Traditional Taoists in Malaysia mark the official end of the mourning period of a loved one with a ceremony known as the Kong Teck. This is especially popular with Hokkien speaking Malaysian Chinese folk and can be extremely elaborate. Following three days of prayers lead by a Taoist priest, family and friends enjoy a sumptuous dinner and then burn the ‘Dragon House’, sending a new home heavenwards. Each evening and during the dinner, you can enjoy a traditional Hokkien opera, performed by experts in their craft. Check out the ‘Dragon House’ (Ling Chu in Hokkien) the opera and the tasty dishes we enjoyed as friends of the family on the final evening.
