In this London Excel Meetup, Mike Thomas presented on the Cube Functions in Excel.
We hear a lot about the benefits of storing your list-based data in Excel's Data Model instead of in worksheet cells. Most of those benefits revolve around how much data you can store, how much space you can save, and how much easier it is to create Pivot Tables from multiple data sources.
However, another, not-so-well-documented benefit of storing your data in the Data Model is that by using special functions, known as CUBE Functions, you can retrieve data directly from the Data Model and store it in worksheet cells.

This was such an eye opener for me thank you Mike and Alan. I had a complete blind spot for cube functions thinking getpivot functions were there for this kind of ad hoc reporting but the skipping pivot table step plus still being able to connect to slicers make them really compelling i think.

thanks for the tutorial, much appreciated one thing,as also suggested by @darkora in the online chat: why did you not use the range operator "#" at 33:40 like CUBERANKEDMEMBER("ThisWorkbookDataModel",$L$1,N1#) to dynamically calculate the cube members? thanks in advance for your help
