I am a bus driver. I had a kid I drove that was in the third grade, nicest kid you could ever meet but the doctors said he wouldn't make it to the sixth grade. I drove him every year till he graduated high school and then attended his funeral two years later. I still think about him to this day. RIP Logan you are missed.

For those who are unaware, this was based on a true story. The little boy lived in Mexico, and he was disabled. He had a friend maybe 2 years older than he. He did not have the fortune to attend a special school as they show here. But his friend would read, "jump" rope with him, color for him, always kept him company. Until he became very ill, and passed away in his humble home. The friend was heartbroken. Everyone in the neighborhood respected his friend so much! For they knew what a great friend he had been to his disabled friend 💔 He told Everyone he would become a teacher to special need students. I take it he kept his word. If you look for CUERDAS shorts, you will see the real kid and his friend.

As the father of a disabled 13-year-old son who suffers from the life-shortening disease MLD, it's incredible to see how the makers of the film have brought out the expression in the boy's eyes. There is so much non-verbal communication in it. I can 100% relate it to my son's eyes. Well done! And it's always nice to learn that in real life there are many people like Maria who treat disability the way it should be treated: as normalcy. Thank you for this beautiful film, even if it makes me cry every time I see it.

I think this is such a powerful short, explaining how people can have sympathy and compassion over those who have a disability. Our community needs a louder voice to vouch for individual accommodations, services, and rights to people who face these unfortunate circumstances in life. As someone with high-functioning Autism, my heart goes to to all of those who face these obstacles, and to their families standing by them in support.

This was from an interview with the director: Is there a strong personal inspiration which lies behind the movie? Without a doubt! This story was inspired by my daughter Alejandra and her behavior with her brother Nicolás. Nicolás is my youngest son. He suffers severe cerebral palsy due to a lack of oxygen when he was born. This situation stops him from doing the basic things of a child. He can’t eat by himself, can’t walk nor talk; he is just like the main character in ‘Cuerdas’. Despite this situation Alejandra has always played with him with affection and imagination and was his greatest stimulus even now that she is nineteen years old and Nicolás twelve. Reminds me of my younger brother 🥺 he has cerebral palsy and for the longest time it was just us two facing the world 🤍 we’re only 2 years apart so he was my only play buddy for a while, I got creative with our games and he taught me more as a child than many learn in a lifetime. He holds a special spot in my heart that is only for him and our memories. Now he’s almost 22 and I’m a nurse thanks to all of the kind nurses he had growing up who were also just as amazing to the little girl who just wanted to play with her brother and ask endless questions ❤️ looking back, he not only taught me what strength and resilience are, but how to enjoy the simplicity of life, and most importantly…how to have a tender heart towards others 🤍 I ask god to ease any pain or frustration he has, grant my mother the highest ranks of paradise for the loving care she gives him, and for all who get to know him to be touched by his priceless smile that lights up any room….ameen

He’s now 1.5 and although he’s unable to smile, sit or crawl my young daughter who is 5 does nothing but play with him and loves him to bits. My wife and I had tears 😭 in our eyes watching this. For my son Louie whatever the future may hold for you me and your mummy and big sister love you more than anything in the world and will be with you every step of the way . Love always Daddy 💙

The boy made me think of my little brother. He died when he was 7 years old. He had muscular dystrophy and could hardly move. Confined to a wheelchair at 3. He had so many friends and girlfriends. I could only imagine they were like the little girl in the story when they were at school. It's been 17 years since hes passed, and this video broke me down like it was yesterday. It was beautiful, and I appreciate the message of love and compassion it shows.

I don't know how losing someone to MD feels yet, but I know what it's like to know someone with MD. My dad has it and it's been difficult for me to see him deteriorate as he does. Today, I have a 2 year old son that my dad has never gotten to hold and he can't do any of the stuff that we used to enjoy. We try to make fun with him, but he's stuck to his wheelchair and is limited to board games and his computer. So, we try to play with him.

it breaks my heart that people have these conditions, as well as some people don’t accept them because they look and act differently. it’s also devastating that people have lost best friends, close family members/relatives, etc. to stuff like this. i’m so grateful for people like Maria who are nice and understanding to people like this little boy. i wouldn’t wish having a condition like this or losing someone to this on my worst enemy. rip Nicholas and the little boy and everyone else who has been taken by these conditions. fly high, friends. fly high. 🕊️

When I was about 4 years old in kindergarten, there was a boy a bit older, he had probably one of the most severe cases of autism i've ever witnessed in my life; it was the first time ever i had been faced with autism at all, i didn't even know the word for it; despite that I set any carin for difference aside and we found a way to understand each other, quickly he became a fixture in my attendin that place, he was a best friend, easily, we played, we run(carefully), he'd talk to me, in his own way, he knew i'd get. Fortunately this story ends a little more happily because he did get to grow up and he is a young man now, I don't know much more than that about him, but I hope he fondly remembers the time we had together; and that I managed to make some stuff a little bit easier for him. I don't think he will know it but he's one of the reasons why i work the job i work now, but this short movie reminded me of him. Come september I'll be entering a class as a certified support teacher for disabled kids for the very first time. Cuerdas was one of the movies we were shown by one of our professors regarding disability and one of many many ways to include disabled kids and always make them feel welcome, during our course's class; there wasn't a dry eye in the room. It reminded me of how i ve come to love several people close to me and my heart who live with a disability or a disturb or more than one, and how they definitely part of the many gazillion reasons why im who i am today and keep on bein better and better everyday more.

This was absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time😢❤️ My big sister has a disability and she's the most special person in my life. I wish more people and kids were just like Maria..this world needs more people like her❤️

So beautiful. If this is a true story , Im sure the boy was very happy and blessed to have a person similar to Maria in his life. There's still good and kind people out there in our world.❤

" To my daughter Alejandra : Thank you for inspiring this story To my son Nicolas : I wish you had never inspired this story." These lines were even more sad than the movie.

The thing I love about her is that she wanted him to be a part of the fun and treated him like a person and not treat him like furnishings or not there at all.. He should have every chance like ANY child... When she was helping him dance.. The look in his eyes.. That will forever touch AND haunt me.. As a disabled person myself.. All I want is to be loved and accepted... That is what that young boy wanted too.. That look as they were dancing kills me..

Your words mean so much to me - perhaps as much as the video itself. I'm old but I'm inspired to be more of a Maria! Sometimes, we just need to be shown the best way to be.. by a child.

I was the only kid in class treating a boy with brain tumor nice, during elementary years, I remember getting talked about, no one wanted to sit with him at lunch, one time on valentines day everyone got candy, but I got a big paper heart from him.Kindness does go around. I miss seeing him, but hadn't seen him in years.

I honestly thought it was going to end with adult Maria having a disabled child in her class, just like him. 😢 But still, this is so touching. 😭❤️ I'm in a wheelchair too, though I can move and speak fine, and I wish someone like Maria had spent time with me in school... we need more people like her. ;_;
