This is a time-lapse showing the final assembly process for ORCASat: actually putting all the components and subsystems together to form the flight satellite. The assembly, integration, and testing phase of the project started in spring 2021 after completing the Critical Design Review with the Canadian Space Agency. Months of assembling and testing the subsystems and satellite components are not shown in this video, only the final 3 days of actually putting the satellite together. Huge thank-you to Tristan, who sacrificed many evenings and weekends to get everything ready for assembly. Tristan performed almost the entire assembly procedure himself, with Alex helping a little where he could. The assembly procedure is extremely sequential, almost nothing can be done in parallel and each component requires other components to complete testing. Enjoy the video and hopefully you can learn something about CubeSat assembly!

My favorite part about this sat is that it's literally a blinky light. It emits a known brightness of light near earth which astronomers on the ground can compare to distant objects and adjust for atmospheric interference. Love the tape measure antennas, too. That's fantastic.

Tape measures are actually really commonly used as antenna in smallsats. For some reason they’re perfect at doing exactly what they are needed for. One of the ones I’m working on utilizes this. When I first joined I thought it was a placeholder for the real antenna lol

Great work! Question about it being sequential: so if you forgot a screw in the beginning, you got alot of days to think about your lifes decisions? 😂🎉🎉

I guess it works, but its kinda funny that there is a rolled linear as an antenna

I wonder what that measuring tape was for. I suspect some sort of antenna.
