Hey y'all! In this video we go into the process of Direct To Garment printing, we want to inform our clients about the process and why we potentially offer this for you depending on the quantities and difficulty of the project!
We show a 7 color screen printed tee printed in plastisol alongside the DTG shirts that are printed for comparison. We meet with Eduardo to get his real time expression and openly talk about the time invested in DTG prints.
thank you as always! and hope this is an informative video.

The process when I did dtg was with a pretreat machine that always broke down, so I wasn't surprised when you had to use the black and decker power sprayer, the only difference was maybe a step where we had to knock down the fibers of the shirt in one direction so the dtg could print better. The whole process takes a while to do so by comparison if you include the process of screen printing. You have one guy doing artwork and separation (some people have direct to screen so we can skip the film ouput) one guy cleaning screens add dry time, maybe the same guy coating, the dry time then burning washing and taping and blocking out after more drying. Another guy sets up the design mixing inks, and if the there's enough shirts two people load and pull, finally one guy catches counts and packs up the shirts into boxes and ships it out. That's all done to speed up the manufacturing process and it might take two days if you add in screen cleaning and prep which you should. Here we saw one guy do the process he did to print three shirts, obviously this process is longer to print each shirt but when compared to the entire screen printing process this was faster because you are going straight from designer to print. If you used a Kornit DTG your process is even faster because they print on the pretreat wet and have a huge printheads printing with two platens, only the drying is slower. The bad part about the faster Kornit printers is the price, I think 280 k for one dtg , and the 300 dozen an hour was 1.8 mill after installation I think that was before inflation. The after comparison is really close, I'm impressed by the closeness and the white on the non overdyed shirt. This was a great video with great breakdown of the process, I hope you get a million views!

So we Broke down and now have our absolute Own DTG machine, We opted for the Epson F2100 because we ALSO do a lot of DTF (Direct to film) We will see how it goes, but really looking forward to this new path of opportunities.

Excellent informative video . Definitely , DTG printers are great for multiple colors in small amounts of production . I wish those machines were more affordable .

I believe the overall process and requirements are truthfully what keeps DTG at an overall higher expense. Because we are mostly a contract shop our clients want screen printing because of affordability

DTG works well with certain cotton garments but some will leave scorch marks due to prolonged heat treatment not to mention durability. SP is still by far the best, Hybrids and DTFs are your 2nd best.

@@user-mg5dl9jy1v I always feel there is a market for everything. We average about 400 shirts a day now with DTG. Definitely depends on client and final outcome expectations

@@KendraCultureApparelStudio Setting of expectations are always the key to every printing methodology. Pricing it appropriately is another. That keeps the client well informed while getting their money's worth. Best of luck.

thanks for sharing this one. I have to say the jury is still out for us on the DTG prints. Are you thinking of using it for fulfilment and running smaller quantities?

In the video I discuss that DTG is ideal for anything that's more colors than what we can screen print paired with quantities. Luckily we have the ability for sim process and have enough heads for spot color if it's something we truthfully want done in Screen Printing. It all comes down to quantity & expectations! We offer DTG for rush small full color jobs of at least 24 but less than 72

@@Novoworks we have worked with DTF as well! We actually make DTF Transfers with our DTG equipment! But again, mostly for very small orders, we like to make screen printed transfers, or HTV For simple two color projects

Should try Teflon sheets for curing, same finish, costs less long term.

I've used Teflon sheets before! I just don't like the moisture they don't permit to evaporate out. We even use parchment paper for HTV & protecting screen printing as well. Where the Teflon sheet makes it look rubbery :/

DTG has it's place... but man, so much time/work per shirt.... and pretty big investment to do right. Definitely more niche IMO
@KendraCultureApparelStudio

Absolutely! We just like to be able to offer all sorts of decoration options to our clients! We truthfully only offer this process for an order minimum of 24 shirts, with a maximum of 72 because really at that point we'd prefer to screen print!
