. We took him to the vet when he started looking I’ll, and they attempted to treat him, but unfortunately he passed away. 😢 RIP our buddy Twilly.

Cubaris murina are absolutely lovely animals, a little shy like most Cubaris, but they reproduce really well so you always get to see some scurrying around. Is the second part of your ezyeddie video coming soon? I can't believe you've kept us waiting.

@@Aquarimax Please do! Back to murina though, there's sadly no glaciers in the UK yet, but me and eddie talk about it frequently enough that I'm sure we'll sort something out for the people on my side of the Atlantic one day. He's absolutely nailed their environment, he's got swarms of them.

I'm in love with my new cubaris murina glaciers already! I really appreciate your isopod video series, it's been so helpful. What are some "tougher" plants that these guys would avoid eating?

The one Cubaris species I keep, because I'm still a bit sketched out by the fact that species like Panda Kings are being collected from the wild with such abandon that there's no real scientific information on them and even less regard for their conservation in the wild. Meanwhile most captive C. murina are derived from stock introduced to North America, and they're not in particular danger by being harvested

Hello Rus! Great video! You have some wonderful looking isopods there. Would you say these guys burrow a lot? I noticed you said you recommend about an inch of substrate, which leads me to think "not really" but I wanted to ask specifically. I know my Canyon Giants burrow, so I give them more substrate than my others. I always THOUGHT cubaris were diggers, but I could be wrong or mixing things up. I'm still learning! In the future I think I'm going to start a colony of Papayas for my daughters. We'll see. Thanks again. Go easy. Me
@Aquarimax
@Aquarimax Жыл бұрын
These will burrow to some extent. I feel like they do so a bit less than Rubber Duckies, though. Spoiler alert: The next video, next Friday, was inspired by one of YOUR questions in the comments!

@@Aquarimax Ah, maybe it was the Duckies I was confusing them with. Hats off to you and how you're able to recall things so fluidly! And, wow! I cannot wait to see. I don't want to know. The ONE good thing about asking so many questions is, I cannot be sure which you are speaking of. haha. And I love surprises. I'll be there for sure! Go easy. Me

I just bought some yesterday! These are a lot more shy then I expected, but are sooo cute and so beautiful! I bought the wildtype little seas but they're so cute. I see tiny white isopods that don't conglobate in the enclosure, I am not sure if they're dwarf whites because they are a lot smaller. Maybe baby dwarf whites? Should I seperate them?
@Aquarimax
@Aquarimax Жыл бұрын
Congratulations on the Cubaris murina! I’d separate the little white ones. It sounds like they could be dwarf whites.

Hi Russ! any thoughts on cubaris murina for composting? I've been thinking of adding some isopods to speed up an established indoor worm bin with red wrigglers, and I'm thinking either cubaris murina, giant canyons or venezillo parvus. any thoughts on which of these (or any others) might work best?

Out of those three, I cast my vote for Porcellio dilatatus, though dairy cows or Milkbacks would probably be at the top of my list.
