Regardless, the episode speaks volumes to me. I've been wearing ankle socks in the work place for eons. Having just moved to Ireland, I was told by the very few people that have cared about this fact that retiring the ankle sock would be a smart decision, as the weather here is harsher than in my homeland. I have, despite this, packed my ankle socks and have now been inspired to wear them again. Perhaps after the Winter, when the positive outlook of Spring and milder climate hopefully brings me the courage to wear sneakers instead of boots - you can't show people how rebellious and unafraid you are if they can't see your ankles. I bought a pair of ankle socks from Penneys (Primark for all those who aren't from Ireland, we are on the internet afterall) in the summer of 2018 when the sun's rays beat down on the country like the spectre of colonial rule beats down on Irish culture in the form of lads rapping in English accents and people with double barrel last names. They were tight and restricted the bloodflow in my legs causing them to swell like the country swelled with the fervor of repealing the 8th amendment. I thought they were grand enough until I took them off that evening and my feet were swollen and twotoned like a drumstick lollipop. Never again will I buy a pair of those yokes I will always wear my nike flipflops I got in tk maxx from when I went to Ibiza with the lads. YUUUUUUUUUUP.

I dunno if this is a regional thing (hi from London, UK) but I always thought these were called trainer socks, and ankle socks is the 'normal' length ones (for ankle coverage). Or maybe it's a gendered thing? - we get a lot more variation in the women's section: tights, suspenders, knee-high, over-knee, sports (football/hockey specifically) ankle, trainer, etc. Anyway, thanks for the food for thought, great work as always Frankie!
