Great story. Women certainly have an amazing sense of hearing. As I mentioned to you before, my mother was a pianist and musical savant, and I often chose gear that she liked due to her excellent sense of hearing and tonality. The majority of it is still in my main system. Wonderful vid. I really enjoy these longer vids packed full of info or just a great story. Thanks, Janos.

Love it and showed it to my fiance... still positioning speakers ;-) thx for sharing!! It comes again down to listening and not perfection ..

I gave up chasing perfection a long time ago... there's no such thing really, and going down that road just forces us to a dead end where the system can play only one recording perfectly, the rest be damned... keeping the rproduction open-ended always leaves room for taste, perspective, and as such, the delicacy of diversity...

I’m no longer terribly interested in audiophiles opinions, I want to know what musicians think.

That's the right attitude! 👍👍 I'm going to share more often about my musician friends thoughts and observations. PS - Nelli is a musician. ; ).

Great report and a you are describing the goal of a great system very nicely this time :) Once I got a whiff of this, Vangelis comments that life is music, or music is life, fell into new ground. What amp did you use for listening downstairs?
@realworldaudio
@realworldaudio Жыл бұрын
We used the Ampex. ; BTW, talking about Vangelis... both Antarctica and China showed different aspects of the experience compared to listening to the on the Voice of Lancelot... it's not like which is better... it was like experiencing different music, very different messages... This is the beauty of audio for me, the ability to approach music from multiple aspects, sides. I think this is life - life is ever changing, showing you uniqueness every time you approach it... The music of Vangelis is just exploding with life. Never depleting treasure-trove.... especially given the amazing diversity of his albums.

So since it was also mentioned by Torsten/Snake Oil Audio, it seems the D/A conversion with a tube stage can make 44.1 kHz CD Sound more natural (by replacing the cut off overtones above 20kHz with harmonic "Ghost"distortions) which would be an interesting match here. Did You have a chance to hear some tube staged D/A conversion? I am aiming for an external tube DAC for one of my CDM1 drives, preferably from Gerry of Musical Paradise.

Hello Jürgen, I have a tubed CD player, the Kavent, but sadly it's not operational at the moment so have not heard it with the CA-VP, but heard it with many different setups. It does have a lot of benefits, does not have many of the archetypal "digital sound" issues, yet, curiously, it is cold and analytical in sound, not warm at all. When I listened to it side by side with my modded Micromega, unseen, you would have thought that the Micromega is the one with the tube.... In general, yes, I think tube output stages are the ultimate answer for digital. And the good / bad news is that the output stage will be substantially impacted by the tube selection: the Kavent uses 6922 (6DJ8) and ECC83. The 6922/6DJ8 imparts a cold analytical sound, sounds almost like a transistor gear in tonality without the gritty issues of solid state, and without the HF instability of the solid state...

@@realworldaudio Yes, the more modern tube gear can sound harsh, I already found out that myself! I still love my old TDA TDA1541ies.. 😀The DAC I mentioned above from Gerry (MP-D2 MK3) gives the choice to choose the tubes for the outut stage between E88CC/6922/6DJ8 or 6H6/12AU7/12BH7, has tube rectification and the output coupling Capacitors are also swapable, as well as the DAC chip itself.

@@Iam-mad tda1541 definitely sounds very musical! I had for a while a old CD-94mk2. Now playing with a level 3 AN dac, perhaps even more enjoyable. They use transformer coupling. I think the more older approaches sound way better than modern dacs ^^.

@@nicktube3904 Yes, some love the Maratz 94 mkII, I have the twin brother Philips 960, they only differ in the capacitors used at the TDA chip. Recently I use the old DACs from this line seperately. Also the quality of the CDM-1 is superiour in smoothness of operation and durability!

This isn’t meant to be a snarky comment, but you can always set the playback speed to 1.25x up to 2x to speed up the video. I’ve done it for certain channels, and it’s still easy to absorb the information. 👍🔊😊🎶

Sorry I call that bs. 3 audiophile women 🤔. You could have told us everything but 3 audiophile women in one place, which is not the High End in Munich. We all know that’s not possible 😂. But great story nonetheless

Actually, you got that right... it's a seeming impossibility to have even one audiophile woman at a listening session, let alone 3 in one place. However, with further inspection, one of them lives here in Hawaii, one came from Hungary and the third lives in Germany! There's still hope for High End in Munich yet! 😁✨✨
