The row crop cultivator’s basic job is to cut or uproot the weeds between rows, and throw soil to cover up the in-row weeds that can’t be cut or uprooted. But, depending on plant, weed, soil and weather conditions, that job can get pretty tricky. In this video, hear from several PFI farmers on how they adjust their cultivators to get the job done.
They talk about which adjustments they make to throw more or less soil - including adjustments to the pitch of sweeps, top link adjustments, how close sweeps are to the rows, and differences in adjustments between cultivators. They also discuss how they deal with differing weathering conditions, using rolling or tent shields early in the year, using flow shields later in the year and how speed plays into all of it.

Thanks guys for showing and sharing. Very helpful. I learned alot! Ive been debating what to do under my circumstances. Ive got basically clay and wet now and compacted. Was gonna wait to dry, but will be crusted anyway. I wish i could break up clumps in between rows. Maybe if possible could install round shields w spikes in between row to help break clumps

I used to hate cultivating beans the first time years ago... cotton wasn't so bad because it was planted on firm beds... we planted beans flat and built the beds around the the beans.... our worst fields the rows were between 3/4 and 1 mile long...when beans were 2inches tall was when we started and we were 6 row 38 inch centers because that's was our cotton settings also

what about row cameras systems,I understand the cost may be beyond the means for smaller farms
