I like the simplicity of the way Cubase handles busses. I've used many DAWs over the years, including Cubase a very long time ago, but I really like working with the current version of Cubase. I ran the demo last October and was hooked. The videos in this channel really helped me get up to speed in learning Cubase. Such a huge help. I just purchased the mixing course as a way of saying thanks.

I've leave my Cubase almost 3 years playing around with Cockos Reaper, but now I've just realize Cubase is much easier to send FX than other DAW, finish watching your video, I'll go back to visit Cubase haha ❤️

Coming from FL studio, Cubase's mixer is a godsend! Having to manually route every track in the mixer into my own bus and sends in FL was so tedious, meanwhile Cubase's is just a right-click away. Thank you Chris!

Glad you like Cubase but you do not have to individually route tracks in FL. You can select several and make a submix, route to a selected track, route to selected and master (for FX tracks), side chain to selected etc.

Nice video again Chris. I love that Cubase allows two different channels for groups and FX because I use each one differently. On my group channel, I may EQ and compress lightly to bring everything in that group together so to speak. However, I may only want reverb on one of the sounds in that group so that sound will go to an FX channel. I also like the automatic routing but if I want to change the routing, that's just a couple of clicks and done.

Hi Chris! Thank you for this video (even I know all of that already) . But it is nice to see clear explanation why is (for me, and this is just one of the thing) is Cubase Pro much better DAW for me than ProTools for example. Btw. for ProTools users , GROUP channel in Cubase and AUX in ProTools are the same. You may also use GRP/AUX channel in the same way in Cubase with sending signal as an AUX to GROUP channel and use it for FX . It is just simplier and faster to make new GRP/AUX with routing in Cubase.

This is a really helpful comment. My hubby is a pro audio engineer coming from the analog & protools world and when we try to work together, I always trip up on how to explain what things in his world are called in Cubase. I literally wish someone would make a graphic/book/chart on this so we can get on the same page faster.

I like the idea of fx channels and group channels. It provides a clear distinction. However I still appreciate the fact that Pro Tools has the ability to assign a "bus" as input or output to any channel. This requires a few extra steps in Cubase as I have to add a dummy output bus(no physical output) then activate direct routing. Comes in handy when printing to audio.

Can you cover the difference between setting up ST vs Mono busses for Input/Output. My real question may be - in the input/output dialogue with a 32 I/o device, is it best to set up 16 stereo buses of which I'll be able to use Left or Right if I need a mono path OR should I set up both 16 stereo and 32 mono busses?

Is it possible to send tracks/group channels to two or more separate group tracks? How would you do this seeing there is only one output slot for each channel/ group track in the routing section at the top of the mixer?

Is this the ball park for when you want to create a path that can allow me to have my guitar plug ins out put to be playing while I can turn the play back on the track I’m recording off as not to use extra cpu? Thinking of presets with lots of reverb and delay on them that tend to use more cpu. Is this a possibility ? I’ve heard this but looking for confirmation on this technique. Cuz it would be EXTREMELY useful. Is that what this all leads to? Thanks anyone! New to this stuff

Hi Chris. I get latency on the selected channels when i add them to a group channel. Do you have any advice on how i can fix this?
@blue_cloud7
@blue_cloud7 3 жыл бұрын
Now what is the purpose of the parallel signal in the FX path? In the group track, the whole signal goes where you point it, while in the FX track only part of the signal. What is the purpose and meaning of this? Why is this useful for effects like delay and reverb?
@bryancool8819
@bryancool8819 2 жыл бұрын
Well if you route through just one effect, it's not really any different (you can get the same effect by adjusting the dry/wet on the effect). The power comes when you want to chain multiple effects--so if you want to run the signal through a delay and then a reverb, you put the delay -> reverb chain on the inserts in the FX track. That lets you adjust the dry/wet balance of the whole effect chain at once by moving the fader on the FX track. You also get all of the benefits of a channel (automation, sends, etc.) for the effect chain itself.

Great video, Thanks, Chris. I have had a problem with my Effects channel tracks. Let's say I put reverb on guitar using the effects channel track. When I have the fader on zero there should be no reverb going to the guitar. You should just hear the guitar but If I lower the guitar signal and the reverb signal I can still hear the guitar reverb very loud. So this is with both faders on 0. This is post-fader as well. Any idea what is going on?

Hey Chris, Question for you. So I have 3 mono vocal tracks, and I wanted to create a group for them. So since the vocals are just in mono. When creating a group track would I make the configuration mono? If yes, Why do the pan knobs disappear on the vocal tracks when create a mono group buss, but when its in stereo group buss the panning doesn't disappear?
@mixdownonline
@mixdownonline 2 жыл бұрын
You can use a mono group only if you're routing tracks that are always panned in the centre... It doesn't happen often to be honest... For your mono tracks you want to pan around, route them to a Stereo Group

Great Vid.Something I'm still unsure about (I hope I didn't miss it in your explanation). Let's say that for vocals, we only have 1 vocal channel and 1 fx channel for it (as in your example), and I see that they both go to the master. Now since they are parallel, are they both entering the master as separate independent channels (as I guess it would since they are independent), or do they sum up and mixed as 1 channel before entering the master. Or is it one and the same? What I am trying to get at is, is it that the vocal channel and the fx channel are treated as 2 separate channels and summed up for an overall effect, or is it that the fx acts as an effect in the vocal chain, where it just directly affects the whole vocal in its single signal flow, being treated as one channel going into the master.
@mixdownonline
@mixdownonline 3 жыл бұрын
In that case, they both enter the Master Channel independently.
